If you are heading towards Valdez from Anchorage you MUST STOP HERE! Absolutely amazing food, probably some of the best food I've had in Alaska. The Russian stew & the mushroom medley is a MUST! Beautiful restaurant with a pool table & bar.

Definitely the best food for over a hundred miles. Don't regret passing by this wonderful food that is amazingly prepared. Almost eighty miles north of Valdez and thirty-five miles south of Glennallen it was a great place to stop for dinner. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu.

Authentic Russian restaurant with delicious meals. I'm Russian and I can assure you it is Russian cuisine at its best. Had meals there twice: on our way to Valdez and back. Among appetizers, we tried draniki (potato cakes) and crab cakes. Among soups, we ate bortsch (Russian beet soup) and kharcho (Georgian lamb soup). Among entrees, we ordered meat crepes and shashlik (pork kebab), with pickled cabbage as a side. As a desert, my husband tried traditional Russian Napoleon cake. Everything mentioned was mouth-watering. So... let yourself discover Russian cuisine! If you are still not sure, there is a variety of burgers to choose from. And finally, the restaurant's motto is: "We don't serve fast food, we serve good food as fast as we can", and I can't agree more.

Recommended by our hosts at the Copper Moose B&B in Kenny Lake. Try the Machanka, a skillet of shredded potatoes covered in cheese, roast beef, smoked sausage, ham, red peppers and onions.

For dinner, we had the machanka, the Russian hot pot, shashlyk (pork skewers), and a traditional Russian beet soup.

The Caboose sandwich (portobello mushroom) was great. Generous amount of vegetables and cheese. Fries were fries. Nice crispy pickle spear served with it. Hubby had the cheese quesadilla and there was nothing special about it. Guacamole with it was rather bland. He enjoyed his wings though. The White Golden Rush (alcoholic beverage) was yummy. Prices were pretty par for the course for Alaska. If you get there early enough you can order from the full dining room menu.

There are some older reviews that paint it as a glorified motel but they've obviously upped their game. It's not the Ritz Carlton but it is clean and cared for and pretty damn posh for the middle of nowhere. The decor is lodge chic, the rooms are up to date, and there are several dining options. The food in all the venues is remarkably well priced for anywhere in Alaska, much less a lodge in the middle of nowhere with a captive audience. The food was good across the board, not amazing, but nothing to turn your nose up at. There are not a lot of activities but you can keep busy if you want or just chill in the amazing lobby with the million dollar view of the Wrangell Mountain range. The staff at the desk, in the dining venues, and throughout the property were pleasant and helpful

The room gets hot, I called down to ask for a fan. They have none. The window was wide open but had to keep the door open for cross breeze. (I am not sleeping with the door open) There is a bar next door which gets loud. There are no black out shades for 20hrs of sure light light. Bring some eye masks. Sound travels really well outside and in your window. You can hear people whisper outside. But cars driving by sound extra loud and will wake you up at night. Staff seems friendly. Check in was very easy just a confirmation and swipe of credit card. This place is pricey in the summer time. Which is understandable; but breakfast is included. Which helps digest the higher cost. Breakfast options: Eggs (any way) Wheat or white toast Meat: bacon, sausage, reindeer sausage. This place is special as it's only open 3 months out of the year with lots of history. This building was formerly a morgue and a brothel. The owner is very friendly. This is a very solid option to stop by and get some sleep (if you are not a light sleeper) and move on the road.

Everyone got something of everything from the menu and each plate came out at a different time and was lukewarm and tasteless. Like even the toast. How??? I got the snow crab cake bene and all I could taste was breadcrumbs. I thought maybe it's because it's in a small town, out of the way, but fishing season was starting so you'd think this place would have had it down by now. Wake up! Winter's over. Oh well. I'd been here last time I was through and it wasn't very memorable so next time I will try someplace new. Would pass up next time.

The Lake Louise Lodge does not respond to email inquiries for rates, you need to call. We checked in at night, and the bar was bustling. There were lots of people dancing to live music, there was not a single mask in sight. This should terrify most but, sadly, masks have been made political by people that trust politicians more than they trust scientists. We got Room #2, dubbed "Old Timers". It bordered the kitchen and was really loud, great for me (I'm a sound sleeper), but probably not for the average Old Timer. There was a sauna in the room, with instructions. It would've been a great respite from the -20 temps outside. But it was stuffed with supplies, and looks like it hasn't been used in years. Maybe take down the sauna instructions, then? The room was $131.25, including taxes. It was a warm room to stay in, with a private bathroom. But that's about it. On the plus side, this is probably the darkest place within a 3 hour drive of Anchorage (in fact, I found it by looking at a light pollution map of Alaska). And we were lucky enough to catch an absolutely incredible northern lights show!
