It brought back so many fond memories regarding being on campus. Littlefield Fountain was one of those great memories...it's majesty and beauty. Little fountain is located on 21st Street on the southern portion of the University of Texas at Austin campus. You can see the UT Tower perfectly from the fountain. This beautiful fountain was completed in 1933 and was designed by sculptor Pompeo Coppini. The fountain's quiet water and bronze figure immediately captivates you. Water flows around the main sculpture emitting grandeur and peacefulness. Many graduates and their families gravitated to the fountain to take pictures and celebrate the graduates. This fountain was constructed as a World War I memorial to honor UT students and alumni who lost their lives in this war. While the symbolism of this fountain is sad, the beauty of fountain gives hope. Philanthropist George W. Littlefield commissioned this fountain, and it serves as calming place to sit, meditate and reflect. I sat at this fountain many times as a student in between classes. Very thankful for the beauty and calm of this iconic fountain...

It's an importantly beautiful dedication to the LGBTQIA+ community. The painted brick wall shows the colors representing the Trans/Pride flags. It has a bronze plaque that pays homage to the community (referencing AIDS crisis, Gay Liberation Front, safe havens, LGBTQIA+ owned businesses and more). Unveiled on 8/21/26 just ahead of Austin's annual Pride parade. This is such an imperative piece of work for all to experience; most especially in today's climate that seemingly takes human rights back decades. A must-see for locals and tourists whether you're an ally or a member of the LGBTQIA+ community.

This is a 6' x 100' sculpture located along Woodrow Avenue starting at St. John's Ave. It is a…read morefantastic example of artistic ceramic tilemanship. It was created between 2003 and 2008 with help from the residents of the Brentwood and Crestview neighborhoods. Every tile depicts, a family, a business, a school, a person, and churches along with 7 historical narratives. It depicts the history of this neighborhood area including many past and current businesses. Also found within this standing relief are some personal anecdotes that flow along most of the wall. If you're interested in learning some of the local history in this part of town, you should stop by and view this.

Cedar Park is a great spot when you want a break from the busy Austin crowds. It has a really…read morelaid-back, suburban feel but still offers plenty to do. The trails around Brushy Creek are fantastic and super dog-friendly--it's the perfect area to take Benjamin for a long afternoon walk. There are also some solid local bakeries and casual spots to grab a bite. It's clean, easy to navigate, and just a relaxed, easygoing place to spend the day.

Buda, Texas, (in Texas, pronounced "Bew dah") is the quintessential small town as well as…read morefast-growing Texas city. Buda highlights itself as the "Outdoor Capital of Texas." Buda has scenic parks, walking trails, and different signature community events. One of Buda's key strengths is its location...along the Austin and San Antonio, TX corridor. Residents can enjoy big-city activities, as applicable, while benefiting from a slower pace and more affordable lifestyle. Many residents live in Buda and travel back and forth for work to either Austin or San Antonio, TX. The city also highlights its historic area filled with local shops and restaurants. The hubs and I tooled around Buda playing tourist, one of the things we do from time to time. We were pleasantly surprised to see how Buda has grown, It was great exploration of this charming small town.

Although there are more bats living here, viewing the nightly emergence can be a hit or miss because they can swarm out from various locations under the bridge. Sometimes, it can be so far out that you might miss it. You might get lucky though and they emerge closer. Spectators commonly park at NAPA auto parts (free parking) and wait for the bats from the grassy lawn up front, however on both occasions we went, the bats emerged so far away that it was hard to see. People say that they do fly closer by, but we didn't have much luck. What's the best time to go? It really varies. Generally they emerge at dusk, but it's unknown what causes them to do so. Last time they came out at around 8:30 pm the day before we arrived (mid-May), however it can vary. A fun fact is that the Red Tail Hawks have a better knowledge of when they are about to come out because they feed on them - once you see a few hawks flying around, you'll know it's about time. When's the best date to go? They say "Begin arriving in late February until about May...". TIPS: -You can bring a picnic blanket and chairs. -Park at NAPA Auto Parts -It's not too crowded and kid friendly. -Friday nights there are some friendly volunteers that give really cool facts about bats! -The train tracks bring loud trains rolling by. -Headlights from traffic can be a little annoying but it's not too bad. -Understand that the emergence is not a guarantee but you can still see, hear, (and smell) the bats easily. -This place isn't as popular as Congress Bridge yet, but some people say it's even better. Way less crowded and easy free parking. Just no guarantee to see bat emergence.

My hubby and I decided to check it out. It is an interesting structure however we were not so sure why. It looked like a tower, but no other uniquely distinguishing characteristics. The color is a brown rust color, so do very distinctive nor memorable. There was an abstract mural on the side of the building next to the sky tower, which was eye-catching. We were spending Sunday afternoon together to smell the roses, not literally but figuratively. It is nice sometimes, to get out the house, drive some place, get out of the car and take in natural beauty.

Taylor is one of those small Texas towns that has been largely untouched by the urban development,…read morebut that's definitely changing. Just on the edge of town the gargantuan Samsung project is nearing completion ( it even has its own highway). And next to Samsung are literally hundreds of brand new homes that have just been built along with a high school. Taylor still continues to have that small town charm with many small businesses lining Main Street and it's big enough to have its own H-E-B. If you decide on visiting Taylor, you'll be pleased to know that the traffic is negligible and none of the parking downtown has parking meters. Currently in 2026 Taylor is celebrating it's 150th anniversary. With all the growth that's coming this way it would be interesting to see a review 10 years from now to see how things have changed.
