Even without the familial connection, I'd be absolutely in love with this place. Family and friends gathered this past weekend for a memorial hike in honor of my dad, who passed in 2007. Leon and Nellie went out of their way to accommodate us, down to even offering additional rooms when some extra guests appeared and getting up extra early to make us to-go egg sandwiches we could take long on our hike up Mt. Washington. Both our group and the other guests at the Inn were treated like treasured friends in their home and it felt like a big old family reunion for us all. The Spruce Moose is the perfect location---a short walk to the adorable North Conway village, and a quick drive to countless hiking options. The decor makes you feel like you're visiting friends in a luxurious mountain home. Zeb and Avery, the two trusty labs, greet you at the door and will cuddle you on the couch for hours if you let them. The beds are comfy, and the rooms contain no tvs so you can truly enjoy the nature around you (though there IS wi-fi if you need your technology fix). Breakfast in the morning is delicious and filling. Tea and coffee are available at any time. It was an amazing weekend, in no small part to Leon and Nellie. I will be back to the Spruce Moose the next time I come to North Conway!

Avery and Jed are the most welcoming doggies, I was only with them for one night and I miss them terribly. The breakfast was excellent, coffee and tea are available all the time. My room was beautiful, the shower had great water pressure, and the lodge itself is super warm and cozy. I honestly felt like I was visiting relatives I just hadn't met yet.

When we parked at the section we were assigned, my friend was told there's a X car limit per party. Somehow, we managed to get parking, but it wasn't in front of our complex since there were several vehicles scattered in the lot. Inside the room, were 2 single beds and 1 that can be shared. The bathtub was so small that one of my legs had to be on the outside if I wanted to sit down. There is a kitchen available if you choose to make your own meals. There's also Wi-Fi (password in a binder). The quiet time isn't enforced at all, our neighbors could be heard partying the night away. At the main office of the resort, there's a pool and sauna. There's also a gym, but not much to work with unless you enjoy cardio. My only complaint is the lack of restaurants nearby, but other than that, I'd definitely come back.

Unfortunately, for the resort itself, it's run down and their decking and stirs need a severe overhaul. We have stayed at this particular resort, a handful of times, and every time the decking has always had spider webs and dead bugs everywhere, which is unfortunate because you want to sit out there and watch the foliage and/or snow covered trees, because it's such a beautiful and peaceful area. The front desk is located where the pool and arcade is. It's not a very welcoming area as a "Front Desk/Foyer" should be. The stairs leading up to that area have paint chipping and wood in desperate need of repair. Upon looking, they look extremely unsafe, but are not. The arcade needs updating. Most games were vintage and out of order. The hot tub area was a complete mess! The hot tub itself was clean and enjoyable. The walls of the hot tub area looked moldy with paint shipping. White walls had spots of black and the vent in the wall leading outside needs a definite cleaning. In general, that whole area looks unsanitary. Overall, the resort did the job of what was needed, but the aesthetics and overall look of the place could definitely use a refresher. I feel badly for the families that own these units, they are not represented properly.

We have stayed here three times. The first time was great! It was about nine years ago, but things have steadily declined since then. The second time the house was in decent shape, but things were starting to slip. This last time we were really disappointed. When we arrived doors were missing off cabinets, handles off dressers, my husband actually went and bought a screw driver to fix this stuff (why not just take care of it before new guests arrive?). The game room was a mess, dangerously so. In fact, one of the side tables in there broke when my daughter leaned on it and she got a pretty bad cut on her chin. The pool table was warped, the triangle broken, and there was only one pool stick. The air hockey table was duct taped and ready to fall over, and the foosball table was a mess too. We emailed him about these things and he showed up asking for the security deposit and quickly back peddled when my husband again mentioned this stuff. I mean shower bars were ripped off, a few holes in the wall. We documented it all so we wouldn't get blamed. He never tried that. I don't want to mislead you, but he never offered anything in the way of an apology or discount. He simply said, "I don't police the place." Which was funny since he wanted money to make sure nothing went wrong... When we left we forgot a nutribullet there and after talking to him and him telling us his guy had it and they would mail it to us, he never did. I offered to pay the shipping. I reached out again via phone and email to see if maybe he had forgotten, but he just ignored me. It's unfortunate this all happened, because like I said, functionally he had a good thing going. It's too bad it feel apart the way it did. I won't stay here again.

The two stars is based on the property location. While this may be a great ski getaway for couples…read moreor singles, it is not a place for young kids or those looking for comfort: The spacing between balusters is large enough that a toddler could easily crawl between them. We had to move a couch to prevent this. the mattress in one of the upstairs bathrooms has to be 30+ years old and all springs. We moved the mattress from the 3rd floor loft down for the days we rented. The spiral staircase is easily navigated and cause some minor injuries because it is narrow and carpeted (making it slippery) The TV did not work. We were told the settings must be wrong as it worked the week prior. Both guys present were tech saavy, it was the bulbs, not the settings. Thank goodness for laptops and netflix for the kiddos Neither bathroom is on the main floor requiring a trip upstairs or downstairs. The upstairs bathroom shower is so small that even as a 5'5" female (size 4/6) had difficulty showering and the downstairs bathroom had tons of ants. While no big deal, a mouse scurried across the wood burning stove mantel. When we checked out the grill outside, there was so much caked on charred remains (with no grill brush) and the ashtray was stored inside (Yuck for where my food is grilled). Oh, and we were informed by the owner the day before that the washer/dryer were on the fritz (however, since we were only there for 4 nights, we wouldn't need them - umm we swim, we hike, we run - a washer-dryer is always a nicety). While I will never stay here again, with some upgrades (mattresses, fixed tiles, pest control), it would be a good place for families with older children - NOT good for families with toddlers or infants. It is a hazard. **UPDATE: After speaking with the owner, who responded promptly to our complaints of the property, she assured us that the mattresses were being replaced and the television/pest issues resolved..** If these issues are addressed, it would be a decent place to stay for adults and families with older children (ages 4+). it is close to NC center, Echo Lake, and other attractions.

There is plenty of sleeping room, a great wood stove in the living area and an open layout perfect for a get-a-way. It's a short walk from echo lake and a short drive to Diana's Baths.
