Beyond the little things ie: being punctual, giving a helpful safety run down and making you immediately feel comfortable on the boat.... Kevin is an exceptional guide who's extremely skilled/knowledgeable in his trade. You'll catch fish and impressive ones at that. I also have to mention, he was the hardest working guide we've ever experienced. There was never a "now we wait" scenario. Kevin was constantly checking the gear, tide, wind, bait etc... he didn't sit down. We were the second leg of his day but you would NEVER know it. The guy is truly impressive and fishing is his calling. We caught 7 fish - 5 of which were MONSTER lake trout. Each and every reel was a thrill!.. Much to our dismay we don't live in Chicago but every time we're in town for a visit, a day out with Captain Kevin will be on the agenda. We drank a few brews, listened to music, and caught lots of fish. More than anything, it's nice to experience good times with good people. You almost don't even care if you catch any fish. Jeff and Jessika are great. Beautiful down to earth folks and we really love going out there with them. Heading out, we played music and watched the Chicago skyscrapers sink into the ground. No cellphone service way out there, so we're just out there enjoying uninterrupted time together. We all draw numbers to determine the rotation and for the second time we went through the rotation twice. Everyone got to haul in fish. I almost didn't want us to write this review right now because we want to book another outing in September and I selfishly want to go out with Jeff and Jessika again. By writing this review now, they may get booked by more people. But I decided to write it now anyway, because they deserve it. Thank you, Captain Jeff and Jessika! Booked Captain Tom's Penalty Box for my boyfriend's Birthday! Sent out information on Tom's website…read moreand Tom got back at me the next day. Whenever I have questions I'll just text Tom and he usually replies pretty quick. We scheduled the cruise at 3 but we didn't get to the harbor until almost 4 due to traffic. Tom is very understanding. We brought some food and drinks and Tom has a cooler with ice ready on the boat. Started off with a Chicago river cruise. My boyfriend got a bit sea sick when we were cruising on the lake... what can I say, freaking Chicago wind, but the river cruise is calm and nice. Caption Tom is patient to explain all the functions of the boat (wow two engines) and other interesting facts about Michigan Lake and Chicago river. We got caught in the rain for a bit but lucky the boat has a roof and we brought cards. When we got back on the lake the sun came out again so we stayed a while for a little lake front swim party... kinda funny since my boyfriend can't swim. Tom eventually find a rope to tie to his life vest so he had fun. Finished off the cruise at around 8 as we planed. Great day! Highly recommended!

He and the first mate also let us help with some of the sailing tasks. The Radiance is an impressive boat, and even with light winds, we got a good taste of sailing on Lake Michigan. An added bonus is launching out of Montrose Harbor, which is surrounded by a park, golf course, nature trail, food spots and places to swim.

We were a group of 6 and looking for a weekend 2 hour sail. Since I was booking last minute, most of the other charters I enquired were either booked or quoted jaw dropping rates. Captain Ben accommodated us all on his amazing race boat at a fairly reasonable rate. He is a professional racer and it showed when he cruised the boat in fast into Lake Michigan., much to our thrill. We took out own beer and some food. He provides you with drinking water and a place to cook too. Captain Ben is an instructor too so its fun learning the basics if you're a first timer. Wish we could do longer but with friends flying out and everything, we could sail for only 2 hours. But it was an amazing experience and my friends loved it. We will definitely go back.

There is a bathroom on board which is great! There is a Bluetooth speaker, so you can jam to whatever you like. There is also a cooler for drinks, table for food and games. You can also swim before sundown. The crew was great, shout out to Steve and Captain Jerry! They were a lot of fun, took us super close to the firework show and out to the lighthouse. The experience exceeded our expectations in every way. Mary was incredibly detail-oriented, professional, and great to work with from the beginning. Captain Val and crew were personable, professional, incredibly friendly, and accommodating. We lucked out and had beautiful weather, awesome views of the shore and skyline, ample drinks and food, and the crew took every possible responsibility out of our hands. A month and a half later, guests still comment on what a fun, neat experience the evening on Valara was, using words like "magical" to describe the night, and we are already plotting for a 5/10 year anniversary party someday! So I chartered the Sea Moose thru Chicago Yacht Rentals. Rebecca Huang was my key contact and amazing. Not only did see handle the charter, fantastic catered food and beverage, but she was on board helping the crew deliver a very memorable, unforgettable night for my wife, me and our 40 guests. Topped off by 80 degree weather, clear blue skies, magnificent sunset, smooth waters and a very full moon it was spectacular. I was in the hospitality business for 45 years entertaining groups from 40 to 15,000. So I'm a very critical judge of good quality and delivering what was promised/contracted.
