I went to this barbershop because of the reviews and online says they allow walk-ins. Their schedule was actually fully booked, but due to good circumstances (for me), Justin Perrotta squeezed me into his busy schedule. Justin was very nice and personable. He had advice on hairstyling tips that no one else has offered me before. He did a great job of communicating what he was doing and why. If you're working towards a hairstyle, he's determined to get you where you want to be. The entire shop seems to truly care about their customers. I'd definitely recommend scheduling an appointment for their shop. Great quality of care and friendly staff all for a good price. read more

Mitch is the man. Great cut every time. Nice clean fade, and he really pays attention to detail. He makes sure he gets everything right and doesn't leave anything a way you don't want. I've been going to him for a few years now, and followed him to Tommy Ray's when he moved there. It's a much farther drive for me, but worth it. He's never messed up my cut, not once. Friendly couple of guys that run the place. They take their time and do it right the first time. I have zero complaints, however if you're going to check them out, I'd recommend giving them a call first just to make sure they aren't backed up. Update: It's been two years now. Tommy and nick of Tommy Ray's are the definition of comfort and elegance when it comes to their barber shop. There is a welcoming atmosphere as soon as as you enter the shop, it's like I'm walking into an old friend's house every time. There's always a greeting from either nick or tommy and if there is a wait I truly don't mind because of the comfortable nature in the layout of their shop. Plenty of magazines to keep me entertained but, if I'm afraid of missing out on a game or the news, there's always something interesting playing on their larger than life tv's. Of course this comes along with friendly conversation, as you wait in the middle of the shop you're placed between nick and tommy, from which point you can banter back and forth or just keep to yourself. Like I said, the definition of comfort! But of course what keeps me coming back is Nick's meticulously sculpted haircuts. Every time he cuts my hair it's better than I could hope. He knows how to shape my ever thinning hair to always look great (and more full somehow)! He takes his time, and he watches how everything falls into place. Really fantastic work! I always leave feeling refreshed and looking great. I think he knows what looks good on me better than I do. Even back at work, I get compliments on my hair all the time because of the way nick cuts it. Of course these experiences come along with his friendly and affable demeanor. Nick is a great guy and it's a pleasure to spend some time with him every couple of weeks. If you're getting you're hair cut anywhere else you're doing yourself a disservice! After many years going to another spot in town I found this spot via Yelp review. So great to be able to make an appt. Nick was great, $25 cut including razor shave on the neck. Will definitely become a loyal customer. Nice clean spot with a couple large screen TVs with some sports playing. Finally, Finally, found the place to get my haircut after moving here a few months ago. When you move you don't realize how special your relationship with your barber was until you have to find a new one. I have tried all the top rated shops on this list, and they are either run by strange people who you don't feel comfortable around, or they have a lot of turnover in their shop, with barbers quitting all the time. And some barbers that just are not aware of how to do a consistent haircut. Nick is a great barber and I truly believe that he loves his job. The dynamic between Nick and Tom is perfect, They both are good people and I can see why they are so busy, and were rated runner up in Hartford magazine. But no matter how busy they are I never feel rushed of unwelcome. Free parking is nice too. My hair is cut with scissors and the machine so no matter what your haircut is I'm confident you will have a good experience here. read more

Tommy Ray's Barbershop in W. Hartford Center is the best barbershop in the Greater Hartford area. I've been getting my haircut by Nick (one of two barbers at Tommy's) for over a decade now. I've never been able to find a more stylish haircut, price for a quality cut, or friendly and accommodating customer service than I have from Nick. He always does his best to work around my busy schedule, asks you exactly what type of cut you want, and makes sure you are happy before he's done (which is great since I'm very particular about the length). The parking lot (adjacent to Bank of America) is large and easy to access. Nick is always efficient to keep on schedule and I've never waited more than 5 minutes after my appointment time. I believe walk-ins are welcome, but it's just easier for everyone if you make an appointment. Since I always get my hair cut by Nick, I can't provide any details on Tommy, but from what I can see, he appears to have a large, loyal customer base that enjoys chatting with him while he's cutting their hair, so I assume his quality and customer service are on par with Nick's. All in all, the best barbershop in W. Hartford and the Greater Hartford area. read more
