Tom seems to be a popular Brighton name: with a bar in town and this brilliant sandwich shop just into Hove, Toms all over must be very pleased by their representation across Brighton!
In all seriousness, Tom's Sandwich Shop is a wonderfully good sandwich deli, offering really upmarket flavours for cheap prices. It is a bit out of the way, out on Palmeira Square, but if you happen to be in the area you could do much, much worse. Definitely pop in on the way into or out of town: you won't be disappointed.
Felix, another reviewer above, describes Tom's a looking a little like a ladies hair salon: I was going to go for upmarket nail salon but the point is the same: from the outside it's hard to know what to make of Tom's. I think it was a salon before... they probably should have done something to the shopfront, as most people just walk past: a real shame, as these are some of the best sandwiches available in town.
Tom's seems to specialise in amazing sauces. Sounds a bit weird, but they have some excellent mustards, ketchups and the like, and all of their sandwiches are greatly enhanced by these tasty little bits and pieces. This is also where the deli-aspect of Tom's comes in: they do sell all of their little pots of sauce as well, and I recommend them over any supermarket brand: for just a little more, you can get some subtle and better flavours.
For all of your sandwich needs, Tom's is more than available, but more than a little out of the way. It's a shame, as there is so much to be said for Tom's quality and value-for-money, it just doesn't seem worth going all the way out of town for a sandwich. Still, the people who work in the area seem to get their fair share... If you're in the area, give it a go! read more
