The prices are phenomenal, and the apple pie shots are pretty darn delicious. The bartender on shift when we went in, Leah (I don't know how to spell her name, but that's how she pronounced it lol), was so much fun! She enjoyed herself and engaged with everyone in there without overindulging or breaking the rules. She has a great personality and definitely made our experience there far more enjoyable. They do not have a kitchen anymore, so there are no food options, unfortunately. But everything else definitely makes it worth it. There are also gambling machines for those who enjoy that as well as a pool table.

They have ample bike parking for the average biking crowd out back and plenty of parking for the trucks and hogs out front. It is not uncommon to see the mix of leather and spandex at this place! They also have a self supported bicycle repair station with a pump! The place itself is an old steel kwanza hut, but with some ingenuity and creative craftsman they have converted it into a fun and 'divey' spot. Indoors there is a large expansive bar, a walkup counter to order food and plenty of high-top tables to spread out the patrons. While outside they have a massive deck and an outdoor bar and smokehouse. It's a great place to sit an soak up some sun and watch he bike, runners and even horse riders go by. We love the Moscow mule selection they have here, and always seem to need more than one. While we didn't eat this trip the food is always a solid choice. The waitress on this last visit was running and taking care of an ever growing crowd. She is calm cool and collected and even made time to check on us folks on the deck. While plum-sized potato dumplings cooked in ham broth doesn't really push my boundaries in the ethnic foods department, this Norwegian food is a large part of the persona of this little town. And the crowds here indicate that. The legion will serve between 200-250 in the two hours they are serving. Word is around town that this is the best example of this dish you are going to find and for $7 bucks I'd encourage anyone to put it to the test. You'll get all-you-can-eat kumla dumplings and shredded ham, canned green beans, roll and apple sauce. It's the hearty meal that built this town in central Iowa. Well worth a visit to try this Scandinavian oddity. As per my previous review, there's still a comfortable full-service bar in the basement of this place and it's open to the public. LOWS: Food: Mozzarella sticks were pale and bland. The red sauce tasted like canned tomato paste. The charcuterie board was a let down too. The prosciutto was overly slimy and smelled spoiled. The bread wasn't a fresh sourdough like advertised, it was a Texas toast. HIGHS: Cocktails: The drinks we had were great! They have over 100 different bourbon and a variety of cocktails. Mixed Feelings: Music: The band Nola was fantastic. They matched the vibe we were expecting. But no one told us about the $5 (per person) cover charge. It wasn't on the menu, the website or the reservation nor was it mentioned to us verbally. Ambiance: The decor and dark chairs were great. However I've never been to a speakeasy with wide open windows that let so much light in.

Be prepared to show a little grace, there were a lot of cars turning in there as we came up to it- from the food, I'm guessing they're always busy! My wife chose their mainline burger (no cheese) and house fries. Honestly, I think we could tell how good it was going to be when got out of the car and that awesome charbroil smell overwhelmed us. She loved it. I had the Chipotle Bacon cheeseburger on Texas toast, well done for me (they will prepare to your liking), which is charbroiled, then dunked in their home made bourbon sauce and served with Swiss cheese and jalapeños. The fries have some type of coating that makes them a little crispier and a little tastier. Even if you're cruising up I35, it's worth the detour into WC for a great meal.
