Years ago, I installed a picket fence without a permit. Fast forward to the 21st century and I got a code violation for doing work without a permit.
My neighbor was in the process of installing a Miami 21-approved fence at her property, so I asked her for a referral and she gave me Jonathan.
I opted to turn lemons into lemonade and add a privacy fence in the back to go along with the legalization of the front fence.
Jonathan was very easy to work with! Doing work with a permit is a gigantic pain in the rear, so even finding someone that is capable of working with the City of Miami is a minor miracle. If that someone is responsive and pleasant to work with, it's icing on the cake.
The process took a really long time. I think we signed a contract in late September or early October and the permit wasn't closed until the end of January, but that was 100% on the building department and their drawn out process (FOUR inspections! FOUR!!!). I had set up a payment schedule with Jonathan and he did not pressure me for money ahead of schedule despite how long the process was taking.
When all was said and done, the fees and surveys cost nearly as much as the fence! Which is to say, the price for the actual work was reasonable. The new fence looks very stylish and my tenants are happy to have the extra privacy in the backyard.
Thanks, Jonathan! read more
