I have been fishing since I was 9 years old. In the years since, I have been fishing the west coast and Mexico. In that time, I have been lucky to have been with some amazing guides like Ronnie Kovach and Mike Gardner, or on boats like the Excel and the Freedom back when Tommy was the captain. George Smith of HerMoney is truly one of the best guides in the business. This year was our second trip in in three years with him. First, his boat is absolutely top notch and rock solid stable. His rental gear is actually quality equipment. A lot of guides that I have used in FL tend to hit WalMart and use their $20-30 specials. George is using good Okuma reels with good rods. They are loaded with spectra and have good top shots. As for the fishing, both of the trips he has guided, we have caught fish (reds, trout, drum, rays). This last trip was much better than the first. It was just a few weeks ago so it is still early in the season. What is truly special about HerMoney is the customer service. My mom is 75 years old and left handed. He took the time to set up her reel correctly for her. Then, for the rest of the day, he put bait on every hook, threw every cast, and did everything he could to make sure she caught fish. On the West Coast when you fish out of Newport, you are basically on your own. You go to San Diego, the deck hands spoil you.That is what it is like fishing with George. It is so fun to go fishing and not be the one who has to rig the rods, bait the jigs, pull the hooks. So, expect to tip at the end of the trip because he will earn it! One last thing, and this is just a thank you to George. I personally cannot cast a spinning a reel to save my soul. I started with conventional reels and never really learned the technique. This trip, he loaned me one of his rods to use with my reel. He rigged it up with a float setup and just went that extra mile. I truly can't say enough about his service.

I was recently in the area for a bachelorette party and we were looking for something outdoorsy to do that would be fun for our whole group. I am so glad we found this! Our group ranged in kayaking ability levels from quite adept to never-set-foot-in-one (me). Despite this, everyone in our group had a great time! For the newbies like me, you have nothing to be nervous about! I was pretty freaked out when I first got into the kayak, but our guides, Madeline and Rachel, were pros at making us all feel comfortable and prepared for the tour. The kayak is very easy to move around the water, and with just a few minutes of practice, I felt comfortable enough to start moving down the river. The guides will go at whatever pace the group wants to move. They are also very familiar with the river, and were able to point out a lot of cool plants and animals along the way. They even took us past the river's resident gator - from a safe distance! The tour lasts about 2 hours. I will admit that the last 20 minutes were the hardest for me, as my arms got pretty tired by then. But the more, ahem, athletic members of our group were totally fine. Despite this, I would absolutely recommend Amelia Adventures to anyone. Definitely check them out!
