It is nested on rolling hills and a valley close to the river and the views are just breath taking. Almost felt like I was in The Shire and Frodo was going to sneak out of a Hobbit Hole somewhere and kick my golf ball out. Just fantastic, definitely one of the best courses I've played. VERY CHALLENGING and windy. Must have lost 20+ balls as there were not too many people playing so I was hitting repeat balls after my initial crappy shots. So don't come expecting to get a good score because you are here for the views and for a great workout if you decide to walk like I did. The guy at the golf shop even looked at me funny when I said I wanted to walk. Had to earn the post-game beers somehow....

The bunkers are maintained about half the time I've been there, but overall the course is good. There the issues that come with trees but since the average north dakotan has never seen a tree in their life, balls just happen to be attracted to them. If you're coming from out of town, I'd recommend this one above the other two in bismarck. They all play vastly differently to the novice golfer.

The staff are super friendly and the hall used for weddings is really nice. I haven't seen much of the course itself but what I have seen looks nice. If you are in the bar, ask for Roy. I was approached by a sales associate and I told him that I was looking a new pair of Keens shoes. I indicated that I require a shoe with a wide width, and then indicated if the display does not indicate wide widths we don't have them. I then asked he could please check your store to if by any chance you might a pair on the shelves. He told me if they are not indicated come in a wide width you don't have any on hand. I then asked if could order a pair me on and have sent to my house as on some my prior purchases of this brand of shoe, his response was that was to online and look for what I wanted and order them myself. It appear if my sale was not going to be a quick sale or if was not one the youths purchasing back to school shoes, he was not interested in helping me. Now we are told to support our local businesses, but if this the kind of service we are going receive we might just well go the big box stores.

Clothing, kayaks, more fishing equipment than I knew existed, guns both long and short, and lots more clothing. Four different associates asked me if I needed any help, which I did not. I did see some underlayer stuff that would have been great for keeping warm, but many did not have prices displayed and the ones that did were expensive. The store is full of merchandise. Every display is well packed and it's all put way, stacked or fluffed properly. Nothing on the floor and nothing untidy, which is likely because I ran into the manager twice as I walked my circuit of the store. The 9 holes is walkable, but they do have rental golf carts and rental push carts to make it easier. You can rent your clubs or bring your own. This is a great course for both beginners and advanced golf players. Additionally, I love that the shop has concessions. Probably the best part of this place, it is the first place in North Dakota to be "Foot Golf" accredited! Foot Golf requires players to kick a soccer ball into a cup by using as few attempts as possible (combines soccer and golf elements). Very cool Mandan Municipal Golf Course!

So I figured... well I can drive a little... Called out, told them what I was looking for. "Come on out, we got you" I got there with an hour left of daylight. I told them that I was the guy that had called. The guy tossed me a key and said "if you don't make it by close, just park the cart and leave the key where I can find it." I made it a point to be back by close and went in to cover the cost... "Nah... my treat. Hope your Mom's alright." I was stunned. I wish I had this course back home. It's my deepest hope that the locals in the area take advantage of this great little course. You are lucky to have the team and the beauty of the course in your back yard. And, if your reading this and your passing through... do yourself a favored take a couple of hours, buy a sleeve of balls while your there and enjoy an excellent round. Keep these guys going. They are the reason I love the game and those that play.
