Do not trust Toms Concrete LLC or Brady Cartwright with your concrete projects.
This is my second time reviewing this contractor. I am not one who normally blasts local business on social media however in this instance I feel that I must do the right thing because it's the right thing to do.
No one should ever have to experience what I have unfortunately experienced with this local contractor. I think it is very important that we as consumers exercise our right to review business methods/practices in effort to protect future consumers from experiencing the unfortunate results that I have had to experience.
Back in May (2024) I shared my first review of Toms Concrete LLC and Brady Cartwright.
I purchased my new home in May of 2024 and hired Toms Concrete and Brady to complete my concrete driveway, patio, and concrete slab for my outdoor shed.
This was my first experience with hiring a professional contractor. The company did not get a permit when my project was started, resulting in Village of Harrison officials and a police officer showing up at my residence and implementing a stop work order at the beginning of my project. Taking out a building permit is part of the duties of a professional dwelling contractor. Not only did this cause delay in my project, but also costed me hundreds of additional dollars to pay for permits and late permit fees.
The crew had complete disregard for my property, leaving their personal garbage (energy drink cans, wrappers, and general construction garbage ) all over my property. The crew also damaged my utility shed by putting forklift prongs though the doors of my shed. No one reported this damage. Only when I discovered the damage myself and confronted the contractor was this acknowledged. To fix this the contractor used some scrap wood off the back of his truck and put together a makeshift door which does not fit properly and is not the same quality as the previous door.
In the middle of the project the crew decided to take a 12 day break without communicating this. I had to reach out to one of the crew workers (Brady) to inquire about the status of my project and whether or not they intended to complete the work. In the meantime my yard was littered in garbage which I had to clean myself during the Memorial Day Holiday weekend.
The crew used forklifts to move a small utility shed and carport to a different location on my property. They left my property with thousands of dollars' worth of landscaping damage. I asked the owner several times about my lawn/property and was ensured that this would be repaired. Rather than repairing the damage I received a text message from the owner stating "we did the best that we could." I additionally sent the owner estimates that I had gotten for lawn rolling etc. Nothing was ever done. I was left responsible for all of the landscaping repairs.
After leaving reviews on YELP, social media, and the BBB I received threatening messages from both the owner and his wife. The company never offered to resolve any of my concerns.
I paid 13,500 for this work.
Fast forward now to current. It has only been 9 months since my band new concrete driveway has been installed. The concrete is already cracking - there are HUGE cracks in areas of the driveway and they are spreading.
Not only did I pay 13,500 for this work to be completed properly, but have also had to dish out thousands of extra dollars to repair the damage created by this contractor.
And now it seems I will have to pay all over again to repair the driveway that clearly was not properly installed. I have owned my new home for less than one year and this has been my unfortunate experience as a new resident in the Fox Cities area.
It is my hope to spread the message so that no one else has to suffer the same unfortunate experience.
