I remember the first time looking at all of these reviews, wondering if this guy can really be THAT good. Our fence was installed a few weeks ago and the answer is - he's even better - 5 stars doesn't even do him justice. So where to begin... Nick's craftsmanship is top notch. The fence he and his team built for us really is a thing of beauty. He takes pride in doing quality work and man, it shows. He has infectious energy and positivity, and his crew is equally awesome (my dog adored all of them and he's not even a people-dog). His bid was beyond fair - well below the other I had gotten from a bigger company. The work was done quickly and when he said it would be done. But it was really a ton of other things that have made me totally loyal to Nick for any woodworking we'll have done in the future and made me want to get on here and give such a glowing review... Nick totally collaborated with us on the design, eliciting our input and approval all along the way. I have a ridiculously particular aesthetic, but it never phased him. He brought us along the whole way, even having us check out one completed panel before continuing and giving us the chance to make changes. Without me even asking, he was thorough and meticulous about making sure the fence didn't have any areas where our dog could get out, which wasn't an easy task given our uneven yard and hooking up to our neighbor's chain link. And when I had a freak-out after the fence was installed that I had decided on a height that was too high, he was unbelievably kind and patient and made it clear he would do whatever it takes to ensure our satisfaction with the fence -- even coming out and cutting it down a few inches. (Turns out, the height is perfect and no change was needed -- I just had to get used to having a fence -- but it was so nice knowing I could make the change if I wanted). Beyond all of that, Nick is just really good people. He's got such a good spirit, and is really a gem of a business. read more

I did the one thing they always tell you not to do. I hired the first and only person to give us a quote on a fence. Why would I do something so reckless on something so important? Well have you seen the quality of their workmanship? My husband and I did a lot of looking around at fencing companies, and I have to say the portfolio of work that Nick and his crew have amassed is stunning. Not to mention the recommendations across various platforms (Nextdoor, Yelp, Facebook) are all beyond stellar. So we did it. We did the one thing everyone everywhere will caution you against. We went with our gut. I am so glad that we did! Not only is Nick a pleasure to work with (receptive to our ideas, concerns, questions), his crew is professional and friendly. It honestly felt like I had a bunch of my friends over putting in a fence because this crew seemed to really enjoy what they were doing. That to me is something special. I will not say that there were no hiccups, but the fault for those lie on me. I forgot to tell them that our outside tap handle was broken, so I am sure that the soaking that happened will be a story told for years to come. Sorry about that...my bad? There is something to be said about how a crew handles themselves when the unexpected happens. To be able to laugh about it after the fact is a testament to the camaraderie and joy that emanates from this team. They worked fast and they worked well. The lines are super crisp. My dogs love their newly expanded perimeter. The garden pops. We're SO fortunate to have found Nick! He's absolutely phenomenal! When we were looking for somebody to fence our backyard, we didn't have anything spectacular in mind. But, after meeting with Nick, we realized that affordable AND special could actually be possible. We immediately knew we wanted him to do the job because he is incredibly knowledgeable, professional, affordable, and accommodating. Not to mention he has a fantastic personality! There's nothing worse than having to work with someone unpleasant :( , but Nick is a guy you look forward to talking with every day :) Throughout the project, he made sure everything he did was exactly what we liked. And, we GREATLY appreciated his ideas because he helped us figure out what our dream fence was. He's not just your average carpenter. He has a true talent that makes him unique. What a pleasure to work with Nick and his protege Max! Nick came out to bid the job and thoroughly explained all the details of the job and gave me a very affordable bid for all the work. They called and asked if I'd be okay with them coming out to work on July 4th and I said, "Heck yeah!" Unfortunately, we were rained out, but Max and his assistant were back the next morning at 7AM and immediately began working. The two young men worked consistently on both days, were extremely friendly to all the neighbors and most importantly, listened to any concerns I raised. When unexpected conditions arose needing a solution, they worked with me to determine an affordable solution. It can be rare to feel heard in this world, but both Nick and Max went out of their way to make sure I was satisfied and all my questions were answered. What's more the final cost was within $100 of the original bid, which was amazing given how much additional time, effort and materials they invested beyond the original specs of the project. Original project: remove and replace 5 fence posts, some deck boards and develop a way to securely fasten handrails off of deck onto a patio of pavers (needed to cut away failed handrails, lift bricks, pour concrete, replace rotted posts, refit pavers and reattach handrails). I wish I could hire Nick & Max for all the other projects around my 112 year old house! Great experience; hire these guys! read more

Nick worked with us every step of the way in deciding which privacy fence would be best for our situation. He was creative in his solution to issues, receptive to our ideas and concerns, and wholly committed to our happiness with the custom-built privacy fence he and his team created. How many big, commercial fence companies could you contact with a new idea half-way through a build and have them say, "I'm in!"? His team worked quickly and efficiently, and after two days, we have a great-looking fence that's straight as an arrow and solid as a rock. It's completely transformed our yard. At the end, Nick walked us around the finished product, pointing out how things were done, suggesting methods of maintenance, and pointing out what might be an issue down the line. Through it all, he asked us to not hesitate to contact him if anything needed addressing. He even offered to lend us his truck should we need it. KNO Woodworks installed a custom hogwire deck railing for us and did an amazing job! The railing is EXACTLY what we wanted. Nick took great care to ensure that we were happy. We originally contacted him via email to set up an appointment for him to come see the deck. When he came over to measure, we described to him what we wanted and later sent him photos from Pinterest. Then he used an architect's software to sketch out what he thought he could do within our budget and sent it to us via email. He also brought over a hogwire panel as an example to make absolutely sure that we were on the same page. All of this for a relatively small job!!! I especially appreciated that he was able to do most communication with us via email. That is hard to find in a contractor! Scheduling was a breeze, even on short notice, and he was able to complete the job in just one day. He also came over the next day to make sure we were happy with it and sand over a couple of parts that weren't absolutely perfect. The result is a stunning, unique design that is surely the envy of all of our neighbors! The best part about our experience is that Nick is simply a very kind, friendly and funny person who is an absolute pleasure to interact with. Just throwing my hat into the ring of overwhelmingly positive reviews for Nick and his crew at KNO! Nick was great to work with throughout the process. He was up front about our options and prices, and is extremely knowledgeable about all things fences. He's passionate about what he does, and it shows in the finished product. Even though he wasn't directly on the crew that put up our fence, his "fencing" skill and pride/passion for the work is evident in the guys who were, and Nick was on site both prior to job start and after its completion to make sure that everything met his high standards. As for the crew itself, Max led a three-man team that included Anthony and Mason, all of whom were awesome to work with. They managed to get the fence up in nearly half the estimated time, the craftsmanship was excellent, and some of the creative touches used on the gates impressed even Nick himself during the post-work inspection (which did, in fact, also include the posts). If you like fence puns, are on board with a day or two of fun and friendly (and professional!) music-fueled super fencers in your yard, and care even half as much as Nick and his crew will about what your finished fence will look like, then you need to go with KNO. Nick just completed a beautiful fence and archway for our new home! We purchased a corner lot house in South Minneapolis this winter/spring. We had Nick out during our inspection because we knew we wanted the fence up ASAP since we had two little dogs. Nick was full of energy and offered great suggestions on the style of fence to complete. As soon as we closed on our house, Nick was available to complete the project we had talked about 2 months prior. He communicated ever step along the way (style, payment, material delivery, etc.) I was most impressed with Nick's commitment to making sure we were 100% happy with the new fence. We have two little dogs who have never had a yard before (rescue dogs). We had no idea what to expect! We just had a backyard fence installed by KNO Woodworks, and it is AMAZING. From start to finish, the whole process felt very personalized and they really listened to what we wanted, rather than just giving us a bunch of cookie-cutter options from a brochure. The result is a lovely fencing system that is both beautiful and functional. Nick was there and followed up with us, from the initial meeting to checking in after it was all done. The crew that came out to work were fun, worked hard, and did a great job with the build, cleanup, and getting our input on design and function as they worked. Colin, the lead builder was awesome. All of our neighbors can not stop gushing over how beautiful our fence is! We hired Nick and his crew to build a fence for us and we could not be happier. First off, Nick has an amazing energy. You can tell right from your first interaction with him that he's honest, that he loves what he does, and that he works with integrity. Max, from KNO woodworks built us theeee most beautiful fence. He is the hardest working college kid I have ever seen and actually made me feel bad about sitting in a lifeguard chair during my college summers. KNO did everything they said they were going to do and did it well! The design process was smooth and my ideas were heard and implemented when they made sense. The price was better than competitors and the quality was just outstanding. I even had two very small issues with the fence that were fixed immediately. One was a cosmetic crack in a post and the other was a latch that was bent because the door slammed shut in a 40 mile an hour wind. Both were the fixed same day. I can't recommend KNO Woodworks enough. And if you are lucky enough to get Max to build your fence you might find yourself questioning your own personal work ethic like I did. read more

KNO Woodworks did an amazing job on our horizontal fence! We have a pergola we wanted to keep, which was tied into the old fence we had. Nick from KNO came and figured out a way to keep it, and his bid was lower than the other 2 companies who said they'd have to rip it out. Nick and the crew listened to our needs (related to our giant dog), and suggested solutions on the design to make sure it would be functional for us as well as beautiful. We had a little miscommunication on part of the plan at one point, and we felt Nick handled it promptly, with integrity, and with customer-service in mind to make sure we got what we wanted. The crew worked very fast and were all very respectful and friendly. KNO also sent someone back out a few weeks after the initial install to replace any boards that had warped since then. Overall an excellent experience with a new fence install. At the estimate/planning stage, Nick (the owner) was very passionate about the project and contributed many excellent ideas while also incorporating my inputs. Among the people we called for estimates Nick was unique in both commenting about the practical as well as the architectural aspects of the installation. His very personal treatment of the project set a good tone from the beginning. The estimate was very clear and the price was reasonable; in fact, it was by a slight margin the cheapest offer we got. The crew showed up early on the installation day and put the fence up in just a few hours, including a lovely decorative arbor. We were seeking multiple bids, and from the beginning, KNO Woodworks was great to work with: they gave us multiple options all on the lower end of the bids we received, but for high-end products and design options. They were very easy to work with through the entire process. Nick was extremely patient with our questions, taking the time to make sure we understood our options and the end result before they began the project. They were punctual for the appointments, and finished the entire project (a privacy fence with two gates surrounding the backyard and sides of the house) in less than two days. My father--a talented woodworker himself--was impressed with the wood quality and craftsmanship. Nick was a life saver, simply put. We own a condo in Richfield but my wife and I live in Kansas. We have a tenant that lives in the condo. We had significant water damage in our condo and it completely destroyed the wood floors. Since I'm not in MN and my property manager was not in the state for the month, I relied on Nick to handle everything from selecting, ordering and installing the wood floor while also coordinating with my tenant. Nick was more helpful than I could have ever imagined. He took care of everything with little direction and communicated regularly with updates. We have had "replace the exterior door" on our list for years. Nick took care of us in one day. Doing the job right and to the highest standards is his baseline. He was able to change our attitude from getting another thing completed from our Home Improvement To Do list to being excited that we were able to upgrade a feature in our home.
