This is a difficult review to write.
We had an unfavorable initial impression of this establishment, as we were provided an extremely small closet like room for three grown adults.
A European size bed? and a floor cot! You could not even open your luggage in the tiny room. It was cold and unheated. The bathroom had a window with a view directly into to the glass shower and bathroom with no covers in sight! It was beyond ridiculous to consider staying in this room on a "luxury tour" with a luxury price!
After a short talk to our Tauck tour director, he arranged immediately for a room change to the main hotel with two suites to accommodate us. Thank goodness. No extra charges, as it should be expected under the circumstance.
After having a late dinner, It was a small feat to arrange for our luggage transfers from our initial room to the main hotel. We individually lugged our hand carriers over to the new rooms. At first, we were told that no one could transfer our luggage! We were surprised as we definitely could not carry our luggage without injury down the steep set of stairs, across the cobbled and wet green lawn, to the main hotel area. Note: No elevators here. All stairs and we needed to walk in the rain from one housing section to the main hotel. You get the idea.
Our luggage was finally transported to the main hotel, once staff was found to help us.
The hotel and our tour, arranged for our group of 38, to watch a local show at the hotel and then have dinner. I was too tired from the stress and events. But my family and I went to the entertainment and dinner reception. The "live" entertainment was tolerated. This was around 6 pm.
At @6:30 pm we walked in the cold rain, to the main hotel and restaurant. The dinner reception was clearly understaffed. Dinner service was extremely slow. We did not receive our main course until 8:15 pm. One guest noted she observed only one cook in the kitchen!
Dessert was served @9 pm. While waiting for our dinner service, we all considered skipping dinner and dessert. I did not eat my dinner. I tasted my Nettle soup, and nibbled on my dessert.
Fortunately, my fruit dessert was refreshing. The other dessert had rhubarb and a lime crème. I passed on that selection. My daughter enjoyed the dessert, minus the rhubarb lol.
Other than the late a dinner service, all contact with employees were great.
The suites were roomier and antiquated. The beds were comfortable. There is no counter area in the bathroom. Shampoo and conditioner are located outside of the shower.
A very nice chandelier enhanced the room and provided great bright lighting.
Closet was small, but perfect to hang your jackets and a couple of sweaters.
There is a television, however, we did not use it for the one night accommodation.
The grounds of this place is beautiful and full of nature walks.
