I love a local grocer. Hughes is no exception - they had a really good selection of fruit and veg,…read morewhich all looked in very good nick. They also had other useful bits and bobs such as nuts and herbs, and 2 packets of Foxes chocolate biscuits for a mere £1! That was, of course, a special offer - I can't promise you that that is a permanent feature... I bought an enormous bag of Braeburn apples and a less enormous bag of nectarines, - plus my 2 packets of biscuits it all came to £3.58, which seemed very reasonable.

Hughes is a mini supermarket that mainly sells fresh fruit and vegetables. They also sell a few…read moreplain flowers. The only negative thing I have to say about Hughes is that the aisles are narrow and I soon discovered people have to walk down them in single file. If you want to go past somebody you'll have to shuffle or squeeze past them. I'm sure this invaded people's personal space, like it did mine. Birmingham has loads of shops like Hughes and many of the ones I've seen are quiet unclean and it's obvious the products have been left out for a while. Here though, there's probably fresher fruit and vegetable here than in the supermarket not to mention the prices are a lot better. As well as the normal prices being low, I was also pleased to see the amount of deals they had. Two boxes of strawberries can be picked up for £1.00 and a bunch of bananas for just under £1.00. So I think this shop is underrated.

The award winning Brown and Green deserves many accolades. Not only is it a lovely and well laid…read moreout store, it's range of locally sourced produce is fantastic, and is matched by the friendly and attentive staff who share in the store's values. I love going here and coming out with products. Highly recommended.

I am a farm shop fanatic. Arguably, this one isn't on a farm, but it has the feel and is packed…read morewith local (and some not) produce. I like coming here and buying a handful of things whilst ensuring myself that one day I shall buy all of my food from this sort of place. Fresh vegetables, local (and gorgeous Edinburgh) gin, fill my spice rack, and my fridge with black bomber cheese and rabbit pate and fancy scotch eggs. They have handmade chocolates and macarons in a little counter at 100g for £4, which I believe is the same, or at least very similar to Thornton's servery, and less than my local card shop. I'm always drawn to the large array of bagged dried fruit (I've had a problem for dried papaya since childhood). There's always some chocolate with stupid, bright, badly designed packaging with silly, soppy slogans all over them. The baskets are big and cute, and there's loads of great meat, interesting tea, coffee, jams, beer, wine, gift ideas to keep you searching the store. Charmingly, and kind of irritating, the staff are so lovely and helpful and quick to say hello with a smile, you feel super guilty if you leave with nothing, and that's already hard with the produce on offer. I "oohed" at some passion fruit vodka earlier, and out of nowhere popped a woman with a sample (there was a stand, the staff weren't casing customers), I didn't partake because I was driving, but it smelled gorgeous. I can't mark it down because of the price, because there are some steals- and that's the nature of quality stuff.

NEVER EVER GOING THERE AGAIN. AVOID THESE FAKESTERS. MEDINA SUPERSTORE, MAS BAZAR and even BANGLa STATION with its high prices is better than Paks supermarket lozells road, atleast in Bangl station you gonna get fresh produce at the weight it's supposed to be at even if they charge extra but at PaKsSupermarket Lozells not only they charge you but the hive you produce which is gone bad and even from there they will steal a few pieces out. STAY AWAY, STAY AWAY, STAY AWAY. BTW have you guys seen the TikTok videos by PaKs lozells road, all comments are turned off. we wonder why. must be a reason. what have you got to hide. you don't want the word getting around that you guys are leeching off the local community. you disgraceful people.
