Pepper Salmon Sashimi

First time coming to this sushi spot and I can already say I'll definitely be back! From the moment we walked in, the vibe was welcoming and the customer service was top tier. Everyone was so attentive and friendly, which made the experience even better. The food came out incredibly fast and everything tasted fresh and delicious. The teriyaki chicken was honestly one of my favorite things I tried so tender and flavorful, it literally melted in my mouth. And don't skip dessert because the scoop of ice cream at the end was absolutely amazing and the perfect sweet touch to finish the night. What really impressed me was how everything was just on point: the service, the food, the atmosphere, and even the prices. It's rare to find a place that gives such a great experience while still being affordable. I left happy, full, and already looking forward to my next visit!

Jason was our superior server. He was very attentive, needs to study the menu ... we chatted about the big photo albums menus they used to have. Ordered c special chicken abd tempura. Also sashimi (all salmon) mackerel and tempura. Large hot sake. Everything was good my chicken was thinner than expected. I asked for sauce on the side. Miso soup and white rice both excellent. No room for dessert Sat be window no outside seating.

We haven't been to Tokyo Lobby in years, but we've missed it a lot. We used to frequent their other location in San Gabriel many years ago. This location is tucked inside the plaza next to the Meet Fresh and 99 Ranch Market on Colima and Azusa in Hacienda Heights. We visited a few days ago to celebrate our older daughter's birthday and were pleasantly surprised to see that the interior has been renovated. It is now much brighter and more comfortable than it was years ago. Their menu features several dinner sushi specials and a wide variety of "Boat" options, including the Tokyo Boat, Golden Lobster Boat, Sapporo Boat, Poseidon Boat, Lucky Boat, and Sashimi Boat. We ultimately decided on the Happy Boat for four people ($143.80). We requested no rice, and it came loaded with fresh Sashimi, sushi, a Crunch California Roll, a Rainbow Roll, and a Salmon Roll. The meal also included soup and salad for everyone (note: there is a two-order minimum for the boats). While it took a little while for the chefs to prepare such a gigantic spread, it was well worth the wait. The sushi was incredibly fresh and delicious. When we mentioned it was our daughter's birthday, our server kindly brought out a complimentary tempura matcha dessert with a candle. We also received complimentary ice cream that comes standard with the boat. It was a wonderful experience, and we're so glad we came back.

I've never been here during the week and am happy there is such a great selection to choose from. There also many promotions for free ice cream or soft drinks. New desserts include Macarons and dessert specials. It's not quite the same as the former location in San Gabriel, but fairly close in quality.

I came here again with family, and the food tasted good as usual. There was parking nearby, and we got seated immediately. The facades at the Hacienda Center got renovated, and Tokyo Lobby modernized its own interior space. As such, the booths and flooring don't have darkened wood anymore. No longer having a retro feel reminiscent of the time during its establishment in 1979, the restaurant now has lighter wood flooring and new tables. I got a lunch combination with eight California roll pieces and chicken teriyaki ($17.95). We also shared a salmon skin roll ($7.95), which consisted of four big pieces. Initially, I got mixed tempura instead of chicken teriyaki, but they made the switch in a few minutes. The bento included salad, rice, and miso soup. You get plenty of rice, and the California rolls were big. The sliced skin-on chicken thighs tasted juicy and not too sweet from the teriyaki sauce. The salmon skin in the rolls had a strong flavor with sliced cucumber. It was intimidating to eat in one bite.

Have been eating here for ages and it always hits the spot if I'm looking for Americanized Japanese food. Service is always friendly and the food comes out quickly. I usually order the special bento, which comes with a little of everything so I don't have make a decision! The only con? My sis was disappointed the place is now lighter instead of the dark wood paneled seating area.

Ah such fond memories eating here. Been coming since I was a kid. Food is good as always. Nice staff. Really enjoy the remodel, it used to be so dark in the past. Now it's open and bright. Really love the eel here. The boats are fun to get with a bigger group.

Sashimi combo with L15. Six Piece Sashimi and Chicken and Beef Lunch

We came here as a party of 4 on a Sunday for lunch and got seated right away. We ordered bentos off the lunch menu it came with rice, seaweed soup, and salad. We got the Cali roll combo with tempura and salmon, sashimi comb with teriyaki chicken and beef. It was very delicious and good portion. My two complaints is the parking lot is in a big plaza with lots of parking but it's busy! So prepare for that. Service was good but slow.

Love Tokyo Lobby, haven't had it since I was a teen and it's still just as good as I remember! Has definitely had some remodeling done. Space is more modern now and the staff here are so kind. Sashimi was delicious and fresh, tempura not oily, and teriyaki has always had a perfect balance of sweet (not too sweet) and savory! As soon as I took that nostalgic bite of the teriyaki beef it brought me right back to coming as kid! 1 of 2

Couldn't chew the tuna :( yuck.

Eeek. Quality has been going down. We ordered some nigiri the last time we were here and my daughter couldn't even chew the tuna piece as it was so hard. Bento boxes are still ok, but I am weary about the fish options.

Teriyaki Chicken, Teriyaki Beef, and Tempura
Ryan S.

I've been looking for quality teriyaki chicken/beef in this area, and this place really fulfilled my craving. I ordered the teriyaki chicken and beef with tempura, and it was all really good quality. I do think that the teriyaki sauce is a little sweet, so having all of the meat in the sauce does get a little overwhelming. The staff let me know I could order the sauce on the side next time, so that is also an option. The staff here are friendly and my food came very quickly.

We came to Tokyo Lobby for Mother's Day and ordered a sushi boat, but unfortunately, the experience was a major disappointment compared to a past visit. The sashimi was bad; the tuna was abnormally red and looked like it had artificial color added to it. To make matters worse, we found a hair on one of our sushi rolls. Although the staff was polite enough to take it back and replace it with a new one, the damage was done. I would not go back here again. The service was also lacking throughout the meal. At first, they seated our table but completely forgot to bring us menus, and then they forgot about the high chair we requested. I understand it was Mother's Day and the workers were clearly overworked, so I can sympathize with the holiday rush. Having eaten here in the past, I know it used to be much better, but standard quality and attention to detail have really gone downhill.

Brian K.

It's been a while since I've been here. The inside has been remodeled since the last time I've been here. It's a bit more modern looking inside. The food and quality is still the same and is very tasteful. The service was exceptional.

How can I make a dinner reservation for 3 people on a Saturday night?

Just call the restaurant.

Can I make a reservation for 12 ppl in lunch time?

Yes I think you can as they have a lot of room!

Do you still have ayce? What is the price? Geo?

Nope no AYCE

Are they still all you can eat? Me and my husband use to go there before the pandemic happened and they were AYC eat.

Don’t believe they were ever all you can eat!

Do you need reservations?

Yes

Is this the same as the old one in san Gabriel?

They used to be, now I really doubt it. The food definitely isn't the same.

In the Rowland Heights area, there is no shortage of spots for some delicious Japanese food. But…read morewhile many people see the volume izakayas and ramen shops, it's actually quite rare to stumble upon a traditional mom & pop spot that makes classic Japanese favorites. That's why I immediately came down to Tamaya when I noticed the laid back atmosphere, small storefront, and modest food offerings. Walking up on a Wednesday evening around 6:45PM, there was a line to eat in the small dining room. But we were seated relatively quickly. Looking at the menu, there were large variety of appetizers ranging from your chashu and takoyaki to tofu steaks and gyozas. But what I was interested in was the amount of different ramen options, curry plates, and don bowls. With so many choices, you're definitely in for more than your typical Japanese spot. For this visit, I decided to try their Meat Lover's Ramen which was $19.25 at the time of this review. And looking at the bowl, I was very pleased. For one, large chunks of beef, chicken, and chashu pork were all on the surface with some vegetables and cilantro. The noodles to ingredient ratio was pretty equal at about 50% noodles to 50% ingredients. And with a soup base that filled up to the top of the bowl, there was no justification needed for the $19 price tag. If you're looking for a ramen with mass quantity, Tamaya is definitely the spot for you! Taste-wise, the flavors did clash a little as the meats all had different flavors to them. But nonetheless, they all paired well with the rest of the ingredients. While the chunks of beef had a soy sauce undertone to them, the chashu was more sweet and fatty. The chicken tasted lightly stir-fried, but was chunky and filling. The noodles of this dish were softer, but tasted great with the creamy broth. And although the greens were garnishes, they tasted freshly washed and added some fresh flavors to the bowl of ramen. There are so many ramen shops in the San Gabriel Valley that get the hype from so many reviewers. And to that, Tamaya does just as good of a job at making a great ramen (if not better)! The place feels cozy and approachable for those looking to try different kinds of Japanese food, the prices for the food were very good in the Rowland Heights area, the food tasted delicious, and the offerings are very diverse compared to many other specialized places. Because of these offerings, Tamaya easily earns a 5/5 in my book and is a place I will return to again and again.

Now that same small fried rice is $7, so these days I usually just stick with the ramen. The interior has barely changed over the years, and the restaurant has stayed in the same location the entire time. What I really appreciate is how consistent the food quality has remained after all these years. I also love ordering their iced coffee every visit. It's funny because this is a ramen restaurant, but the coffee is surprisingly good and perfectly matches my taste. One of the reasons I enjoy coming here so much is the atmosphere. You can often hear the staff speaking Japanese, which really adds to the authentic vibe and makes it feel like you're eating at a small ramen shop in Japan. Definitely a place I'll keep coming back to.

This time, I tried the omurice, which is egg-wrapped, curry-flavored rice and chicken with your choice of sauce. I chose their curry, which I've always enjoyed. This also came with your choice of corn or miso soup and a salad. I also ordered a side topping of sautéed chicken as I was especially hungry that morning. The omelet wrapping the rice was nicely fluffy with a deliciously subtle blend of savory and sweet flavors. I enjoyed the diverse spices from the curry-flavored rice. With small chunks of chicken, the dish was slightly more filling. I wish there was just a little more curry portioned out. The sautéed chicken on the side was delicious and reminded me of times I enjoyed pan-fried steak dishes from Hong Kong cafes. Interestingly, the omurice came with seasoned fries and steamed carrots and green beans a slight touch of American cuisine). Overall, it was delicious combining all the flavors from the curry, rice, omelet, and sautéed chicken into one bite. Service was good. All our dishes had a nice and careful presentation. Our server also refilled my water without me asking. However, the restaurant can get loud due to the small interior. As usual, parking was in high demand, but we found a spot close to the north exit. There was a crowd of people standing near the entrance, so I thought we were in for a long wait. However, they were thankfully waiting for another restaurant nearby.

Stick to the chicken, really juicy and tender despite being white meat. A nice little family vibe in a plaza filled corporate Chinese mumbo jumbo restaurants.

I'm usually not a big ramen person, but this place was actually better than other ramen spots I've tried before. The portion size was decent, and the broth came out at a good temperature. I also liked that it wasn't overly salty, which is something I usually notice with ramen elsewhere. We also ordered the takoyaki, which was a nice starter. Overall, the food was solid and enjoyable. The only downside was the wait for the check. After splitting the bill, I waited about 15-20 minutes for a printed receipt, but it never came, so I eventually just took the original check and left. Overall, it was an okay experience with decent food, but the service at the end could definitely be improved.

I've also noticed they are extremely strict with the time limit. For example, with a 90-minute dining limit, they may start asking for last call or preparing to kick you out around the 60-minute mark. The restaurant layout is also very tight. There's barely enough space for parties larger than 4 people. If you come with 5 or 6 people or more, good luck -- you'll probably either be seated in the walkway or split into two separate tables, whether they're next to each other or not. You're mainly getting the better quality meat from the "one per person" menu items. So the advertised A5 Wagyu experience isn't really what you continue getting if you choose the Diamond or higher tiers while dining in. Once your limited one-per-person items are finished, the rest of the menu is mostly average-quality meat. The sushi also doesn't taste very fresh, but it's still acceptable overall.
