I saw Owner's reply and found out two things. 1. Owner's Lie. The owner said ' as explained during phone conversations ..' But truth is there was no explain, This is what exactly i asked 'did you charge 5.1 Qt for 6Qt price?' and the owner said "yes" that was it, no explain. after i heard only ' yes' with following silence, i said 'ok thank you' and hang up. 2. Owner should try to fine where the negative reviews are coming from, before complaining negative review accusing their business. My parents love your shop, they went there for at least 7~8 years I feel bad for last few days after 1star review i left. this is wasting both of our time. This does not get us any profits. I actually came here to delete my review today. But instead here I am again wasting time, after reading your inaccurate reply. i used go oil change here and there, and i been one place charge 6Qt price for 5.4Qt. Some other place get me back the left over oils for next time. Some place use leftover for next customer and charge them for only 5Qt. they are all different. However you operates, its your business, but, charging 6Qt prices for little over 5Qt will keep accusing your business in long term, not the reviews. i wish i can come back and change rating anytime soon. read more

We both were loyal customers for over 20 years at former Kim's Auto. Kim's Auto had Smog check as well as autoshop. We always went there for repair, engine oil, and smog check. Finally changed the new ownership as Tom's Auto. But they don't do smog check. We went there after our brunch in HB and found the battery of my hubby's car was almost dying. We called AAA service and decided to check the battery and check engin light by specialist at Tom's Auto where the location was so close from Bella Terra mall. The new owner, Tommy checked the battery and he immediately told us we needed to replace the new battery, 7 years old and the alternator. Big surprise!! I couldn't believe I saw the familiar faces. I was so happy to meet the same mechanics we knew each other for years at Kim's Auto. We had to wait at least 3 hours until they replaced the new part, the battey. We decided to discover a new mall opened 5 years ago on Beach Blvd. We found a great mall called Rodeo 39. Looks like LBX hangar vibes. We really enjoyed drinking new great beers at PAVO craft brewery inside Rodeo 39. We could spend there without stress. We got back to Tom's about 3 hours later, two mechanics were still working on the alternator of a car. We waited for about 30 mins, everything was done. We checked w Tommy to make sure everything was good. This was the 1st visit since the ownership was changed. We were confident about the service. Thank you! Tommy and korean mechanic!! I had battery issue so I called former Kim's auto, I mean Tom's Auto now after I found something was not right in my car. My wife and I always go to Kim's auto for over 20 years for the regular maintenance, smog check, and etc. Finally Kim retired this year, I was wondering about Tom's auto, a new ownership. I went there to check my car and met Tommy, a new owner, he checked the battery and told me to replace a new battery as well as alternator. My battery was way overdue about 7 years since Kim replaced. That is why I heard loud noise, shaky feeling and abs alert light on. I felt relaxed after I met Tommy, especially korean mechanic we've known for years at Kim's auto. Nothing changed except the new owner, the other mechanics were same. We waited for about 3 hours in Rodeo 39 near autoshop. We discovered a new brewery, other restaurants, and etc. Finally the car was ready to go. I double checked w Tommy to make sure everything. I've been coming here for all my car maintenance issues for many years. Mr. Kim has been doing this business for many many years and even earned a Yelp acknowledgment several years ago. His shop is small and very humble but the business is booming! He is a very honest person that won't scam you for unnecessary repairs. My uncle first introduced me to this place because they go to this huge church in Orange County together. He always took very good care of my car and I do not trust anyone else besides him. Since he is not close to where I live, it is hard for me to get an oil change. You have to take your car in by 6 AM. Otherwise you will be waiting for couple of hours. That is how busy it gets here so plan to drop off your vehicle early. His English is limited but enough to communicate. I give him 5 solid stars! read more

Genuinely kindhearted and affordable quality work! 2018 Ford F150 work truck was making rly weird sounds with the brakes and sometimes even when not braking. Took it in to the nearest body repair shop and they kept calling to add new repairs and replacements (including the air filter, of course) and in the end tried charging $1,400 for just the leaking strut in front and damaged shock needing replacements. Before moving forward, we wanted to get a second opinion and my mom used to come here all the time, so we tried it! Gave Kim's Auto a call and right away, it was already a different experience. He was very kind, asked specific questions and literally kept us posted throughout the repair process, texting photos and providing options of what we want done. In the end, the replacements/repairs was almost half of the original estimate the other shop gave and they did a perfect job - work truck been through hell but felt good as new leaving the lot! DO NOT COME HERE!!! Just like all the other reviews said. The owner is rude and a real jerk. We came here because my mom's car unexpectedly broke down and this was the nearest place. While we had her car there we asked for an oil change and when I asked what kind of oil he was using (because her car required fully synthetic) he showed me some brand I never heard of. When I asked if he could use mobile one he got angry and asked me to never come back to his shop, which I will gladly oblige. Came in today late before closing and asked Mr Kim if can fix my AC, and said he can work with me till close. He did diagnostics to see what was going on, said there's air mixed in with the Freon. Released the air and recharged the Freon. His service is the best I've ever had, very honest and knows what they're doing. Highly recommend! read more

My dad comes here all the time and idk why but I Took my car here for an oil pan replacement and came out with a broken throttle body. They tried to fix it but couldn't. The owner Kim or whoever he is is very unprofessional. Since he couldn't figure out how to fix it he gives me the machine and told me to play with it. I called my dad because I couldn't believe he told me to pretty much figure it out my self. Since then I haven't and will never come back to this place. I do some of my own repairs right at my own garage. But when I do have repairs that's out of my own capabilities, I come right here. I came here for brake repairs. I can do my own brakes, but I don't have a $7,000 rotor resurfacing machine so I come here. =) And next week I plan to come to get my suspension replaced. I've been coming to Kim's over the years (8 years) and all I can say is that from my own experience, he's trustworthy. Everyone wants a trustworthy mechanic. His knowledge of car repair is pretty extensive. If you describe a problem with the car, he pretty much knows the problem right there. But even as knowledgeable he is, he takes a look at the problem himself and confirms it after he comes from driving the car. As the other reviews stated, the newer building has a bigger waiting area than the previous location. Definitely not a old gas station. Waiting room and the office is not connected to the service building as the previous location, so it's not as loud as it was before. There's cold/hot water dispenser and the coffee is self-serve. A television and a computer connected to the internet and wireless internet is available for whoever is waiting for their car to be fixed. The restrooms here at this new location is much more cleaner than the previous location. The ladies' room, I don't know because I have no business in there. haha. I've talked to the workers here including Mr. Kim and they are all friendly. They like this place because their workspace got much larger than before. (A happy worker is a good worker right?). But they do say, with the amount of customers that come, the parking area can get a bit cramped. One thing you have to keep in mind, is that they get pretty busy! Bigger repairs obviously take longer than a simple oil change and adding to that, there are a lot of customers waiting. Great place. Trustworthy mechanics. =) One tip: If a place is busy, it usually means it's a trustworthy place. A repair shop's business indicates their trustworthiness and prices. If a place is initially busy because of their sales but their customer traffic dies in the long run, then it indicates couple things. The place is ripping people off and most likely making repairs that isn't needed. Customers aren't dumb. Some may be initially, but people usually catch on to what's going on. So like almost everything in life, "give a place time." So if a repair shop has been around for a very long time, and you see consistent amount of customers there, then I would say, the place is trustworthy. I don't know when this Kim's Auto was established, but I do see a consistency in the number of customers in the last 8 years I've been coming here. So that's a good sign right? =) read more

Short story: If possible I would give this place 0 stars. The owner doesn't appreciate regulars and does not treat customers properly. Long story: My parents have been regulars here for YEARS and recommended this place for a smog check. The owner (Korean guy with white hair) told me it will take about 30 minutes. Since my parents trust this place I asked him to let me know if there's anything else that needs to be fixed. Things that went wrong: 1. I ended up waiting for 5 hours. Every time I asked for an update on the wait time, he said "soon." After he said that 2 times (that was after waiting for 1 hour), I was getting impatient and asked "how long is soon" and he said "10 minutes." If an estimated time given was 30 minutes and it takes 1 hour, I totally understand because things can get busy. But how can a smog check and overall check take 5 hours? I had to cancel half my plans I had for that day. 2. Finally when he finished and I went up to pay, he told me he changed my oil and charged me for it. First of all, I asked him to CHECK if there's anything else that needs to be done to my car. If I needed an oil change, he should've told me first and asked if I wanted him to go ahead with it. Second of all, I felt so gypped by this guy because I had JUST gotten an oil change from another place like 2 or 3 weeks before. Him being a professional, he totally would've known that but he decided to change my oil again without my consent and charge me for it. I don't understand why I was kept waiting for 5 hours and was charged for an oil change I didn't need nor gave my permission for ESPECIALLY because my family members are regulars. But the only conclusion I could come to was that he was taking advantage of me because I was young and look like I don't know much about cars. I've gotten a lot of work done on many different cars, and this is the shop my entire family goes to now. The workers are really friendly and funny! They don't rip you off at all, you'll get the best prices! Also, if you have a problem with your car, they will run a free test to see what is up. Most of the time they use genuine parts or quality parts. They can't use genuine parts all the time if the parts are unavailable. One incident that I encountered: Other auto services told me to come every 15,000 miles for a transmission oil change, but Mr. Kim told me that it wasn't necessary and if he really wanted to charge me every 15,000 miles he could. However, being an honest man, he said I need to come in every 30,000 miles! (could depend on the car) Once you come here, you'll always come back! read more

I highly recommend Kim's Auto for your auto maintenance needs, such as oil change, smog test, diagnosis, etc. In my opinion, service and price are reasonable. Not too outrageously expensive, and not too suspiciously lowball either. You want your car to be worked on by honest mechanics who do this for a living, right??? I think Kim's Auto offers this. Also, the owner (Mr. Kim) gives you practical solutions for your car troubles, so I recommend that you at least approach him and ask him what he can do for your car troubles, within your budget. As FYI, as everyone knows, Saturday is typically the busiest day of the week for many auto shops, and Kim's Auto is no exception, so allow some extra time while waiting for your service on Saturdays. There's free Wi-Fi, or you can sit back and watch some Korean TV if you are into that. Most importantly, Mr. Kim is an old school car mechanic (but, he's not too cranky either), so try not to jump on him with a pretentious BS attitude on your first visit, and he will deal with you straight as well. Oh man I desperately wanted to call this place my go to auto shop. My experience w/Mr. and Mrs. Kim were always great. They are very kind people with as big smiles as they have hearts! The prices for their services are more than fair and even if it's cutting close to closing time, they will still try to help you if they can so you're at least able to make it home safely. If the service you require is not something they can provide themselves, they are happy to make recommendations. My experience one Saturday morning, promptly at opening time (8am), was for an oil change and battery check. I explained why the I felt the battery needed to be checked, and was asked when the last time I replaced it was. He told me the battery should still be fine, and it was too early for it to be going bad. I insisted that he still have it checked and he agreed and told me it should be ready by 10am. I hadn't heard from the repair shop and I had time to spare so I ended up calling at 12pm. To find that the car was done about 10am but no one had called me to let me know. Upon picking my car I had asked if they were able to check my battery and was told yes, it was fine. 2 days later I ended up at Autozone after getting a jump start from a friend because my battery died. :( The second visit I went in because my engine light was on and Mr. Kim was kind enough to take me in late in the day, diagnose my car, refer me to someone and send me on my way safely and even told me what to do should the engine light turn on again. Since he was not able to do transmission work, and his referral was not open on the weekend, I ended up taking it to Ace Autotech down the road. Ace told me that whomever changed my oil, also overfilled my transmission fluid and a sensor was broken. :( I may try to return to Kim's Auto as the customer service and their good endeavors have won me over. I just hope there will be no more hiccups in the future. read more
