Tommy's is that rare business that delivers great service quickly at a fair price. We had a broken sliding glass door that needed to be repaired the same day. I called 5-6 different shops and heard the same thing over and over: it would have to be a special order, they wouldn't be able to touch it for a week, etc. I was about to give up when I stumbled across Tommy's and gave them a call. They have a large inventory of glass, and offered to cut a piece to fit if I could get the door to them. Robert, the owner, got on the phone to explain how to safely remove and transport the door. We dropped it off, went to get lunch, and it was ready to be picked up within about 35 minutes. It looks fabulous, and the timing and the price were just great. I called Tommy's glass and asked for a quote to replace some double pane windows. They came out in about two days measured and gave me a bid which was acceptable. They came back when the glass came in and installed it and did a beautiful job. I realized I needed more work done. They measured the glass and came back and did another wonderful installation. Manager or owner answers the phone as a complete ass as I requested that shoe covers be worn and tells me "we go in and out, we don't care about your carpets, I'll just contact your property manager and enter when we want." As bad as that customer service was the worker installs the sliding glass door with the carpet pushed up and buckling the whole living room carpet. They leave it like that and after complaining about the poor work come back and say "oh yeah, I should have fixed that." Garbage service and poor quality work. read more

Earlier this morning I telephoned Tommy's glass shop to see if they can cut a 8" x 12 1/2" very thin mirror for me because I'm fixing my daughters jewelry box land the lady told me to call back at 3:30 because there was nobody in the shop To cut glass. I did and she told me that they had the mirror in stock that I wanted so I drove down to Tammy's. From the moment I walked in the door the lady ran in the front office had a scowl on her face and I was greeted with the rudeness and then told that it would be $30 for this small piece of mirror that there was a 3 foot minimum I'm not gonna pay $30 for this that's ridiculous I told her forget it I'll go down to Hobby lobby in Katowice Aamir myself and then I was just trying to give them some business while she continue to be rude and I asked her why didn't you tell me that on the phone she just shrugged her shoulders like it was nothing she didn't give a shit. I have never gone into a place of business and been treated with such rudeness and disrespect as I was today at Tommy's Glass Shop. I recommend management give the front desk lady some employee training on politeness and I sure hope their work is better than their employees. read more

Tried to give this place a try... person said he would be there Saturday between 11a-2p but he was a no show. Left message on the voicemail after the no show on Saturday for a call back. By Monday morning, no call back was received so called and spoke to a woman who was very grumpy and agitated. She said no one was around to speak to for info on a glass install and she could not give a definitive answer as to when to call back for help. Why would you hire someone to pick up the phone who didn't have simple answers to questions a prospective customer would ask? Even if this establishment does good work, the gateway and lack of simple response methods will prevent them from progressing their business. So yeah we took our business elsewhere. What a gem to find this place! He does everything but make the window himself, which I'm sure he could do, but all his skills are put to use in repair of windows, screens, and all things glass. They DO install new windows, too. But that's not what brought me here. I needed a horizontal rail replaced that was removed by a tenant after they broke the window. He actually made one that fits perfectly and saved me from having to replace the entire window. Amazing customer service!!! I stop by on a Thursday with a big shattered picture frame that belonged to my grandmother that I wanted fix. The whole process was easy. I walked in, got greeted by a very friendly lady that was able to give me a quick estimate on how much it would cost to get a new glass on the frame. I agreed to leave the picture frame there that same day because I honestly thought it was a very great price. Also the lady there was very helpful on answering questions I had on how I could get exact measurements on a dinning table I would like to get a glass top for. I had a hard time finding a local independent glass business to come out and replace a window in my own independent business. After asking some friends, I called Tommy's Glass in Salinas. Robert, the owner, asked for dimensions over the phone, then gave me a good quote. The next morning, he arrived with the glass pre-cut, installed it in about an hour and billed what he quoted. Then looking around, he gave me some pointers on some basic shop modifications I could perform to help with the flow of work, then seeing me working on the floor next to a scooter, he offered to build me a custom lift platform that could adapt to my current automotive lifts to ease access to my motorbike service needs. Awesome! I've since learned he does much more than standard glass work, a true craftsman of many skills and talents. I think he's a man I can call on for expert repairs and service on other things too, and I'll call him first as those needs arise. Call him up, give him a shot. You won't be disappointed. read more

Horribe we called to get some estimate measurements for a window that broke the woman on the phone was EXTREMELY RUDE this woman is absolutely horrible and should NOT be working with customer service the woman on the phone said that me and my father were broke and had no money when we asked to see what the measurements were she wouldn't give them to us unless we paid her for THE MEASUREMENTS were ready to pay for the glass on the spot and me and my d as decided to go somewhere else and she became extremely mad because we were about to walk out. If I could give zero stars I would, let the story begin. I have several rentals down in the salinas/Monterey area that I recently took over. I have a need for a good glass company in this county, so my search began. I needed to replace 3 slides, one fixed, and a sliding glass door. The 4 windows were all 28x33 and the door was 33x75. I was driving around with ONLY ONE of the sliding frames in my car to get pricing. I was greeted by the owner/boss Robert Haas when I entered (later confirmed by himself and his employees). I told him I needed this window replaced and he said he could do it by today and wanted to take the frame and start without giving me a price. After asking twice more he said "60 bucks, and it will be ready today." Now I just needed this one window replaced to secure the house, the rest of the broken glass was on the garage. I returned in an hour to see the work and tell him the rest of work I had for him. After seeing the work I quickly told him I had 3 more windows same size and a sliding door. I gave him dimensions of everything, 2 vents would be cut and fixed in the shop and the one fixed and the door would be cut and fixed on site. After Robert looked up the price of the door glass @ $125 plus labor He said "Total for everything, a little under $500." I said done deal, gave him the 2 other frames I had, and tried to take my one completed window. He quickly grabbed the completed slide away from me and said "we will bring this to you when we finish the job in a few days." I actually had to insist again that I needed it to secure the house and then he refused to let me pay. I tried to settle up again, and he said "that's okay we will just take care of payment all at once." I questioned this several times, insisting that I pay for the completed work I was taking from his shop, again he refused. This made me feel like he was trusting me in some way so I felt comfortable. But it also felt off, so I felt a little uncomfortable at the same time. So I stay in town for a few more days to finish this off, and Robert's employee shows up and wants to charge me over $700. I had previously informed Robert multiple times that there was zero reception out here for miles, and called the previous night to confirm the address and remind Robert of the signal issue should they get lost. So now I have to leave a stranger at my place with all my tools all over the place so I can go drive away and call this jerk who changed his pricing mid job. Robert over the phone is an asshole...said he had no idea what I was talking about and said to send his guy home he told me the windows were all $80 minimum for the ones done in shop, and the worker quoted me $110 for the work for the fixed window. At this point I'm pissed, and eventually Robert agreed to the original $60 each for the 3 fixed slides and we would forget about doing the rest. The worker could not apologize enough for his bosses SHADY BUSINESS PRACTICES (he did not say these words). Let's do math! $180 for 3 slides $110 for fixed window $125 for door glass =$415 So I figured $85 was for the labor on the door and that sounded like a great deal, several hundred under what others quoted. That would put me at $500 But no, Robert Haas must have wanted nearly $290 in labor fees to install the door and felt like he could bully me into accepting his price. Maybe it's because I look very young for my age, maybe it's because I'm not 100% white, or maybe this guy is just a shady business owner. His worker leaves and parks off road several miles away to call his boss, as I saw him when I was driving to town to pay Robert the $180 plus tax for the 3 windows because I am an honest person. Robert changed his price yet again, charges me $213 and change. This guy refused to even look me in the face when I returned. Just stared at his screen and kept his nose down. I was so pissed when he read the price off that I had basically 2 options. Pay quickly and leave or give in to my emotions and see where life takes this. So I paid and left. So much wasted time and effort in the middle of a pandemic because of this jerk. Save yourself some headache and go somewhere else. read more

Reputable contractors are difficult to find and Tommy's Glass in Salinas is a great exception. Robert, the owner goes above and beyond to provide the best customer service. Yesterday, I noticed that one of my windows was not working properly. After calling several companies, I found Tommy's Glass. Robert, the owner, answered the phone and said he probably had the part I needed - a sash balancer - in sock. I got there just before closing and Robert took the time to look for a sash balancer, determine that the one I had was just fine and didn't need replacing, and showed me how to install it. I asked if he would do the install for me and he said he could do it the following day. He told me that it would be $90. I thought this was a great deal considering a new window would have been $500. He called the following morning, told me when he would arrive, arrived on time and completed the work promptly. Then he ended up not even charging me! After receiving and accepting a quote on 10/8/15 I waited 2 mos for the windows to be installed. Job completed on 12/9/15. This was after phone and emails asking what is taking so long and if they were not interested in doing the job please let me know so I can find someone who actually wanted to do the job. I called and spoke w/Robert, who just wanted to argue with me. I paid the quoted amount and have had a very upsetting day to say the least. Was told over the phone that if I provided the measurements they would give me an estimate over the phone but if I wanted someone to come out to the house it would cost $85. No thanks. I needed some smaller glass work done and I was unsure where to go. A coworker told me that he had recently had custom glass work done by Tommy's in his bathrooms when he remodeled. He said that the shower doors had to made custom and had some challenging design features. In the end, they doors came out beautifully. My coworker told me that I should go to Tommy's for any of my glass needs. I went to get some pieces of glass to protect the tops of some furniture. Even though, it was a small job, Robert at Tommy's took good care of me and had my glass ready for pick up very quickly after I called with the dimensions. My review is based solely on the attitude of I believe the owner of this establishment. I went in on February 12 to order a piece for one of my clients. he measured the piece which was literally broken in half it was not shattered into pieces which I believe was not hard to measure . Went again 2 1/2 weeks later to pick up the piece . unfortunately he had measured incorrectly. Came back today to let him know about the measurement in length being incorrect. from that point forward I could tell that he was already coming off as rude. he offered a solution which was to thin out one of the edges but he stated that if in the process the glass would break, that he was not going to be held responsible and that I was going to have to pay again to re order the glass which honestly baffled me because I did not make the mistake in measuring wrong in which he did in the beginning when I first stepped foot in his shop . so I thought that it was not fair that he was going to charge me for a new piece of glass when in the beginning he had measured incorrectly! I'll agree with the other negative reviews to avoid this place and to take your business elsewhere where client service is one of the priorities. The owner Robert is very rude ! We had to move the first appointment quite a few times, some due to my availability, some due to their availability. Tony came to the house to measure for new glass shower doors. He walked my husband through options that would work well in our Master Bathroom. Within a few days, we got the estimate, were able to schedule the install one week later. The tone in her voice sounded like she was annoyed I had called. She spoke down as if I was dumb for asking questions. I recently contacted Tommy's Glass to inquire about a custom job to add a glass door to one end of my kitchen. The opening is not a standard size so a big box store solution will not work. Wow!! Just blew me away. I got a phone call pretty late at night from my sister. An accident happened at her home and the front window was shattered. She was a mess and short on budget with 2 kids we wanted to keep safe. I told her I would take care of it. After calling several overnight emergency places that did not answer or return my phone call, I came upon Tommy's site and called. I didn't get the mans name but he was quick, and called to just board up the house until we could get someone on it the next day. We were busy cleaning as he came to asses, left to get his supplies,and returned and began working. I noticed he started putting a window in. I couldn't believe it! So caring and thoughtful. He understood we where having a bad night and said he didn't want to leave us without a window. He gave us such a great deal it brought tears to my eyes. After contacting Tommy's Glass and asking if they serviced Monterey (which they said they did) I asked the lady that answered if they could come by to measure for some glass shelves I needed installed at my home here in Monterey. She said that they were going to charge me $85 Just to come by and measure and show me some samples. $85? If my memory serves me right the last 5 times I needed glass or mirror jobs done at my home the companies I used always sent a rep out free of charge to measure ect. Has this changed? Well no after speaking with 2 other local companies one of which is located in salinas where Tommys glass is located neither one charges for that service. Hey Tommy's Glass Get some "class" the mindset that you don't lift a finger unless your paid first is not the trademark of a good business.
