I thought Dan was very good in telling us what needed to be done with our fence situation. Cost was very good. Top line was my second choice

They chopped down very mature lilac bushes and put a vinyl fence right on top of the live stumps of these bushes. The bushes will just grow back and push up against the fence on both sides. It will look terrible in a couple years. They should have advised my neighbor to remove the bushes in the path of the fence before installing the fence. Also, the neighbor who is paying for the work asked for a different color of fence and they ignored his request. WTF, are you kidding me? Also, they are installed a fence practically touching another fence that is already on a property line. who does that. How is that neighbor going to take care of his fence on both sides? They also installed in fence part way into the alley, literally driving the support poles into the alley asphalt. Again, who does that? They should be at least a few inches into the property with those support poles. It's just a bunch of 20 year olds doing the work, who don't give a shit about the quality of their work. All of this just screams shady business.

There are, however several things that have ruined this experience. Due to the pandemic and supply chain issues, our install was pushed out from October 2022 to Spring 2023. It was understandable. The biggest issue was communication. We would hear nothing for weeks on end and we would reach out to our sales representative. He would check and give tell us that we would be contacted in a day or two and then we would hear nothing. That has been a theme throughout the entire process. After several "false starts" of, "Install will contact you", the install finally happened on Thursday, June 15th. The installers were nice and polite. The lead was friendly and listened to us. Some of the techniques used were surprising and somewhat concerning. Normally when you set posts, you are constantly measuring, to make sure they are all in alignment and that their heights are uniform. That didn't happen. They set the posts in wet cement and then adjust the height by pounding down on the top of the post with a sledge hammer as someone eyeballs the height. No measurements taken to insure they match up with the others. I was intrigued by this, but figured they knew what they were doing. At one point I even pointed out that one post was way higher than the next one and that my wife would not be happy, so they went and pounded it down. Distances between posts aren't accurate. They are to be 8 ft panels, but the distance between posts vary. I'm also used to having post concrete being below ground, but in several places, the concrete is exposed at ground level. During the installation, we informed the installers that they had the wrong gates. 2 gates were supposed to have arched tops. They took pictures, called their supervisor, and told us they would temporarily install the wrong gates and then would be out with the correct ones. We then got word from the company that the ones we ordered last year are not being manufactured this year, so we need to keep these and we got a small price reduction for the issue. 2 days later we found the fence falling apart. 1 top rail totally pulled away from the post and took the panels with it. I also had to adjust several of the gates, because you had to push the gate up, otherwise the latch wouldn't catch. We contacted the company & let them know of the issue. They said they would pass the info on. In hindsight, we made the mistake of paying the remainder of the monies due before having the issues rectified. We heard nothing. After several more calls/e-mails, we were notified that they were ordering new parts. Again, horrible communication. During this time, we were able to wash the fence & found several gauges, scratches, and places they left splattered concrete harden on the fence. :( We have referenced these in continued contacts, since IT IS 2 MONTHS LATER & THEY HAVE YET TO COME BACK TO FIX ANYTHING! One of the features of a vinyl fence is the ability to take the post caps off and put on post lights. We asked how to take the caps off. They said the caps were only epoxied in 1 small spot and wedging a butter knife under the cap will release it. When I went to do that, it turns out they are very well epoxied in more than one spot, rather it epoxied on every side of the cap. When I followed his instructions, it actually ripped off a chunk of the colored vinyl, exposing the uncolored core of the post. When they come out to fix the panel, we will ask "the pros" to remove the caps without ruining the post. So now it is 2 months since install and reporting of issues and it still isn't done. We are trying to work on the other landscaping projects around the fence, but the fence itself is incomplete. I have reached out to the company occassionally asking for updates and get the "it should be here this week" response or no response at all. They haven't commented on the gouges or scratches. EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING.

The owner, Nick, was incredibly responsive to our bid request. He did his due diligence talking through everything with us when he came over which we appreciated. We had a few questions after receiving his quote and he called me back within minutes of my email being sent to talk live, which if you've ever had work done at your home, I feel like getting a timely response is RARE. The installation itself was a lot quicker than I expected - the team had removed our previous fence and installed the new one in just one day! During installation, they asked us questions and our preference and explained pros and cons of each. So glad we went with KNO for our project and it makes sense on why they only have 5 star reviews - they are truly the best!

Wouldn't provide an install date to start but wanted half of the money upfront without telling us at least which week they would be out. After 2 weeks, I had to call several times then tell them we are going to go with another company if they couldn't tell us a ball park date they will be out. 3.5 weeks later it was finally installed. We bought the fence since we have a dog and wanted to keep her in the yard, yet they left two huge gaps in the fence where easily a human could walk out without a problem. We called, they never did do a follow call to see how we like the fence, just a call asking how we would like to make the other half of the payment. I told the owner the job wasn't complete and we weren't paying him the other half until the job was 100% complete. He said they will send someone out to finish it.... 2-3 weeks go by, nothing, no communication, yet he charged our credit card without authorization. The owner, Rob lied to my wife saying that I told him we didn't get along with both of our neighbors and we didn't want the fence touching the shared property line. Crazy?!? Yes, I think so. Phone calls and emails to the owner, he demanded we pay him $200 for him to finish the job. We went to the better business bureau, filed a complaint, a week goes by and the owner declines to finish the job. Needless to say, stay away from Top Notch Fence! I should have went with the smaller company where they take pride in their work and want to satisfy.

First, Rob gave me the best price among other contractors that quoted the job. He offered innovative solutions and common-sense suggestions that really enhanced the design of the project. Second, Rob worked tirelessly to get me the best materials for the job at the best possible price. Third, Rob was easily to communicate with, and answered his phone or quickly returned my call. Finally, I confronted Rob about the single bad review he received. He directed me to call the Better Business Bureau and look at Angie's List. I found out he has been rated as an "A" on Angie's List. The BBB website also gave him an "A". He also explained the situation to my satisfaction. When asked about his experience, licensing, and insurance, Rob was quick to offer facts, not conjecture or anecdotes. I plan to update this posting upon completion of the project. UPDATE April 5, 2012: The dog run is finished and it works and looks fantastic! The project was finished early and exactly on budget. We are extremely pleased with the result and plan to ask Rob to handle all of our future fencing needs.
