I used a rain check to race at Toledo Speedway after my event at Flat Rock After After 25 years of visiting short tracks as a spectator I finally got in the driver's seat and was not disappointed! I used a rain check to race at Toledo Speedway after my event at Flat Rock Speedway got rained out. The rescheduling process was super easy over the phone. As this was my first experience I purchased the photo, video, ride along, insurance, and of course the driving experience. The faux carbon fiber photo plaque is a nice presentation and contains a picture of you with the car and a picture of the car on the track. The video is a nice addition as well. The only thing that could improve the video was if they could overlay the in-car audio over the video so someone watching the video understands what's going on on the track. I'll purchase the $60 insurance again because for 60 bucks why not. I never at any point felt close to being on the edge of wrecking but it seems like a fair price to limit potential costs of repairs. The only note I'll add about purchasing the racing experience is do not purchase through Groupon, it is cheaper to go through their website. Also, sign up for their email as they are always sending out deals way better than you'll find on Groupon. I strongly recommend the ride along if you want to see what these cars are really capable of! Both me and my buddy that did this experience were blown away by the ride-along, you will in no way be disappointed! The speed they carry through the turns was far more than I realized. The staff was super friendly and helpful, from the people that signed you in to the instructor to the professional drivers everyone seemed happy to answer any questions and they all seemed happy to be there. The driving experience itself was well worth the price of admission. I thought there was a warm-up lap once you got on the track so I holding back until I was told to left and lift over the radio to let a car by then I realized it was go time and caught the car and was told to pass over the radio. I had some issues with my car sputtering from the start and after being stuck on the front stretch I was able to get the car going. The spotter kept telling me to put in in gear and go but with the one-way radios you can only hear so you can't tell them you're having problems with the car. I could only imagine how annoying it'd be for the spotter if they had two-way radios so no complaints there. After a few laps, the sputtering was back so I pulled in the pits and they put gas in the car and let me go back out and finish my racing experience. I feel I got an extra experience getting a pit stop half way through. I haven't counted the laps on the video but I'm pretty sure I got a couple extra laps when I went back out for having to pull in to the pits early. The really do want to make sure you have as good of an experience as possible. The racing lines are clearly marked out on the track with an orange block indicating let off the throttle and a green box indicating when you can get on the throttle. Holding the throttle wide open until the orange box and letting off the car seems to be out of momentum by the time you're halfway through the turn and if you touch the throttle before the green box they'll tell you over the radio that you're getting on the throttle too early. Understanding that they have people showing up with a ride range of driving abilities and they want to keep everyone safe and prevent people from wrecking the cars, I still feel I had a great experience! These are real race cars on a real track and far exceed the driving experience I had with a different company where I got to drive a Ferrari that was so de-tuned my f150 is faster out of a corner and had to drive with one of the employees in the passenger seat limiting the experience further. Plan on being at the track longer than expected. I didn't get in the car til more than an hour after my scheduled time but it is well worth the wait. You're at a race track, enjoy the sights and sounds and the whole experience! Overall this was a great experience and I look forward to purchasing many more experiences through the Rusty Wallace Racing Experience along with their other company Kenny Wallace Dirt Racing Experience.

Upon arrival there were already a few cars that employees said were wrecked earlier in the day. I purchased the liability insurance coverage and would not get in the car without the insurance. After Checking in the race day experience started with a safety briefing and track overview. Questions were answered and key safety elements were addressed. However some things discussed during the safety briefing didn't align with what was actually provided. I expressed concerns once in the car and felt ignored. Specifically a HANS device wasn't provided and concerns about fitting in the car along specifically my ability to reach all controls especially the brake pedal and ability to fully engage the clutch. Needless to say because I did not feel safe inside the car. After I was done with my time in the car I watched others drive and to my surprise saw an accident that immobilized two more cars. After that crash is I realized EMT/Ambulance were not on site.

Money over people no matter what. I find this a sad statement towards an organization with a long history. I find myself at a lost for words. Why? Because PINBALL! Besides food, pinball is my other obsession. Yes, I'm walking distance from a great place in Ann Arbor and I work close to a modern monstrosity of an arcade/entertainment center. But there are machines I wanted to play that according to the good people at the Pinball Map could be experienced in Monroe. So I made the drive. My understanding is that Michiganders will drive a few hours at the drop of a hat, so what's 40 minutes to satisfy a craving. Egads! This place is amazing. I do wish there were more folks there taking advantage of all the fun. The new John Wick table was there. The colorful Elton John machine had a spot. My kid's favorite Toy Story 4 was there in its animated glory. I regret that I did not drop any quarters into Pulp Fiction, but first I wanted to show the kid the movie so that the pin might make a bit more sense. Machines were in good shape, and like a proper arcade they accepted quarters. None of this magnetized card swipe nonsense. Older machines were $.50. Many of the newer ones were three plays for $2 which is pretty much the standard these days. I do wish there was an attendant onsite. Instead there is a security camera. The whole thing feels just a bit sterile, but I feel like that could be fixed with more pinballers flipping their faces off. It's even worth braving the creepy mall to enjoy these machines. I'll be back without a doubt. Probably much much sooner than one might imagine.

What a nice little stadium in a charming town! With wonderful baseball to boot!…read more The Toledo Mud Hens, at the time of my visit here, were the AAA affiliate of the Detroit Tigers. I'd seen the visiting team -- the Saint Paul Saints -- but it was back in their Northern League Days when Mike Veeck owned the team. Either way, this was outstanding baseball in a wonderful environment. As I've mentioned in other ballpark reviews, I'm a former broadcaster who has seen hundreds of baseball games at all levels across the country. Though I've been to plenty of MLB games (dating back to the days of Arlington Stadium, Veterans Stadium, Shea Stadium and the former Yankees Stadium), I'm still partial to minor league baseball. Sure, I enjoyed seeing the likes of Juan Gonzalez smashing balls into the parking lot and Curt Schilling striking out 16 Yankees (that was in 1997, and I loved it with all my heart), but seeing players who are trying to make it to the show -- or trying to make it back, such as so many players on the Mud Hens -- brings me greater joy. Seeing a game in Toledo was a bucket list thing for me, if only because of Jamie Farr's character on MASH. With such a nice little stadium and wonderful baseball to boot, I wish I'd come sooner. A couple of caveats though. First, I've paid less for parking at a Coldplay concert. Further, at least those lots took cards. (These guys only take cash, but I'm sure the parking lot owners report their earnings to the IRS -- NOT!) Secondly, the hot dogs at this park are saltier than the Black Sea. Thank God I took a double dose of Amlodipine! But seriously, I'd come back here in a second.
