It's definitely less rowdy than the other Irish joints you'll find around the city. I came expecting a good on tap selection, and was not disappointed -- started with a couple Founders All Day IPAs. The barkeep was super friendly. It didn't take long for our Fish & Chips orders to arrive -- vinegar, lemon, newspaper and all -- at which point we added a few Guinness pints. O'Malley's used to be *the* place for Fish & Chips in Helsinki. Maybe they still are, but I remembered enjoying the dish more a few years back. Despite the plate changing, it was still tasty and the overall pleasant experience made for a good start to the evening. I recommend the place and I'll visit again.

Like most of its type it doesn't have a great range of beers but, being where it is, it's probably a bit more extensive than you'd find in UK ones, for example. We were in on a Saturday night (when it closes at 4am) and the place was heaving from Midnight onwards. The punters we spoke to were all good sorts so it's certainly worth a visit if you fancy making contact with some locals. Like the Tardis the initial perception of the place isn't the whole story. Go upstairs to the performance space/dancefloor and you're confronted with a hall at least twice as big as the downstairs bar. There was a metal/rock cover band on when we were in (with an oddly varied set-list) and I have the impression that generally that's what you can expect to experience most nights of the week. Put your coats in the cloakroom though as the bouncers can get very ratty if you don't (no idea if that means there's a high likelihood of pickpocketing or not).

My…read morefirst time at Molly Malone's, I was staying just around the corner which made this Irish pub a solid base of operations for my exploration of Helsinki. It is your basic Irish pub with few frills, but the cider is a nice break from your average Helsinki beverage. Prices are reasonable, and the bar is very clean which may contribute to a less authentic feel. My first time at Molly Malone's I recall that my bartender was really annoyed with some of the bar's Russian clientele. Ok, maybe a group of drunken Russian's singing songs of the motherland was like nails on a chalk board to an Irishman, but I had great time that afternoon and couldn't wish for anything better. Several years later, I found Molly Malone's to be the same safe haven I had experienced so long ago. The only difference this time is that I wasn't staying in Helsinki so my stay was unfortunately brief. Still a cold pint of Ireland's finest is always good when you can get it.

Saw a tiny restaurant with a couple of tables outside (mostly for smokers) and inside about the same. And a young man as a bar tender, later on a couple more guests. The first time, I wanted to read the newspapers for the day, so I wandered down stairs, bought my papers, and returned afterward, Got very nice service that left me thinking I could visit the place again. Last Saturday went again to hear the Karaoke competition, this time with company. The place was as crowded as a tiny place could be. Most people seemed to me like local residents, the athmosphere good and friendly and the competitors well trained. Clean and nice and friendly, suitable for people of different ages in a good and quiet neighbourhood. They even claim to serve some food (not I would have tried these first visits). I do recommend the place and will go myself again.

You can also opt for a smoothie or fresh juice which are made at the bar. Everything is a bit pricey but I guess that's to be expected at the airport. Service was very quick and friendly. The sitting area is nice and relaxed, and if you sit by the window you can watch the planes go by behind the light curtains. They also have power outlets under tables to charge your phone or laptop. Everything you need really!
