I've been coming to this office for years now, but recently my mom who's 88 needed a filling and it was a bit of an emergency. Dr. Ambus was amazing and made room for my mom. My mother hasn't had the best experience with dentists in the past and was just elated with Dr. A and her staff. She just kept saying "They are sooo nice" and "explained everything to me"... which is very important when you're elderly and can't hear all that great. Its been a year since I started coming here. I've been literally bouncing from one dentist to another to find something I really liked. This office is great, it's right off the freeway, there's easy parking, the facility is new and everything is clean. The equiptment is very updated and you can even watch tv or listen to soft music as you are getting your teeth cleaned! Dr. Toni Ambus is so professional, kind, and patient. She def. knows what she is doing and she relates to the patients which I think is a great quality to have. The dental hygenist Christine is awesome. Not only does she do a VERY good job at cleaning my teeth, she tells me and gives me advice for great dental hygenine. My cleaning took about an hour, and my teeth came out super clean that I kept staring at them throughout the day. I've been to other dental offices before where my teeth cleaning only took 30-30 mins...and I now know the difference from a good cleaning and a mediocre cleaning. Best thing is, she also has selected saturday appointments so I do not have to take time off work on the weekdays to get my teeth cleaned. Overall the staff here are very friendly and professional. I started seeing Dr. Toni Ambus on the recommendation of my parents. They had both been going to her for years and my mom RAVED about her. Toni ("please call me Toni") is extremely friendly and professional, as is all her staff. Yes, Dr. George Ambus is her brother and he works in the same office. Nice....in many ways. See Spencer's review on George. They have recently moved into their new space in SSF and it's clean, well lit, TV's in every office, and easy to get to. I've been going to her for the past 5 years or so and am very pleased with all of her work. On the personal side, Toni is always very friendly, asks about the family and seems genuinely interested in how we're all doing. On the professional side, she lets me know everything she is about to do before she does it so I can mentally prepare for it. I have very sensitive teeth and she is very cautious, knows what areas are worse, and is always apologetic for any wimpers of pain that escape me... I'm a wimp. I recently had a bridge done where the first one didn't fit quite right and started to think that it was something that I was just going to have to accept and live with. But she kept reassuring me I'd be ok and she was right. During this process I had a temporary crown which came out over the weekend. I called their office number which had Toni's cell phone number to call but it was not in service?! Enter Dr. George Ambus. I called his cell, explained the problem and he helped put me in touch with Toni so that I could get it replaced... on a Saturday! (They have since corrected their outgoing message with Toni's correct cell number.) Permanent bridge has now been permanently cemented and life is great again, chewing on both sides of my mouth. I've been going to Dr. Toni Ambus for about 7 years now, and she is the best. I must admit that prior to seeing her, I was terrified of dentist. But she has completely changed the experience for me. She is so friendly, patient and really listens to me. The first time I went, I was so terrified she noticed it and gave me the laughing gas. She told me she usually uses it for children, but didn't make fun of me or think I was weird :) And she must be doing a great job because people always ask me for dentist recommendations (it must be my pearly whites!) and she now sees 7 of my friends as well! One weekend a drunken out of town friend of mine broke her tooth, and I called Dr. Toni on a Sunday afternoon and left a message at the office. She called me back 15 minutes later! On a Sunday! And this person wasn't even a patient of hers! She is wonderful, I can't say enough about her. read more

Dentists seem to consistently have a ridiculously friendly demeanor about them... my dad said it's a necessity since they're literally always in your face. But even so, I usually dread going to the dentist because they seem to harp on the minor downfalls going on with my mouth, but seem to rarely have a positive solution (I used to grind my teeth when I was younger, and some of the suggestions I have gotten in the past have been somewhat comical... like taking breathing lessons to stop my grinding). I recently had to switch dentists because of insurance coverage, and Dr. Ambus accepted mine, so after seeing how convenient her location was to my home and her great Yelp reviews, she lived up to her reputation. She made my teeth her personal mission to get them stainless and even polished down a chip I've had for awhile that other dentists simply pointed out but never suggested any improvements on. Dr. Ambus was super personable and sincere. I felt like I had known her for ages within my first one-hour appointment. What I also really liked was how she showed me everything going on in my digital X-Rays and kept telling me what nice teeth I had (helped my ego, since I know I do take care of my teeth, despite the minor damage done from the previous grinding back in the day). The only times I have been so excited leaving the dentist was when I used to get toys from the treasure chest for being a "good patient" back when I was a little tike. I'm a student and I moved to the bay area a month ago from the time I'm writing this interview. Basically, I needed a dentist ASAP because of a toothache and my insurance provider sent me a list of dentists I can go to. I decided to go to Dr. Toni Ambus because 1)they had a beautiful and "modern" website. Which tells me their dental offices are all high tech and with the latest gear. I hate going to a dental office with just out of date equipment. It makes me uncomfortable. 2)They opened early (8:30am NOT 9:00am) 3)The dental practice and her page [this page] here on yelp all have positive reviews. So I went in and immediately the front staff are so nice! They had me fill out paperwork and this is what I most appreciate from that front staff: THEY DEALT WITH MY INSURANCE COMPANY IMMEDIATELY. I had my wisdom teeth taken out several weeks ago in Southern California and the girls handling my insurance and billing had taken forever to make the necessary phone calls. I was actually surprised when I left my appointment expecting some sort of complications. But the ladies took care of it! Granted, I came in the morning and returned at 2pm for my appointment, but I'm still super impressed. I am truly truly appreciative of the work those girls did. Finally, my actual appointment. I arrived early because it was an emergency and I was hoping to get in even a minute earlier. I didn't, but the staff is super punctual. Those who had appointments with other doctors would arrive, sit for 5 minutes, and then were escorted into the dental office. I appreciated that a lot. Nice to know I won't spend half my dental appointment in the waiting room. Dr. Toni came in and she is like a breath of fresh air. She's very sweet. Kind. Talkative in the best way possible. She diagnosed the pain I was having and explained a bacterial infection from my previous wisdom tooth extraction, and I was in Awe. She made me feel calm and collected and explained multiple times how we're going to solve the problem. She took into consideration my medication preferences and taught me how to take care of the infection at home. One of the comments before me talked about how she says "sorry" if she pokes your or hurts you and SHE TRULY DOES! To have a doctor RECOGNIZE that they are poking you lets me know that she knows what she's doing and she's being very cautious. I AM SO GLAD I WENT TO DR. TONI! I've decided to make her my Bay Area dentist while I live here for school. I seriously got super lucky with her. SHE IS AMAZING! read more

I have been seeing Dr. Toni Ambus for about 10 years now and even though I moved several years ago to Sonoma county, I still make the hour and a half trip down for my 6 month cleaning/checkups. Toni is so incredibly personable and friendly. Over the years, she has made my anxieties and fears about going to the dentist disappear! She is always very communicative about what she will be doing and will give you options of how you might want things done. The office is always clean and modern and each room area has a flat screen tv up on the wall. If you want a friendly and highly skilled dentist, go see Dr. Toni Ambus! It's been a few years since I've seen Dr. Ambus and I desperately wish I could have taken her with me when I moved. It was through her that I discovered that getting dental procedures can be a pleasurable experience to look forward to instead of a dreadful necessity to be put off until the pain is unbearable. I initially selected her to be my dentist since she accepted my Delta coverage and because her office was very close to my home. I truly lucked out. I was searching for a marriage of convenience and what I got instead was a lifetime's worth of true love (metaphorically, anyway). While it was mildly annoying when her office eventually moved one town over, the place on Jenevein is larger and much nicer and, if I had to, I would have followed her to Oakland. And I hate Oakland. As I said, the office is quite nice. You may have issues if you are elderly or wheelchair-bound and unable to ascend a flight of stairs. There's plenty of seating in the waiting room, with magazines to read and a TV with cable mounted on the wall. There's also a TV visible from the patient chair and you will be offered the remote if you wish to surf. The staff is very friendly and professional. She has made a lot of money from me in recent years thanks to my sugar addiction and I've received cleanings, deep cleanings and what feels like a dozen cavity fillings from her. My lousy insurance coverage did not allow me to get all the procedures I needed and I wish I was able to get root canals and crowns during my time under her care. My most major procedures were getting two of my wisdom teeth pulled. Pain for every procedure was, for the most part, minimal. Novocaine is applied liberally after a bit of numbing gel. The gel doesn't really help, but Toni has never once failed to say the word 'sorry' each and every time I had to go through the sharp discomfort of the first injection. She is infinitely gentle with impeccable bedside manner. I've endured so many painful novocaine injections that I feel manlier as a result. One of my wisdom tooth extractions was of a tooth that was quite decayed and breaking apart as a result. The doctor was able to safely extract it in one piece, and that to me speaks well of her skill, to anyone who's afraid of not seeing a specialist about these kinds of procedures. When you get on your feet and finish rinsing, she hands you a new extra toothbrush, a travel-sized tube of toothpaste and a business card with your next appointment written on it. I wish the extra toothbrush was a head for my electric, but I suppose they would be useful if you're a slut who receives a lot of guests. They are excellent at maintaining their schedule and you will receive a reminder phone call for your biannual cleaning. My only complaint would be appointment availability, which has been up to a two month wait at the most in my experience, but it's either been luck or effort on their part to fit me in without a long wait when I've needed to deal with a pain-related issue. The wait is still worth it, as Dr. Ambus and her staff go to great lengths establishing personal relationships with each patient. read more

My two front teeth were broken, approximately 30 - 40 % on each of them, from a water glass in 1990 and were repaired in Chico at that time. For 23 years I lived with a Rough Built Up spot behind my repaired left front tooth... Well just last month I bit into a peach and the Crown fought its last battle; my left tooth shot across the room and actually hit the adjacent wall... I was looking here on YELP about Toni Ambus and her staff an I sure am glad I did!! I was able to book an appointment good for my schedule, they fit me in ASAP, the facility is impeccable, the staff incredible and the cleaning well Exquisite! Two things happened A.) my tooth looks "100%" natural, like a Work of Art! Perfect! B.) back of tooth has 80% less build up and is now smooth. Can't say enough! A+++ Thank you to Toni and the Staff! Hands down the BEST in dental care. I've been a client for over a decade, and I have a hard time imagining going to any other dentist. She is caring, compassionate, and a problem solver. She does her best (as well as her team) to comfort you and make you feel at home, a very highly respected trait in my eyes! She's funny and just a joy to be around, even in sometimes painful experiences. She does her best to keep you as comfortable and with the least pain possible. Very considerate. I recommend her to ANYONE seeking a kind, gentle person to help with your dental needs. If you are in pain and give a call, she and her staff try to get you in as soon as possible, even with a larger client base. She's remained the same kind, humble and comforting person throughout the years. (Often times she will see you quite quickly if you are having pain ) She's never made me feel bad about my lack of flossing, and even helped me to find the best floss! It makes a large difference to feel that not only is she a seasoned professional, but that you are personally important to her. Wonderful, clean atmosphere, comfortable chairs, and a friendly place.
