I've been told it's quite expensive in local standards but for the atmosphere it's worth it. I'd like to give a shoutout to one of the chefs. We had shown up here and the hostess had said they were not taking any one without a reservation. But there were open tables. Disappointed, we walked out. Standing in front of the restaurant, trying to figure out what to do, the cook comes out and says they will make room for us. Absolutely the sweetest. We were so stoked to eat at this place again. He even brought out tasty food out to us himself!

The meat of the fishes were both really tender (haddock and the cod). You get a huge portion for the large size and even the small cod I got seemed pretty big. They use a gluten free batter for the fish which was pretty unique and tasty. They use rapeseed oil for frying which is also gluten free. I really don't care for gluten free food but would prefer this batter over the traditional ones which seemed less heavy! The scampi uses a traditional batter which was heavier but still pretty good. Their fries are thick and has a great texture. The fries does not feel oily. Looks like they have two locations: wapping wharf (which is closer to the city and new) and chew valley. This one is located inside a street of small store on the left and door is usually closed and you have to slide it open so be on the lookout for the name of the restaurant on the window. Seriousley though this is a pretty good place to pop for your fish and chip fix, it's got a good reputation that is gaining momentum. It sounds like such a simple thing to make some chips, but to keep up a good standard that everyone expects and keep giving a chip that will taste the same whatever time of day, in whatever month and year is pretty good. I shall swing by a year from now (probably next week to be honest!) and see if the chips still taste as good as I remembered.

There is a casual single file queuing system that kind of snakes around the shop. You order and pay at the same time, then stand around for them to get through a bunch of orders at once. It does mean if you want something cooked special you will have to wait first in the queue and then wait again as they cook, so expect up to 10 minutes for things like haddock, chicken and some pies. Im not all out of faith though with my old chip shop The Westbourne Chippy. Its just that its a Tuesday and it was inconveniently shut.
