Making an appointment was very easy via Facebook, and Lash Me were very pleasant and accommodating with their available times. I am disappointed however by the actual treatment and service, which cost $60. Walking in, the girl who did my lashes was unable to muster a smile in greeting, and throughout the entire treatment made no attempt to make conversation, while the lady and technician next to me who were undergoing the same treatment were chatting away just fine. This is not a big deal and I don't mind lying there in silence, but it wasn't what I expected after the friendly customer service on facebook. I made it clear this was my first ever eyelash anything, and it would've been nice if she had told me what was involved, how long it would take, and if I could ensure I was comfortable as my eyes would be sealed shut for 40 minutes! Afterwards, she didn't tell me what I needed to do or avoid either, and I only discovered by an internet search afterwards that I'm not supposed to wear eye makeup for 24 hours. I am mixed Aussie-Latino-Asian and my lashes are fine, straight and not long, however they aren't as stumpy and difficult to curl as some other Asian girls. I'd consider them average length. I was looking forward to this lash lift as it's designed to lift the lashes up at the root, so it is perfect for Asian girls with downwards-pointing lashes, and thus would be extra great for me! I was shocked however when I looked in the mirror after the procedure and saw no great improvement whatsoever, except for one clump of 3-4 lashes which stuck up much more than the others. There was just a slight fanning out of my lashes, and I can achieve a much more dramatic look with a cheap eyelash curler. I'm not sure if the failure of the lash lift was due to the procedure itself, which might not be able to deliver what it purports to, or if the fault lies with the technician and her skill. In her defence, she left the solution on longer just to ensure the curl would work, and used a size 'Small' silicone pad, but it still didn't work. I'm not sure why it works for others and not for me, when my lashes are not the worst of my features by far! Nonetheless, I really feel as though I just grabbed three $20 bills from my purse and plunged them down the toilet. Lash Me seems really great for lash extensions, but I would not recommend a lash lift.

It's a tumultuous relationship and one wrong move can see you passively aggressively ignoring your former beautician and starting a fresh with someone new. I decided to put my faith in In Therapy in Brisbane's Red Hill in the hope they'd restore my trust and give me the neat and tidy brows I so longed for after a rather disastrous brow wax some two months ago. With the growing out finally done it was time to put myself back on the market, so to speak. Their service menu claimed they "specialise in fabulous brows" and I eagerly set off to see just how fabulous my brows would be. I'm greeted by my technician and ushered into a therapy room and it's not unlike any other brow waxing experience of the past 12 or more years. Before long my technician has spent some 20 minutes working her magic on my brows and when I see them in the small hand mirror she provides to me I am proud to say, "Why yes, don't you two look fabulous." Back in their trim and tidy shape I happily pay $24 for the experience. Of course, brows isn't the only treatment In Therapy offers. They are a full-service beauty salon offering massage, facials, spray tan, mani and pedis. Perhaps the best thing that my sensitive skin praised them for was their use of organic strawberry wax. There was no extremely redden skin afterwards or strange looks from onlookers as I walked back to the office. With this being my second visit to In Therapy (the previous for a file and polish of the ol' fingernails) I can say that each time I walk in I feel instantly calm and like I'm away from the hustle of city life. I can't wait to go back and try more from their service menu. The lesson: sometimes it is good to branch out, try something new. Who knows what might happen? I think I've just found a brow spot to go steady with....

Winkbar is just a small little kiosk in Westfield Chermside, and they offer threading, eyelash/eyebrow tinting, eyelash extensions and perming, as well as massage. I hadn't made an appointment, but they were able to squeeze me in 20 minutes for an Eyebrow Threading ($28), so I did a bit of browsing at Kitten D'Amour (which is right near by) and then came back. They sit you down in a reclining chair and wipe rubbing alcohol and cleanser over the area. You're asked to close your eye and pull your eyelid tight and they work on your eyebrows. It's not very painful, a little more than tweezers, but not as bad as waxing. It only took a few minutes per eyebrow, and the woman did a great job shaping my eyebrows. When she was done, she gave me a short massage around my eyes and then we were done. All up it took less than 10 minutes. She said people usually come back between 2-4 weeks, and they have a rewards card - after 5 threading sessions, you get your 6th visit free! I'll definitely be back and maybe will get a massage next time too. Winkbar offers full body massage ($60), head/neck/shoulder ($50), indian head massage ($45), ayurvedic eye relief ($30) and hand massage ($20).

I have only had my eyebrows threaded, tinted, and lip threaded here. The threading cost cost $28 dollars though places in the Valley, City and Kelvin Grove do a identical job for around $12. The tinting cost $18 and made virtually no difference, perhaps half a shade darker. Actually it did kinda make a difference, it made me look like I had a mono-brow. The upper lip cost $16. The only differences are that it is located in a large shopping centre - so great for the air-con, no hills to walk (e.g. city), easy parking, a large variety of shops and they give a little longer massage. I suppose if it was a special occasion you might want to splurge, but if you have thick, quickly growing back brows like me then its too expensive to go often. 4 stars because of the price.

My therapist, Beth is a skilled woman! She takes care of all of my waxing requirements and is down to earth and professional. Wax is always fresh and it takes just 20 minutes for her to do a full brazilian! I also see Kaitlin every few months for my anti-wrinkle needs. A qualified injectible practitioner, Kaitlin is very knowledgeable and skilled at what she does. I've been to countless salons and she honestly gives me the best results out of any of them. Her treatments are painless and effective and I am left with minimal recovery time. I have also had a spray tan (my first ever!) administered by Charlotte, the salon manager.
