We used Toomey's for my bridal shower, and I thought they were great. Super friendly, affordable and easy to work with. The tables, chairs and tent we got were all in great condition. The linens and china were in great condition and clean! I am surprised by the poor review, but most companies can't give you an exact time of delivery or pick up, I mean UPS won't even tell you the approximate time of day they are coming! read more

This is hands down the worse renting experience I've had. I ordered 40 chairs for a party when I was unloading I noticed they only gave me 39 when I brought it to there attention they told me that I had to pay for the missing chair that was NEVER given to me. I will never come back to this place or suggests these scammers to anyone. read more

Went in prepared to rent a bunch of stuff for a big party we're having... the first thing we asked about was helium and were told they don't have it and that we should contact a distributor. When we asked for a distributor they directed us to the phone book. At that point we just walked out. Worst company ever to do business with. First conversation I had, the guy was very nice. Second conversation I had regarding payment he treated me like I was stupid. He was very very rude. We paid cash for the the rental of tables and chairs, which they then required a $40 deposit. It rained very heavy. We tried to do our best in keeping the tables dry so there was no damage. My boys went to drop them off the next morning and the manager and staff starting yelling at my boys about the tables being wet and refused to give our deposit back. These guys are thieves and will steal your money. Do not do business with them unless you are willing to forfeit your deposit. read more

Wanted to rent a ladder, but was told that I could not because their insurance company requires a pickup truck or a van with a certain type of ladder rack on top. I have a perfectly safe rack trailer that I could have transported it with. No opportunity to sign a waiver of responsibility for problems in transporting it 3 miles to my house. Sad that they have no choice but to kowtow to their insurance company. I now have a bad taste in my mouth about Toomey's, and shall never rent so much as a tea cup from them. I rented a Big John rotisserie this past weekend from Toomey Rentals for a pig roast I have been meaning to do for a while. I am an Executive Chef for a Private Collage, the company I work for does business with Toomey's regularly, so naturally I figured I would rent from them. My first impression was quite positive, the front staff was professional and answered all my questions. They informed me the max capacity of the rotisserie was 70lbs, so I bought a 60lb pig although its final weight was 65lbs. I picked up the roaster and was given a brief demonstration on how to assemble and properly use it. I brought it to my event location (not at my home) assembled it and ensured it worked. At 4am the next day it was time to get cooking. I placed the pig on the spit turned it on and noticed that the chain was jumping off the gears, I thought perhaps the pig was too heavy and remembered I was told 70lbs max. So thinking 65lbs may be too heavy I took the pig off the spit and removed the legs and head approximately 15lbs I'm sure it weighed more however I wish to be as accurate as possible. Now with this decapitate legless pig weighing no more than 50lbs went back on the spit, turned on the motor and the same issue was happening (while the spit turned the chain started jumping). Now having already lost close to two hours cooking time I started to panic I closely watched the motor and spit and realized the spit was slightly bent which caused each revolution of the spits sprocket holding the chain to raise up that also caused the jumping of the chain. I also noticed the bolts holding the motor to the frame where loose allowing the motor to move when the bent spit arched. I was forced to remove the pig again, run to the store to get tools and tighten everything. Finally with everything tight and in working order I was able to start cooking again, however 3 hours later the same thing started to happen, again I took the pig off and tightened everything up. When I returned the equipment to Toomey's I started to tell my experience to who I believe was the owner and was (in my opinion) blown off. I tried to explain that the bolts and the bent spit caused everything to go out of whack repeatedly and he just said "I looked for the shear pin you must have torn it off that's the first thing I look for and its gone", I explained to him I never saw a pin and I'm not looking for a refund I just want to save the next person the same aggravation so I'd like to tell you about my experience. He said well "it worked out for you right", handed me my receipt and turned away. I feel totally blown off and I truly do wish to save the next person and that's why my review is here. Again, in an effort to be as accurate as possible I contacted big john rotisseries based out of Pennsylvania, I spoke with a very nice lady named Amber, I asked about the sheer pins and was informed there weren't any, she explained there is an Allen wrench key to tighten the sprockets as they routinely loosen she stated no heavy load would cause it to break off and it's attached as a convenience to have the Allen wrench readily available for tightening (this was not attached when I rented it and in fact I purchased a set of Allan wrenches to tighten the sprockets). Amber further explained that a bent spit would absolutely cause all the problems I encountered. She recommends the spit be replaced to avoid further issues. If you need a BBQ spit for anything and you are planning on ordering it here you will need the following. Tie downs (to secure the grill), wrench sets (to constantly tighten all bolts), Allan wrenches (small ones for tightening sprockets), several vice grips (to clamp down sides of grill and steel plates around motor to stop it from jumping) defibrillator (to revive you after your second heart attack) and plenty of patience/beer because your event will probably be late. Again In all honesty this was the best priced rental of its kind in the area and it seems that way across the board, I was also allowed to keep the unit all weekend for the price of one day which was a super plus. However I did pay for the rental almost a month in advance and expected it to be in good working order for my event. Next time I think I'll try a different company and hopefully if I encounter a problem it won't be handled by the seemingly well-rehearsed dodge/deflect & blame game. Hope this helps. read more
