my visit with Dr. Tom Margolis was less than helpful. I am suffering from multiple endometriosis symptoms yet he offered no assistance in managing my symptoms or help me understand how endometriosis is. his bedside manner was argumentative, rude, dismissive, he clearly stated you'll have to just deal with the symptoms until you through menopause as you should know. how is that appropriate to say to a patient? he doesn't deserve to even be paid for that crap of an appointment. If I can find a way to report him to the board as a terrible provider I will. He made me feel less than and completely defeated after, like I'm just suppose to suffer for many many years ahead. This doctor is VERY good. Compassionate, great bedside manner, etc. I made this visit from a recommendation to see a specialist from my primary care physician, and after seeing another doctor that wanted to use a surgical approach to my issue. I visited this office with confidence of finding a solution (hopefully without surgery), only to leave dissatisfied, and unresolved. After a couple years of visiting the office (with over an hour of commute each direction), I got a call today that I need to seek treatment elsewhere, as my condition is something he does not specialize in. While I can somewhat understand that, the delivery of the news by Kelly was very poor and condescending. Why have I wasted years of my time to go there with no end results/improvement? She also proceeded to tell me that my condition that I had initially visited this office with does not exist, even though I provided medical records from the initial physician that wanted to use the surgical approach to my issue, which led me to this office in the first place! Who/What do I believe here? I am very disappointed that after YEARS of visiting this office for what he was trying to treat, I am now being dismissed to a new doctor that I have to start my history over with. To add insult to injury, the new office new-patient availability is not until Sept 15, and when I communicated that to Kelly she sarcastically told me to be added to a cancellation list. After consulting with three surgeons who recommended a hysterectomy for my prolapse bladder and bowel. I found Dr. Tom Margolis . I did an internet search, "gynecologist who IS NOT hysterectomy HAPPY" . Up popped Dr. Margolis. Seven years of miserable symptoms. I was determined not to have a hysterectomy and no mesh. I researched. I consulted surgeons in Southern Oregon and found a uro-gynecologist in Redding. This Redding Doctor did a consultation and promised me "you are in control, you don't want mesh and you want to keep your uterus , no problem. " After being jerked around for almost a year with a barrage of testing. He tells me my only option is mesh and a hysterectomy. All about the money! Got to make the payments on the splendid offices! I have been putting off doing a bladder burch for almost 9 years. Finally took the time to do it and I'm very happy with the results and with my interactions with the staff. We had insurance issues at the "11th hour" and they really worked with us to get it figured out. I would recommend him, for sure. My only advise is to ask lots and lots of questions about the cost, billing and insurance coverage to make sure you understand 100%. Oh my goodness, Dr. Margolis is a life saver. I had a mesh sling installed for wetting by another dr. and the day after it was installed, I was leaking all over....so unhappy. I felt that I had no choice but to live with it. Not the case, my daughter was seeing another dr. in the same practice and said why don't you call about Dr. Margolis he might be able to redo it. I called his office and got an appointment, but really did not have high hopes He said he could help me, explained what he does for this problem so we made a date for the operation. Dr. Margolis specializes in prolapse and treating without mesh - a lot of doctors don't have this expertise. But he is always late like 45 minutes and instead of them giving you a heads up, you just get left half naked on a half bed low table that is super uncomfortable. With someone like me with back problems, this is really hard. And then you only get a very short time with the Doctor. No one took a good history or went through all of my specific situation. It was just - you have x, here are three options for x. Not even a lot of thought into how each option would be right/wrong for me. Aka - don't tell me that physical therapy is an option when I have done it already for 3+ years. It means you aren't paying attention to my case. Also don't suggest surgery without telling me what could happen. read more

I was referred to Dr Margolis for pelvic surgery by my primary care doctor. I was extremely upset during my in person office visit when Dr Margolis examined and consulted with me without wearing a mask during this pandemic spike. Even though I have heard he is a good surgeon I would be extremely uncomfortable having surgery with a doctor who had no regard for his patient's Covid19 exposure risk. Dr. Margolis performed a very skilled pelvic floor and colon/rectal reconstruction on me. I am absolutely thrilled with the results. I was having gas and fecal incontinence issues from a botched vacuum birth (in NYC). What a joy to come to his office (recommended by my Obgyn) and know that even after our first visit I would be taken care of by the best of the best. My surgery yielded excellent results. I was really lucky to have found Dr. Margolis, He was god sent!!.. I have no words to thank him.. He is my HERO!!! I was diagnosed with a RVF ( Recto vaginal Fistula) after my second pregnancy. This whole RVF thing hit me like a bolt from the blue as i have never heard about it before i was diagnosed with it. I went to a couple of other surgeons before i met Dr.Margolis... one did not have much knowledge about it..and the other had a long wait time. Having an RVF is very symptomatic and painful as i have to keep the area very clean in order to prevent infections if not there is constant soreness due to infections.Thus, I had to get it treated ASAP. When i met Dr.Margolis.. He was able to exactly point out where i had my RVF with in minutes.. and he told me that i had to undergo a small out patient surgery to fix the RVF.. The whole procedure was easy for me to process and follow as they have everything in a step by step instruction.. which helped me get through it.. His assistant was very helpful and nice all the time and also Dr.Margolis's staff Kelly ( helpline) was very helpful and patient in answering all my questions whenever i called them. Defrauded by Dr. Michael T Margolis office - avoid dealing with these people: I was referred to the office of Dr. MICHAEL T. MARGOLIS by my primary physician. Before scheduling an appointment, I had asked if the doctor takes my insurance and I was assured that it is accepted. Upon coming to the office, I was confirmed again that this doctor is within my Cigna network and I was charged (used my credit card) $70 co‐pay as written on my insurance card. Accordingly, I have received the receipt of a named charge of $70. After appointment I have received a call from the doctor's Margolis office and I was told that now they figured out that Dr. Michael T. Margolis is not taking my insurance and is not in a network of supported providers. Therefore, I must pay $450 for this office visit immediately out of pocket. I explained that I have asked them prior to my appointment if they take my insurance and only after confirmation I set up the appointment. If I would be provided with the correct information about this doctor not being part of the Network Providers for Cigna insurance, I could find another doctor to go with, who is covered by my insurance. So, I refused to pay the additional amount requested. A few days later I found that the Dr. Margolis office charged my Credit Card which was given to them to charge $70 and instead they charged me $450 without any consent and agreement with me. The office of Dr.Margolis also sent me another receipt with the charge of $450 from my card and explanation of the charge: Code 99205 Complex‐ $450. I immediately objected providing the receipt for $70 issued by the office at the day of service. I filed the complaint with my CC providing the receipt of $70 received in the office. The credit card issued credit ‐ $325. Why they issued this amount I can't figure this out. That means that I have paid to Dr.Margolis office $120 instead of initial co‐pay in the amount of $70. read more

Although Dr Margolis is a good surgeon, his office staff is horrible to work with making the patient feel inadequate. I acquired a terrible infection and every time I called into the office, the staff was condescending and rude as if I was an inconvenience and stupid. They never got my infection under control and I had to seek care from my primary physician. I do not recommend this office. read more

About 3 month ago Dr. Margolis performed major surgery on my wife. I am please to say that she is fully recovered. My wife had this condition for several years but had postponed having surgery after listening to friends(?) warning about possible problems. After one visit when Dr. Margolis examined her, she was completely convinced that this was the most effective solution to her problem. Dr Margolis immediately empathized with her concerns, and explained the procedure in an easy to understand way. He took time to address her concerns and we felt confident of a positive outcome. In subsequent post operative visits he took time to explain the healing process etc. In addition to being a leader in his field, Dr. Margolis's humane manner projects patient confidence. It should be noted that while Dr. Margolis appears to have a successful and lucrative practice in Silicon Valley, he also finds time each year to spend several weeks providing "Pro Bono" service to patients in Africa and South America. I would like to address a couple of negative posts by previous patients. Yes, they may be correct. We have waited a short time beyond the scheduled time because Dr. Margolis has both eyes on the patient and not one on the clock. Maybe that is why we are called patients not customers. WRT to the complaints about the staff. We have found them all (including Kelly with whom I have had most contact) to be very helpful and professional reflecting Dr. Margolis's work ethics. Am writing to add my thanks to Dr Margolis for his work correcting a prolapse issue. After spending a couple years experiencing increasing pelvic pressure, I found Dr Margolis. I wanted to go to a Urogynecologist who specializes in women's pelvic surgery. While it was a long drive to see Dr Margolis, it was well worth it to confident in someone who was going to work on the lady parts. Be prepared for long waits at the office unless you schedule an early morning appointment. In my case, once I got an exam, Dr M. was able to make a swift diagnosis and determine what needed to be done to correct it. I was scheduled quickly for surgery. The first week after surgery was difficult, but then the healing was rapid. Highly recommend. read more

In 2012, I needed to see Dr. Margolis for a massive pelvic prolapse repair. I had seen a top-notch surgeon at Stanford who was concerned by the hospital's estimate (of my surgery and stay there) and my insurance's *refusal to pay for surgery although they admitted it met criteria. (There are details that make sense of this. Those who are familiar with insurances may note a lack of information here.) This surgeon then recommended I see Dr. Margolis, relating that Dr. Margolis is unbelievably skilled in laparoscopic surgery. The Stanford surgeon felt only an "open repair" would fix my problem and did not want to try a laparoscopic option for my case. The surgeon wasn't sure anyone would attempt it; but if anyone could effect laparoscopic repair, it would be Michael Margolis. It is 3 years since my surgeries. (I would need two.) Dr. Margolis is amazing. There were several factors that were very embarrassing to me. Dr. Margolis was completely supportive; I did not need to explain. He doesn't over-burden with data but will answer every question completely, never rushing. He is a quiet man and pauses for comfortable lengths of time so you can process what is going on. Why would I recommend going to Dr. Margolis? 1) He is incredibly skilled in laparoscopy. Very few surgeons have his level of expertise. There is risk every time you have surgery; select the most skilled surgeon you can. Open surgeries do carry more risks so if a lap is possible... 2) He builds excellent rapport with his patients. He views your life as having great value and treats you with dignity. 3) His post-op care is phenomenal. Don't be afraid to communicate with his office if you have questions. I have found email to be the most efficient. 4) I see the comment about Kelly... I suppose, in retrospect, I initially thought she was brusque. She is worth her weight in gold, though! I came to learn that through-out the course of my care. Dr. Margolis does see patients at 3 locations... you could always pick another office... (An aside: The office is extremely busy; he is in great demand. Once you are his patient, Kelly is your advocate pre and post-op and does a fantastic job. Follow her instructions completely - this is not the time to pick and choose. I actually came to prefer her! I wish everyone could be extremely personable and, at the same time, able to exercise critical thinking skills under pressure, but... very nice and well-meaning people sometimes do not have critical thinking skills. Of the two attributes, the second is crucial. Gather all the data you can and include credible patient reviews in your research.) 5) Search and read Dr. Margolis's website. He is an extremely giving person. He believes in charity at home and abroad. Need to be self-pay? He is absolutely affordable. 6) He works out of a stand-alone day surgery center. Everyone there is wonderful. There are no bells and whistles. The waiting room and building will not "wow" you. The attention to safety, to detail, to cleanliness, to the highest standard of care - will! (He also has privileges at/teaches/is affiliated with several area hospitals.) It's a bright, sunny day. I am active, enjoying great health and great results; I owe so much to Dr. Margolis. read more

I had a complete hysterectomy and my bladder tacked up. Medicare didn't allow a 24 hour state so I did a less then 23 hours. My surgery went great and I had no pain. Did need pills he prescribed for the bladder spasms. He has a great reputation, is competent and professional. His office teams works very competently and compassionately. He explained everything he was going to do so there were no surprises. I would recommend his a a superior surgeon. I'm a single mother and for years I have had suffered with serious female problems after my hysterectomy so I had to travel very far from a different state to go see Dr. Margolis I made a big sacrifice as the trip was very expensive and I could barely afford it but I was desperate with the problems that I am still having. And I read good reviews on line that he is a Godly man and that he travel to poor countries to help women with female issues. So I went with so much hope that he was going to help me. When I saw him he just did a quick pelvic office exam and from that he determined that there was nothing wrong with me. And sent me back on my way. I was soo disappointed in him I was hoping that he would do farther testing maybe putting a camara inside me to see what was causing my issues I don't know a real test. But he did not. And to top it off he wrote a letter to my Dr. Saying that I was desperate to get surgery when I never said that. I was just hoping that he would have done some kind of test better then just a simple office exam. So he was not as Godly as I thought he was since he did not cared to help me. And said to my dr. Something I did not say. I came to the conclusion that he is like any other Dr. They are all about the money and I guess my insurance was not good enough. He didn't see me as a desperate human being needing help. He just saw me as a number like any other Dr. He should be ashamed on himself for having that kind of heart. read more

Isn't it amazing how important the office staff is? Had I known before I elected to do this that I would be on my own then I would probably have done more research into office staff or just continued to muddle through without the surgery. Dr. Margolis is fabulous! He recently preformed a burch procedure and stepped in for my absent ob/gyn and preformed a hysterectomy as well, his bedside manner is great and I can tell that he really cares about his patients. Two weeks in from the surgery and I call his office and talk to Kelly, I ask her if this pain is normal, I'm told to take a bath, get a lecture about taking it easy and am given more pain medicine. Three weeks in I do the same, this time Kelly tells me once again to take a bath and I receive a harsh lecture about how my parenting skills need to include teaching independence and self sufficiency to my sick, vomiting seven year old daughter. I then get treated like a drug addict when I don't ask for pain medication but instead ask if there is something wrong with me that I am still having pain. I am told by Kelly that I shouldn't be in pain and when I call to ask the doctor why I am still experiencing pain I can never get past Kelly who apparently has the final say in my treatment. read more
