I am updating my review because I just went back and Kevin was forced to raise his prices for a beard trim and hair cut. This is understandable and most likely my fault because after my review 6 months ago I guess 25 or so guys scheduled beard trims and only gave him 6 dollars with no tip. Shame on you people don't you know to tip the barber? Kevin has updated his service to be 18 dollars for a beard trim and haircut combo (still a great deal). I will continue coming to Kevin for the foreseeable future. read more

As a veteran I have had the pleasure of getting my haircut from a plethora of barbers/hair stylist from all of the world. After a year of searching for the right place I decided to get on Yelp to find the highest rated places around town. Ironically enough, that is how I found Kevin. I can assure you it is not by accident Tony's Barber shop is (at the time of writing this review) 5 out 5 stars . Kevin is the most down to earth and personable barber you will find in Seattle. He brings a level of care and precision to his craft you won't find anywhere else! Why? Because Kevin is a genuine human being who sincerely cares about his customers. No sir, you will not get an "in & out" super cut here. Kevin is not in it for the profits or expansion. He is honestly trying to make a living providing a quality service. Kevin even uses what spare time he does have to assist the homeless around the surrounding area to get back on their feet in any way he can. If that is the type of business you would like to support, please stop in and see this man. You will not be disappointed! I only hope I can find more personable business such as this! read more

Definitely a unique experience in Seattle. Chic 60's style, single chair, excellent hair cut (with scissors!), and genuinely quirky/funny conversation- Kevin is quite a character! In addition to providing a fine hair cut (which he points out will impress your girlfriend- *wink*), he sings along with and provides commentary on just about all the hits of the 70's, 80's, 90's, and today, tells you why his shop is still listed as "Tony's" and what happened to Tony, grumbles about the online radio signal quality, and knows quite a bit about quite a bit. I've never seen porno mags (sitting in an "adults only" wall file) in a barber shop. He's got some rules and you should stick to 'em: -Call if you're running late -Call before your appointment starts if you need to cancel. If you don't call to cancel, he'll charge you the full cost of the missed appointment if you try to book with him again -Walk-ins aren't likely to be served right away. Much better to make an appointment -Tip your barber (he doesn't outright say this, but guys- check out his prices and do the right thing) The one star off is for talking smack about his other customers. From the conversation and multiple signs on the wall, I gather that he is easily offended by the myriad ways that people are disrespectful and he will likely talk about you and your disrespectful ways if you are one of those people. So, another suggested rule if you grace his shop: Don't be a jerk. read more

I took the hubby to Tony's Barber Shop for the very first time today, based solely on the Yelp reviews for the shop. He's job hunting right now, so--while I normally trim his hair and beard myself--we decided to get his hair/beard done professionally this time, just to make sure he was extra-neat and spiffy. Bottom line: we fell in love with Kevin right off the bat, and we'll definitely be back! :) Beyond that, the other reviews here seem to be spot-on! On top of bring cash/be polite about making and keeping appointments/don't be rude in his establishment ... which should be the rules in most places ... Kevin is a great barber, and we found him quite fun to talk to, too. He also did an EXCELLENT job on my husband's mid-length beard! Oh, and--while we were talking--I discovered that Kevin apparently helps out some of the homeless men in the neighborhood with haircuts sometimes, too ... so I made sure to give him an extra-good tip just to make sure he's able to continue that service to the more misfortunate in our area. A good haircut at a good price. The laughs are free! You can go anywhere and get a run-of-the-mill haircut. But if you want your hair cut by a trained, licensed honest-to-goodness professional barber, Kevin is your guy! Kevin is not only a great barber but he is armed with a great sense of humor and a gift for storytelling. Haircuts are by appointment only, but that's a plus! It's just you and your barber. If you want conversation Kevin is a fun guy to talk to and he can talk on just about any topic. Wow!! I booked an appointment for my husband while visiting from Vancouver BC. I'm a hairstylist and the only one who has cut my husband's hair for years. This time, I didn't have the time to do it. I'm picky about his cuts and we were both nervous about a new place. Kevin is not only technically one of the best barbers I've seen but he's just so cool too. Unassuming non hipster shop where the conversation just flowed easily like we had all known each other for years. You don't get service like that often. Kevin is a nice guy who truly cares. He understands that while he might not be able to get you in when you walk in the door, and you may be disappointed, take his suggestion and come back on appointment. He doesn't want to rush the current client. Both the current client and you, the door-walker-inner-turned-appointment-holder will be appreciative in the long run. Kevin is great barber. He treats his customers with respect and knows what he's doing. The experience of getting a haircut from him is much better than going to one of those other chain stores. I've been to those chain salons and they're motto is to get you in and out as quick as possible so they can get to the next customer. Unlike those other stores, Kevin is not about getting you in and out as quick as possible. He makes you feel relaxed, at ease, and he's focused on getting your to look good. read more
