I was pretty excited to check this one out. Had driven past it a few times at night. The setup? A…read more50s 60s 70s themed american diner. Quite well done if you ask me. I really liked the small jackets as chair covers. And parking meter and bowling pins on booth edges. Anyway onto the menu... the burgers are names of cars. There's also a hot dog section as well. I ordered the Jeep for the double patty melted cheese and caramelised onion... took a few seconds to plan my culinary attack... gave up after 2 seconds and chomped away! IMHO... it wasn't that great. More like 2.5 stars than 3. It's very high in salt content. All of it. The bacon, patty and the sauce was a bit of over kill. It started falling apart mid way and had to change tactics.. flipped it on to the top of the bun as base. It wasn't the size of it that got to me rather than the saltiness. The burger itself is not complex and does not have a "wow" factor. Well none after the initial awe due to size. Basic white large bun, 2 decent sized patties, albeit quite salty. Bacon .. not crisp.. melted cheese caramelised onions and loads of BBQ sauce. Reminds me a lot of what you could expect at a sausage sizzle .. less the size and double patty. You can make up ur own mind I guess .. as for me......

Forget the name of the burger I had, double dodge maybe. OMG it was the best burger I've ever had,…read morethe beef patty was mouth watering juicy! I had a late lunch and could barely finish it, but I forced myself because I could not watch myself waste such a delicious burger! As Molly Meldrum says do yourself a favour and check out this joint!

It's a darn good burger…read more.. Finally got around to giving this one a go.. maybe my expectations were set high... have been looking fwd to Royales for awhile now. Planets got aligned today and reserved some space in the tum tum from lunch in Brighton... Royales is behind the Pantry and works well for the clientele that it attracts! Onto the burger... without taking it apart my first bite was as if it was the most beautiful thing in the world!! I devoured it. it was only until I was half way through that I remembered to take note of what was inside... nothing pretentious.. just a whole hearty "proper" burger with lettuce .. I noticed my grip as well.. substantial yet not fist size like fatbob's! "Milk" bun was nice. Not too heavy and complemented the fillings well. the patty although not as good as Laurie Dee's or Chew's, was significant and meaty enough for a thumbs up. like other reputable burgers the patty has granular bits of meat with some burnt bits. All in all ... awesome. WIR? most definitely! Is it the best?? hmm this I will leave to ur own judgement. We all have our favourites ... happy yelping y'all!!

I was a little surprised to see the lukewarm to bad review on this place since every time I go by…read moreRoyale Brothers it is packed. I stopped in and ordered a spicy royale which has, in additional to cheese, regular veggies, and a royale sauce an additional jalapeno sauce. The burger was very good. Cooked well with a delightfully fluffy bun that never got soggy. It wasn't that spicy, but I did like the little bit of kick the spicy sauce gave. Their fries are also surprisingly good. In my experience, there are two kinds of fries or chips served in Melbourne/Victoria/Australia. One is what we in the US of A would call "steak fries." Basically thick cut potatoes that are, typically, under-cooked and soggy. They require huge amounts of Ketchup/mayo/HP Sauce to be edible and, really, why not just eat a baked potato? Many pubs, unfortunately, have these kinds of chips/fries. On the other side are Belgian style fries or classic french fries that are thinly cut and, at their best, double fried (in duck fat preferably) to cook the inside and then crisp the outside without over or under doing either part. Royale brothers had an intermediate fry/chip that was both on the large end (but not huge) and very crispy and well cooked. They were also seasoned well with a choice of a variety of dipping sauces. There is no indoor seating so you are eating outside or taking it home. For my purposes that is usually fine as Royale Brothers is located at an attractive end of Church street and it is nice to sit outside when it is not raining. Verdict: nothing to complain about and I will be returning. The only reason I didn't give it 4 stars is that the burger, while the best I have had here, did not blow me away. I will be going back and sampling some of their other options in the future, though and that may increase my score.

The food was beautifully presented and the space was warm. The service was great and friendly…read more I ordered the cookies n creme smash Oreos sliders and I just couldn't love it. There was really just one note, just sweet. It's creme in a donut style bun and on a plate of bananas, figs, honey comb, caramel, honey, pistachio, edible flowers. But there was no balance just sweet on sweet on sweet. Fearing this I ordered smoked salmon just to have a bit of salt. The dish was visually amazing but it was hard to eat and I couldn't finish it. I love the idea but just needed something. Even if the pistachios were salted that would have helped. I get what these guys are trying to do but it just want for me.

A new cafe opens in Melbourne nearly every month but are usually concentrated around the city and…read moresurrounding suburbs. The newest opening comes from the team behind powerhouse cafes Short Straw, Touchwood and Tall Timber and resides in dreamy Carnegie. Located on an street corner in a mostly residential area, Left Field brings it to life with good quality food and coffee and accompanying crowds. It actually took two attempts in the weekend after opening to get a table. Left Field takes on one of the signature design trends of white walls, light timber and exposed light bulbs which offers a clean, open and modern atmosphere. A dark-toned tile mosaic behind the counter area and a scattering of potted plants throughout the cafe add a touch of colour. Seating is a mixture of small tables and booths inside and the same outside along the length of the white painted brick exterior. The food menu, as the name might suggest, is a little left field with Middle Eastern influences. Highlights include the Smashed peas bruschetta, Beetroot cured ocean trout and the Supergreen tacos. The braised Moroccan lamb shoulder with pistachio, cranberry and quinoa tabouleh, feta, green chermoulah dressing and garlic yoghurt. Presentation was a little surprisingly with fine dining-like styling. The lamb shoulder was tender and juicy with an exciting flavour combination provided by the rubbed spices and the fruity tabouleh. Gluten free, dairy free and nut-containing dishes are highlighted for those with dietary requirements. Coffee is from Niccolo with a blend and single origin espresso and filter options. Soy and almond milk is available. There is also a range of teas, soft drinks and cold pressed juices. Service is like clockwork, especially during the busy opening period. Left Field brings a touch of the city cafe culture to the outer south eastern suburbs and is sure to be a local favourite.
