The project cost $15,000. The fence runs around our 3/4 acre, encompassing much of the property. PLAN Maria created a beautiful plan based on information provided online for our property (as well as on her private portal). This enabled us to get the project off the ground before I even purchased the house. We scheduled the first install date one day after my house closing. THE INSTALL The installation is done in three stages. I hired a surveyor to mark the property lines. Northland fence ordered the public utilities to be marked out, and I chose to hire Zone One to mark my irrigation and septic (which turned out to be very useful). Next, a full day was spent installing the posts (the day after I purchased the house). Aaron was the leader of a crew of two, and he and I reviewed the placement of the posts in relation to the original plan. We tweaked the plan, and Aaron was helpful, respectful and very patient as I revised things on the ground during the day. Thank you for that! We were able to respect our neighbor's privacy and increase the gate size to accommodate my UTV for snow-ploughing in winter. FINAL INSTALL The final installation was scheduled for 30 days after the post install, but Northland Fence were able to accommodate us early and install a week after. That was an incredible surprise, and our dogs were delighted! A crew of three arrived: Jesse, Chuck and Bobby, and the guys worked from around 9:00am to 5:00pm to install our huge fence. They began without disturbing me, as I was working. When I came out, they updated me that the fence will be completed in a day. They were quiet and respectful of the neighbors, parking on the side of the property. They did a walk around the fence several times during install to ensure that everything was done right, with a final walk-through the next morning when they came to finish off one small part. This gave me time to do a walk-through also. I didn't find anything wrong. The fence was perfect. DESIGN I'll add that I chose a two tone design, at no extra cost. It turned out gorgeous! WARRANTY 10 year warranty from Northland Fence, and they recommend that we contact them with any questions or problems before we check with our home owner's insurance, should any problem arise. Just be sure to read and understand the contract before signing. We didn't, and that's on us. The contract stated 2 to 4 week completion for our fence. In our case, Northland came out on Dec 10th and removed our old fencing, set some of the new posts, then left by noon. They returned on Dec 26th to finish the remaining posts. They returned on Jan 6th and installed the fence. All of the crews were polite and respectful. Our project was completed 3 weeks and 6 days after they began. Our problem was that our dog couldn't use the yard and the deer - the reason that we needed the fence - invaded and ate our new $$$ landscaping. There's a reason that a competitor advertises that they use the same crew for the entire process, and get it done in a day or two. If we could go back, we'd have made a different choice.

Also, the neighbor who is paying for the work asked for a different color of fence and they ignored his request. WTF, are you kidding me? Also, they are installed a fence practically touching another fence that is already on a property line. who does that. How is that neighbor going to take care of his fence on both sides? They also installed in fence part way into the alley, literally driving the support poles into the alley asphalt. Again, who does that? They should be at least a few inches into the property with those support poles. It's just a bunch of 20 year olds doing the work, who don't give a shit about the quality of their work. All of this just screams shady business.

We only needed the tree taken down and chose not to pay for debris removal, and they were great about placing the debris exactly where we asked so we could handle it ourselves after it is seasoned. If it had been $20,000, well we'd not be getting a fence. When Carl came out to measure he did a great job and gave us the final quote right away. He showed us many options and helped us with our choices. He also wrote in the quote to expedite the work once the post holes were dug because their team would be pulling up our existing fence and we have dogs. He didn't want us to be without a complete fence for too long. We greatly appreciated his thoughtfulness about the dogs. We paid our down payment but then needed to make a change. We called the office and they said that they would adjust the quote and get back to us. I wondered if the communication would actually happen between the office and the sales folks because we've had some bad experiences. They did a great job communicating and we received a revised quote quickly. As soon as weather would allow, their team came out and tried to dig the post holes...no go as the ground was still frozen about 6 inches under. The crew came back again to check and it was a go! The owner, Rob lied to my wife saying that I told him we didn't get along with both of our neighbors and we didn't want the fence touching the shared property line. Crazy?!? Yes, I think so. Phone calls and emails to the owner, he demanded we pay him $200 for him to finish the job. Finally, I confronted Rob about the single bad review he received. He directed me to call the Better Business Bureau and look at Angie's List. I found out he has been rated as an "A" on Angie's List. The BBB website also gave him an "A". He also explained the situation to my satisfaction. When asked about his experience, licensing, and insurance, Rob was quick to offer facts, not conjecture or anecdotes. I plan to update this posting upon completion of the project. UPDATE April 5, 2012: The dog run is finished and it works and looks fantastic! The project was finished early and exactly on budget. We are extremely pleased with the result and plan to ask Rob to handle all of our future fencing needs.
