(Can you show me the shine of your Japan? The sparkle of your china, can you show me?) (Steely Dan) The Tomo Japanese Mart sure you will show you a TON of cool stuff in a neat, clean, well-organized, fully stocked, and well displayed inventory. We had a blast wandering through their aisles and taking in the sights -hot trays of entrees and appetizers, freshly made sushi containers, noodle and ramen cups, meats and seafood, candies, egg roll wrappers and pancakes, sauces and condiments, rice, bean sprouts and mushrooms, sweets and treats, dumplings, ice cream, and plenty of other things you'll need to be fluent in Japanese to identify. We bought a big bag of stuff for $34 -a tray with 8 sushi rolls and 4 Nigiri pieces, a tray with three vegetable spring rolls, and plenty of soup and noodle kits. I really enjoyed our visit. Their in-house foods are marked down in the evenings, so you can score a sweet bargain for a late dinner.

Fun finds but also pantry staples.

Fun imported finds for the kitchen, living room, and bath! Fresh produce, a lunch counter, but also a quick grab deli case if you're in a hurry. This store is both colorful and clean, and it's fun to discover something new everytime. Pantry staples, including a variety of noodles, rice and condiments, and shopping rewards keep us returning. The imported goods make this a fun spot to find unique desserts and gifts, so you have every reason to come here! The staff are friendly, and Stop n Shop, Shop Rite, and Price Chopper have nowhere near the Japanese foods that you will find here.

Tomo's Japanese Mart is awesome! If you are looking for any Japanese drinks, snacks, desserts, and other Japanese grocery items, this is the spot! I would compare it to a small convenience store. There were aisles were organized, dedicated to teas, ramen, candy, and much more with surprisingly large selections. An item that I always scope out are the Kit Kats. They had 7 different flavors and the price was about the same compared to other Asian markets near by. Another part that I loved was the selection of ice cream. They had pints of Red Bean, Green Tea, Black Sesame and Yuzu. I have a massive sweet tooth so I'm always checking out the desserts. They had a hot bar with fresh Spam musubi, onigiri (rice balls), takoyaki (fried octopus balls), and more. I can't recall any other place that has these offerings. There was even Kona Coffee--it was like a piece of the ABC Store I visited in Hawaii. The store was very busy, but check out was very quick, service was friendly, and they offer a rewards program that we immediately signed up for because we will definitely be back!

Similar to Jason P, I stalked the coming soon sign and was elated to hear it's a Japanese market. I already frequent the doro across the street and kaliubon next door. Just another casualty here. Between so many snacks, fresh fish, sushi and onigiri and hot dishes to go, I'm so happy we have Tomo Japanese Mart on this side of the river. There's so many options and since I work in the area, I'm afraid I may be enabled to get some to go lunches if my schedules allow. The space is very clean and organized, which helped me find everything I need on each shopping trip. There's plenty of people on the floor to help with food selection and to help at the register. Plus with a rewards plan, man Tomo is incentivizing me to keep coming here aren't they? My most bought items have been the prepared sushi, onigiri, and other raw fish. I'm a sucker for onigiri and that eel onigiri is seasoned perfectly with furikake. Every sushi I've picked up is fresh and at a great price compared to restaurants. Don't mind me if you see me scurrying in the parking lot between Tomo and Doro...I'll be here often.

If you visit the Wethersfield @doromarketplace or @kaliubonramen , you definitely saw the "Coming Soon" sign for @tomosjapanesemart for months. Well soon, is finally now. Tomo just opened and I visited last weekend. They're still filling the store and getting all their ducks in a row for the future, but the bones of a very good world cuisine market are all there. Presently, they have things like frozen foods, snacks, condiments, better ramen and noodle options, candy, cool drinks, frozen mochi treats. They plan to have grab and go sushi and other grab and go, as well as a cafe with other offerings. With roots stemming from the team behind Kaliubon Ramen, I would expect great things. I've also heard they will have sushi ingredients for home use. I believe most things at Tomo are 20% off in November. I've tried candy, boxed noodles, gyoza and rice crackers so far. All tasty. I love exploring markets like Tomo. I'm giving Tomo the benefit of the doubt relating to what's coming with this rating, but . . . 5 Stars based upon what I've seen so far.

After eating ramen next door we came over to shop for some Asian food items. We came in around 635pm and knew as well as heard several people say the 50% off hot items starts at 7pm. I had picked up a couple rice balls but didn't think we'd be there until 7pm. Well I was wrong, e browsed so much that it was 655pm before we knew it so we browsed some more to stay until 7pm for the 60% off the hot items. I had enough points from out last visit to get $5 off from points so that was good. Did a lot of shopping there.

Saw the article in the Hartford Courant this morning and didn't realize that the market had been open for a while. It is a well-stocked, clean and appealing place to buy Japanese grocery items. There are aisles and aisle of tantalizing additions to ones culinary attempts. I bought crackers that I had loved in Chuuk when I was living there. There were many kinds of noodles and I found some very nice quality ramen. The people working there are very helpful. This will definitely be a weekly stop for me especially for the sushi and onigiri meals offered. If I am ever in the area after 7pm, I will take advantage of the 50% off prepared meals which all looked wonderful and [the unagi [eel] over rice was very tempting this afternoon!

Tomo's has a carefully curated selection of high-quality Japanese and Korean food products. I was able to find Ceremonial Matcha, Jin Korean style ramen, SHIN noodles, and my favorite KBBQ Seaweed Snack. You can find pantry items like Golden Curry and Japanese style panko flakes for Tonkatsu, along with frozen dumplings, gyoza and Mandu. The store is spacious and full of fresh sushi, sashimi, hot foods, and packaged items! Candy, chips, pocky and even fresh onigiri (of course I grabbed one on the way out). So lucky to have a local Japanese Mart like this one close by.

    Salmon for sashimi.

Wow. I am super impressed by every aspect of the store. The variety is fantastic. They have every day Japanese items and specialty ones too. Their fish is super fresh. Their sushi and rolls are wonderful. They now Carry sushi graded fish so you can make your own sashimi and rolls at home. Tonight they were out of salmon in the case. A person who works there asked me what I was looking for I said oh you're out of salmon. He said well I'll go cut you some how much would you like. 90% of the places which just say sorry you're out of luck buy our premade rolls. Wow super impressed. Worth the trip. The store is always packed. Super clean.

That being said, we decided to check out Asia Grocers today, in Cromwell. Asia Grocers is set back from the road, in a large building with plenty of parking. The store is brightly lit with large amply spaced aisles. The entire left and back walls are lined with freezer and refrigerator cases. The first aisle is produce, some standard veggies and fruit, but mostly things that you wouldn't find in your common store. The rest of the aisles are filled with boxed and packaged foods and items sold in bulk. There is a also a small selection of cooking appliances. The first case that we looked into had numerous brands and flavors of Naan and the likes. Continuing down this aisle we found frozen prepared foods, meal starters, vegetables, ice cream & more. In the refrigerated section I found pocketless pitas (one of my favs), ginormous containers of yogurt, different kinds of cheeses, tofu and desserts. While we were just browsing on this visit, I will definitely be coming back. The prices were decent, the aisles were clean and the selection was great.

It reminded me a lot of the little grocery store inside the old Costa Del Sol restaurant. There were some freebie cheese and cracker samples, and a sweet and friendly young lady there to greet us. We were the only one in the store, and I sure hope the market adds The Grocer to their website and list of vendors to encourage more customers to visit. Surprising to us, was that the pricing was very reasonable!! We picked up a jar of fig jam for $6.49 and a big 25 ounce jar of Fra Diavlo sauce for $4.99.
