This is my second time here. We ate here the first time we visited Bristol and had to come back…read morethis time around. Probably our favorite fish and chips pub in all of Bristol. I love the decor- very mythical fishermen with posters for movies and wanted signs. They have an extensive menu, including alcohol and their cider comes in 500ml bottles. I've been told it's quite expensive in local standards but for the atmosphere it's worth it. I'd like to give a shoutout to one of the chefs. We had shown up here and the hostess had said they were not taking any one without a reservation. But there were open tables. Disappointed, we walked out. Standing in front of the restaurant, trying to figure out what to do, the cook comes out and says they will make room for us. Absolutely the sweetest. We were so stoked to eat at this place again. He even brought out tasty food out to us himself!

The local chippy may have won some awards, but the takeaway vibe isn't so enticing. So when you want a bit more of a dining experience this is a modest cafe style setting that's nicely decorated in the centre of town. We parked in the back streets on a meter. My haddock and chips and Sam's cod and chips were freshly made and really good. Our waitrees gave us friendly service and was attentive. We went in the early evening in early Jan and it was pretty empty.

My favourite fish n chip shop in the area, opens nice and late as well. They often suspiciously…read moredon't have any haddock (cheaper than cod, and more eco-friendly!) during week nights but all the fish is good and chips are tasty but not oily. There is a casual single file queuing system that kind of snakes around the shop. You order and pay at the same time, then stand around for them to get through a bunch of orders at once. It does mean if you want something cooked special you will have to wait first in the queue and then wait again as they cook, so expect up to 10 minutes for things like haddock, chicken and some pies. Takeaway only!

Prince's is a traditional and excellent fish and chip shop. With the possible exception of having…read morethe seaside nearby or my food coming wrapped in newspaper, this shop ticks all the boxes for me. It's a big, clean and airy room with a nice and clear menu behind the till and an enticing display of pies and battered fishies on the go. The old favourite will set you back a touch more than a fiver (even more if you want mushy peas) but as we all know that's because we British went a tad bit berserk with the fishing in the 90s. Big fat steak and kidney pies, sausage rolls and bits of chicken are up for grabs should you want something else, all of which is, as with the fish and chips, very yummy indeed. They're flying the flag high and proud so do it justice and pop by sometime.

Dear Deidri My name…read moreis Chris Joy im 33 and very confused ! I mean that I really dont know what to do ? Nothings right, im Torn. Im not all out of faith though with my old chip shop The Westbourne Chippy. Its just that its a Tuesday and it was inconveniently shut. And now im affraid to say I think ive cheated on them with another chipper. Its not my fault I was hungry and I had no choice. The Star Fish Bar was a good choice though ! And a by chance one at that! I have just enjoyed a fantastic cod and chips. Freshly cooked and with so many chips I have had to undo the top button on my shorts for fear of popping it off. I have to say the cod is on a par with the best of anything I've ever had. The chips are also lovely. But its the curry sauce thats going to bring me back. Its blooming superb. They also have a selection of burgers and keebabs but I didnt pay to much attention to them. And they also sell oi oi Savaloys what ever they are, some sort of sausage maybe ? They're very competitively priced. We both stuffed ourselves silly for tenner. And the service was very prompt and with a smile ! I shall be returning. But maybe I'll interchange with my other lover.

I don't usually buy chips though - the portion size is way too much for me, so it's largely a waste of money. Can't understand why you can't buy just a small portion of chips at a reduced price. One scoop of chips at say, £1 which is something I would like to see.
