The shop itself is quite small in size but offers a fairly decent selection of t-shirts, shirts and jeans from popular brands such as Superdry and Fenchurch. Due to the size of the shop, it's one of those places where when you enter you do feel a bit self-conscious as the staff don't have much else to do but watch you when you enter, but they are friendly and helpful enough to ease this. The stock they had on sale there wasn't really to my tastes but if you don't fancy going into Liverpool or travelling to Southport for a t-shirt or pair of jeans then it might be worth checking Ryat out. Its stock isn't anything new or original, but it's a solid enough effort if you're not too fussy.

This was not an unwelcome change for me and many of the clothes they stock here are exactly the sort of thing I would (and do) choose to wear. There are occasional missteps (an obsession with gilets a couple of ago, the recent obsession with t-shirts with flappy bits hanging off the neck) but by and large decent clothes available with not too much effort. The problem for me is both the cost, which has increased significantly recently (the 2 t-shirts for a £10 has gone up to £12, you will struggle to get a pair of shorts for under £25) and the quality, which is on some items frankly appalling (a pair of carrot-fit trousers ripped along the thigh only a couple of weeks after I bought them). This particular branch also leaves much to be desired. Where the Topshop upstairs is given light and breathing space, the Topman is relegated to the basement and is cramped with low ceilings and racks all pushed together. There also seems to be some sort of obsession with varying the levels down here, with so many platforms and needless sets of three or four steps that it all just becomes a bit confusing. The staff are very friendly, it must be said, which I can only commend them for - I would find it difficult to be so cheery if I was made to work down here.

By observation, you can certainly tell that Topshop is big on fashion because every department has the latest in seasonal wear such as a stunning collection of dresses, shoes and denim. Moreover, their prices are more reasonable than other high street fashion stores that sell similar clothes. Prices may still be moderate but at the least, they are of good quality and if you like items which are popular, there is definitely no shortage of them here. There is a real atmosphere about this place too, as it usually buzzes with people most of the time and it is a common port of call for younger shoppers hence a 10% student discount on all items. Well worth a good browse and plenty of choice.

Now, I'm at a loss trying to figure this store out - I don't see Manchester being overly populated with waifish hipster hobbits when I walk down the sidewalks, but apparently they all sneak in from the Shire and shop here, because the store is stocked as such. Although even if there were clothes my size, I'd look completely ridiculous walking around in purple skinny chinos and a deep cowl neck t-shirt, so maybe it's not that big of a deal. No, I walk on into Topman simply to hold my phone up to a speaker, press Soundhound on, and find out what's playing for a song or two, and then leave. Why? Well, I'm old. And lazy. And it's much quicker for me to find some of the new sounds in the UK this way than me trying to search it all out on the radio, which 1) I never have the time or access to listen to traditional radio 2) I don't see myself wandering aimlessly around the interwebs to trying to repeat the same feat. and 3) I'd ideally go hit all the local clubs to hear the real new music, but I'm a bit hampered in achieving that feat due to the points I made at the beginning of this paragraph. So Topman for a brief update on music it is. Is the music they play diverse? No, not at all. They've got a set young tragically hip demographic they're aiming for and their playlist is focused in kind - and some of the tracks they choose have been admittedly crap, but usually I'll walk into the store simply because there's a song that's caught my ear. I'm not even stealthy holding my phone up to the speaker, either. Which doesn't matter, as the kids working there pay me no attention. "Old man in suit standing over there, holding his phone up to the ceiling? Strange, but whatever." So kudos to them. And on the rare occasion that I actually do find something worthy of buying that can actually fit me, the shop will still take swipe cards, which is great as apparently our Yankee plastic has become totally outdated compared to the rest of the world. So in the end, 3 stars for Topman - skinny purple chinos for skinny waifish hobbits and all.

I picked up t shirts and jeans for next to nothing, and all good quality. The rate i go through clothes, i dont really want to spend much on them because they're soon being chucked away. This store seems to have a little more than what is available on the high street elsewhere, probably a good earner for arcadia so they keep it well stocked and turned over.

It is a worldwide brand, and for most needs, no introduction, the prices around the store did seem to be decent with a large number of products on offer, with my visit coming during the "Black Friday" deals week they were doing in-store. The store did seem a little small and cramped so that did slightly ruin the overall shopping experience for me, this also was a little surprising as other GAP stores I have seen or visited have been much larger. The men's clothing range in store also was a bit of a let-down, with the store having more of a focus towards the female or baby/child market. The overall feel of the store was OK - it wasn't the nicest or most modern of stores I've visited, with the new store in the Manchester Arndale just having a nicer, brighter and more modern feel to it - once again that is a shame. Due to being slightly disappointed with the size and feel of the store and the smaller than average man clothing range I can't rate this place too highly, but all in all the prices are decent combined with the check-in offer on Yelp to save 15% so this place isn't completely dreadful and does deserve a two-star rating.

The brand's sales must have taken off recently, what with the nautical trend being plugged by every billboard and colour supplement and this branch is certainly doing its best to market itself as a den of needful things for the Liverpool-based fashionista. The mannequins and tables are piled with horizontal navy stripes, distressed granddad-neck shirts and rolled up chinos. It's all quality stuff (my Gap jeans have lasted me four years, in various states of looseness and tightness) and the fit is usually comfortable and flattering. Of course it is all a bit pedestrian looking - just how many autumnal coloured jumpers and stripy rugby shirts can you really need - and not all that cheap (unless you manage to get a decent bargain off the sale rail as you walk into the store). but still, it's consistent at least - the stuff may even last until the nautical trend comes in again in a few years time.

In this Arndale Centre floor, it is located on the bottom of 3 floors, of course specializing in male clothing. Topman has even gone to be a big brand in its' own right, despite just being the "younger sibling" of Topshop, who follows it wherever it goes, being in most of its' stores even across Saudi Arabia, Ukraine, Qatar, Brazil and France. This store seemed to stock a large range of clothes, but some of them just looked like junk, and something you wouldn't even find in F and F at Tesco, one item of clothing looked like a cross between an Anorak and a parcel box, you would get from Amazon. Totally Unappealing! The staff seemed okay, they didn't stand out. It is a decent size, located in a larger Topshop, store and it does look pretty modern from the outside with a cool size, and looks okay on the inside, definitely nicer than Sports Direct and more premium than that, but not a high end department store like Selfridge or John Lewis. This store isn't great, they seem to try and make anything look fashionable and luckily, they didn't manage to fool me. This store isn't terrible, but it isn't great either and sadly I feel it does not warrant anything over two stars.

I saw a very cute lesbian couple shopping in there but I've known straight friends to do so also. For comfy logo tees, fabulous hats and cool sunglasses, it doesn't matter if you're male or female, it's all good. Topman seems to be riding on being in Noel Fielding's good books as it's all about bright colours, flamboyancy and being slightly metrosexual, but there's nothing wrong with that, is there? And the cheap jeans, basic tees and shirts come rated highly amongst my male friends. The shoes might be a little bright and beautiful for your average office Joe but you never know what he gets up to on Friday nights. And compared with its female counterpart, the prices are actually really reasonable. I personally prefer this branch to the standalone one next to my beloved Swedish Clas, as ironically this one has a slightly larger range. Girl or boy, Topman is top, man. See what I did there? No wonder I avoided the shop for so long, only really taking my first steps in there last week. Now, though, I wish I'd been less squeamish - this shop has a range of good quality and low priced menswear. I picked out three, count them, pairs of shorts for an upcoming holiday as well as a good plain check shirt (no epaulettes, no different coloured plaid on the back - Burton and River Island take note) and it cost less than £35 - fantastic stuff. Some of the clothing is a little on the loud side (I can't see that I would ever pull off a t-shirt that has diamantes on it), some is a little staid (enough with the faux-national park sweatshirts with 'Colorado Moose Lodge' or similar on them) and some is just plain wrong (I won't describe their frankly deplorable selection of vests) but there is more good stuff than there is bad in here.

Three storeys of Topshop. Wow…read more In reality, the store is probably a similar square footage to its Manchester sister, but squeezed in the middle. While the other half sought out a new jacket, I decided that there was no harm in taking a look at the sale items. Three escalator rides up, I finally found the eye catching sale signs. You can't really fault the amount and diversity of stock here - there's plenty to look at, from shoes and 'night out' outfits to their extensive make-up and jewellery range. It all just depends on your taste as to whether you'll find something. As it was mainly summer stock marked down, there were far too many crop tops and neon colours for my personal taste, but I can see why people keep flooding back. Whether one likes it or not, they do have their finger of the pulse of "what's on trend" (or, at least, what we're told is on trend) and stock seems to constantly change. Not one of my chosen shops, but a good set up in the city centre.
