Eggplant signature dish
Amanda M.

Delicious!!! We had the eggplant signature dish, chicken laksa and choo chee flounder .... Yummy! The food looked as good as it tasted!! It was all delicious and delightful!! We sat in the garden which is beautiful and has a nice vibe! Great dining experience and finished it off with Mars bar cheesecake ... Heavenly!! Would go back again and again

I have decided that someday when I get my Siberian Husky I will name it after Thai food. Saki, Cho-Chi, Pad-Thai. Clearly I'm onto something with this name ideology. I must admit when I was taken here I was expecting to step out onto Gougar Street, which is sort of default when it comes to Asian here in Adelaide. However much to my surprise, I got out of the car only to be exposed with the sound and vision of Henley Beach Road. So, I walked in, I looked around, and I approved. The restaurant was busy and of a substantial size, with three distinctive meal areas: A large front room, a small back room, and a courtyard. Décor trend = On trend! So far, so good. Then it was time for the food... Ok, now I'm not even going to lie. I ate heaps and therefore tried A LOT of the Tongue Thai'd menu. Too much perhaps. Waaay too much. Oh well. My tummy may have been full, but at least it was also happy! Some of my favourites on the menu included the Thai beef salad, red beef curry and the shrimp-less (Yay) Pad-Thai. It's true that these options were enough to keep me devouring happily, however! It then got even better. A few words of advice for your order: The eggplant dish AND the mango chicken yellow curry (check the specials menu). O.M.G. The latter especially was heavenly refreshing, especially in the height of the Australian Summer. It was simply -dare I say it- orgasmic! It's an extensive menu, for an extensive feed. Hence expect all the meals/names I mentioned in the first sentence of this review, and then also expect so much more. Thus eating here is not a task designed for the weak! ESPECIALLY if you get a raw chilli in your serving like a couple of my friends did. Poor souls. Lastly, some words from the Dalai Lama, which were conveniently written on the wall behind my table, entitled instructions for life: "Take into account that great love and great achievement includes great risk." Summing up, Tongue Thai'd is putting the rad in RADelaide. Fo Sho!

Had my 20th bday function here last year and revisited here tonight, it's so good to be back. Food is amazeballs as always and my personal fav is the CHOO CHEE BARRAMUNDI and SOFT SHELL CRAB. I am normally not a massive fan of Thai curries but I found the red duck lychee special is surprisingly yummy. Services are genuine and detail oriented. I've been to heaps Thai restaurants in Adelaide and Tongue Thai'd is definitely top notch and stands out so much with its fabulous food, quirky interior and heartwarming services. If u are in mild end area by any chance, I would totes recommend this hidden gem on Henley beach rd.

Laksa, green curry chicken... Best in Adelaide!

I haven't been to many excellent Thai places in Adelaide - after living in Darwin I am a little…read morepicky with my Thai/Malaysian/Indonesian food. Mekong Thai is pretty great - none of the syrupy, tasteless, oily stuff you might get at mediocre Thai restaurants. The frontage is quite distinctive - gated off by an curlicued iron gate. There is outdoor seating, a nice tiled pergola section with wooden seating and then the indoor area. The decor itself is a little old - nothing special. The service is very friendly and not too invasive. And if you're not eating socially, there is a great big pile of magazines - National Geographics and woman's mags. You can get takeaway here - it isn't super fast - but it is very cheap at lunch time. Eating in is just as good, but a little bit more expensive, especially at dinner. Some of my favourite dishes: tom yum soup (tangy and fresh), beef rendang, massamun (not too sweet, which I hate), and the chicken larb salad. If you're vegetarian, they offer an equally delicious and extensive vegetarian menu - I'd recommend the pad thai.

It was another Wednesday night, and for me that means dinner and drinks before a night of salsa…read moredancing at Casablabla. My friends set me a challenge, find somewhere near Hindley street - not too heavy on price and another friend had a craving for laksa. So then I thought, why not try Mekong Thai, it seem to tick all the right boxes? So after work, my colleagues and I journeyed into town and sat down to peruse the menu, it had your typical Malaysian/Thai dishes but I already knew what I wanted. My friend and I ordered the seafood laksa and my other friend had the pad thai. For a Wednesday night it was fairly busy, there were groups still in work gear, couples and tourists staying at nearby accommodation. You can choose to sit alfresco style in the outdoor area or sit inside and watch the chefs cook your meal through the open view screen. Just a note that if you choose to sit in the outdoor area, yes you can enjoy some people watching but beware the colourful characters down Hindley street might heckle a innocent restaurant patron! We weren't in any particular hurry but it did seem to take an awful long time before our meals arrived. One of my pet peeves is when meals do not come out together and you urge your friends to start their meal while you awkwardly watch them eat. My friend had half eaten her pad thai when our seafood laksa came out, it looked tasty enough but that was the only good thing to report. The taste just wasn't up to scratch. It was way too sweet, there was more beansprouts then noodles, the soup was thin and wait - where was my seafood? I fished around and only scooped out some chicken pieces. My companion returned her laksa back to add some seafood but I ate mine as I had already waited long enough and I was hungry. To be fair, the owner was very apologetic, he explained they had a new chef in training and throughout our dining experience and he was very attentive to our table. However the total service and food experience wasn't the best I've experienced but maybe that just wasn't a good night for them.
