Mind you, Moorabbin isn't one of my favourite suburbs in Melbourne, there just doesn't seem to be all that much here. Hey, at least the trains are regular, and you can even catch some express ones as well, which is certainly quite handy. Still, as a station, it doesn't particularly stand out all that much.

A friend and I were on Day 3 of our 12-Day Southern Australia Explorer cruise with Princess Cruises, we took the local train into town for some casual exploration, and after a stop at Federation Square, we proceeded to Flinders Street Railway Station. The station was named after renowned Capt. Matthew Flinders, a Royal Navy officer, navigator, and cartographer, who led the first inshore circumnavigation of mainland Australia then called New Holland, was also credited as the first person to to utilize the name "Australia" to describe the entirety of the continent. This was Australia's oldest train station, and with its prominent green copper dome, distinctive yellow facade, arched entrance, and clocks, it was one of Melbourne's most recognizable landmarks. The station was completed in 1910, and the upper floors were purpose-built to house a library, gym, and lecture hall, later used as a ballroom. Its 708-meter main platform was the fourth longest railway platform in the world. A noted heritage site, it was one of the busiest suburban railway stations in the Southern Hemisphere with over 1,500 trains and 110,000 commuters passing through each day. With all of these historical facts, were we impressed by this famously-named railway station!? PURCHASE We didn't spend any money here, but of course the main financial transactions were for ride fares. Because we didn't go inside, I couldn't say whether or not there were other opportunities to separate you from your money! SERVICE Again, we didn't venture inside, so I imagined there were staffers around, and hopefully, the trains ran on time (which I suspected they did) - 'nuff said. PARKING (Varied; N/A this instance) I wouldn't suspect any onsite parking simply because of the nature of this transit center. Most passengers and people would either be already on a train, had taken public transportation to this station, or simply walked. Otherwise, if you needed to park for whatever reason, there was a large onsite lot at nearby Federation Square at various rates ($8.00AUD - $64.00AUD) based on day, event, reason, and time. Additionally, there appeared to be a decent amount of parking on all surrounding streets (please note any posted signs) - 'nuff said. Tickets windows, train schedules, clocks, and paths that branched out in many directions to their respective platforms, this was a sight to see. Minimal natural lighting entered through the stained-glass windows and entrances, while numerous electric ceiling lights filled in the rest. OVERALL There was such a charming historic feel about the Flinders Street Railway Station that I only appreciated from the outside having not looked in. I wished I hopped onto a train that took me through the station, but on this day it was crowded with people which was very unappealing to me. There were also interesting lore and stories (ghosts!?) to research for some good tales. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $0.00AUD / $0.00USD BEFORE any discounts/tip). So, there are some good things about this station, one being that it exists (because that is always…read moregood when it comes to railway stations) and that it is in a quiet part of Melbourne. Oh, and there is a park and a cafe nearby. However, the catch is that interchanging between train and tram is annoying because it is a five minute walk. Mind you, this dates back to when they were all owned by competing companies, so making it easy to interchange wasn't on the cards. Still, it's a nice station.

A part of me expected that this station was just going to be one of those boring country stations,…read morenamely because Diggers Rest really isn't all that big. However, upon jumping off the train I noticed that it does happen to have one of those nice, older buildings that you tend to find on a number of the railway stations. In fact, that made this place pretty cool. Oh, they have also completely refurbished the place as well when they electrified the line.

They have a bus terminal(skybus) and many platforms. You can use this station to go to suburb and to the airport. Quite convenient!!

We've all got our crosses to bear. For me, the station formerly known as has two. There's the new…read morename, and the connotations of racism and "mateism" that the term now associates with. But that's forgivable, I suppose. What's less forgivable that they don't have a full, visible timetable after the paywall. You get your ticket, pass the gates, and you either need to know your platform or you'll have to leave and come back. How could the architects of the multi-illion dollar refit not realise the problem with this?

This is another one of those really lovely old stations that you tend to find around the inner city…read moreof Melbourne. Sure, trains may not be all that frequent, but then do come along with reasonable regularity. However, like a lot of these older stations, one of the biggest problems I find is that they tend to lack facilities, especially if you need to pay uncle John a visit. Still, it is quite accessible, so I'll certainly it it that.

Then again, while a station may be really nice to look at, and have some historical feel, it still doesn't necessarily mean that it is good, especially if, like this one, it lacks any real facilities.

For a station that was built in 1890, it doesn't feel like it was. In fact, it feels as if it was…read morebuilt much later because the build just seems to be rather bland. Actually, I'm not sure how long this station is going to last because there happens to be a level crossing which they are slowly removing from Melbourne. I guess the one important thing about this station is that it is located near the Kooyong Tennis Club, which is where the Australian Open used to be held, but it isn't these days, ever since the construction of the Tennis Centre near the MCG.

A great suburban railway station has that 40's feel, a tad safer with a crossing guard house…read moremanned, protective service officers in the evening and a great location. Clean, with a good vibe, nice outlook and never crowded. Overall a great local station that I love living near and using and have never had an issue at the station. Hardly ever site troublemakers and be aware Vision Australia is opposite to be mindful of some people whay maybe Vision impaired, whilst they are familiar with the stop, offer a seat on the train if they board with you, some with their lovely guide dogs....
