He could be difficult in class, but the instructors Ms Hannah, Mr Hunter, Mr Mark never gave up on him. Their patience and encouragement have meant so much to our family. While we were facing months-long wait for occupational therapy, I felt helpless. This academy gave him a supportive place to practice focus, build confidence, and learn leadership and proper manners. In just three months, without any therapy we've seen a change/ transformation that once felt out of reach. My four year old wakes up on his own, makes his bed, gets dressed, and puts on his shoes by himself. His first time breaking a board was a huge "wow" moment. Then he broke a real wooden board, and his face lit up like Christmas. You could see the confidence it gave him. He'd also had frightening experiences with older kids pushing him on playgrounds, and he became afraid of them crying just at the sight of them. At the academy, the older students help and encourage the younger ones, which has helped him feel safer around them. He genuinely enjoys going to class. There are many martial arts academies out there, but this one feels like home. They provide such a valuable service to our community, and I love how this academy has helped our whole family grow. Here, kids can complete their homework, enjoy an awesome playground as well as other games and entertainment for a great monthly fee. At 5:30, MMA lessons begin. Students are offered complete martial arts training and self defense. Michael went that night to the other school and when on the mat said he wanted to spar with Pol,the 13 year old Bruce Lee look alike that night. I was watching and holding my breath,but when the fight began my son chocked out the older Black Belt in less then i minute of the 1st round. Sensei Wright was right to make my son do this 6 months after this kid almost caused him to lose the sparring part of the Black Belt test. They have taught great skills to both of my kids and I see a sense of self pride in them wherever they go. My son has actually used the "warning" method they teach when someone attempts to bully. He has given potential bullies warnings and then not just takes the bully down, but has the intelligence and respect for his opponent to submit only as much as necessary to keep himself safe. Thankfully he doesn't have to defend himself too often, but I know that he is proud of his skills and uses them appropriately. My daughter has attended for two years and kicks some butt!
