In 2022 Dr. Atkinson replaced my right shoulder, the procedure went perfect, I followed his advice what to do and what not to do and had a very early recovery. The incision is darn near invisible and today I have complete and total movement and no loss of strength. Hurricane Ian delayed the replacement of my left shoulder to this year. Of course I went back to Dr. Atkinson, I have learned from people I know who had replacements that all don't go as well as mine and how they were treated by their doctors and staff makes me realize how fortunate I was to use Advanced Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. Dr. Atkinson, his nurse Angie, his office and professional staff, and Ed along with the rest of the Physical Therapy Dept. are all amazing!! Dealing with a lingering shoulder injury, I researched the Cape Coral/Ft. Myer's area for expert MD in shoulder surgery. When I found Dr. Todd Atkinson, I immediately scheduled an appointment based on his experience. His staff is extremely professional and thorough while his finance team was looking out for me (had new insurance and they counseled me to avoid any billing/coverage issues after procedure). Dr. Atkinson provided me with complete evaluation and then recommended MRI. He found bone spurs, rotator damage and tendon tear. He was able to go in and repair everything as planned. Dr. Atkinson performed my total knee replacement on 11/22/19. I have had two previous knee surgeries on my left knee from sport injuries and while I tried to put off the total knee as long as possible because I'm 50, but it was time. I researched a lot of Drs. before choosing Dr. Atkinson after he performed my father-in-law's hip surgery. Why Dr. Atkinson? He truly cares. He takes as much time as you and your family needs to answer questions and go over concerns. He looks you in the eye when he's speaking to you and he listens. He doesn't push you into anything but he is right there ready when you make your decision to move forward. PLUS his team and staff are excellent. I was very impressed when I first went to Advanced Orthopedics & Sports Medicine to see Dr. Todd Atkinson. I was given their information by our Physical Therapist, whom I have a great deal of respect for after needing her help on other issues. We got the surgery scheduled and I must say, I had heard several negative comments about rotator cuff surgery so I was not excited to enter into this. However, going through the pre-op, setting a surgery date and having the surgery gave me quite a change of heart. I had the surgery and went home the same day. I started therapy the following day. I never had a bit of pain and I worked hard at my therapy and I was able to obtain full range of motion within 2-3 weeks. I never did have any pain after surgery and am doing really great. I would recommend Advanced Orthopedics & Sports Medicine and Dr. Todd Atkinson anytime. I will be having them do my other shoulder surgery soon. read more

I went to Dr. Atkinson at a recommendation of a friend, who also happens to be a doctor of PT. I was experiencing shoulder pain after activity, so I wanted to had it checked. Dr. Atkinson first advised I try PT, which I did for 8 weeks without any improvement. After Dr. Atkinson ordered an MRI, we sat down and discussed my options. 1. Do nothing and live with the pain. 2. Have rotator cuff surgery and go through 12 weeks of rehab. 3. Have full shoulder replacement. We discussed this as a team, which I appreciated very much. I chose option 2, having been through rotator cuff surgery in the past. I am now on the road to recovery and have begun playing tennis and golf. I feel the Dr. Atkinson is very caring and is willing to sit down with you and discuss the care required. I believe he is the best shoulder surgeon in SW FL, or perhaps all of FL. I went to Dr. Atkinson for a second opinion after a different orthopedic told me I needed a total shoulder replacement. I knew I needed to find a shoulder specialist who does many replacements a year. After extensive research I found Dr. Atkinson and decided he might be the one. Oh boy, I got this one right! I had an anatomical total shoulder replacement February 2025, five months ago, and I couldn't be happier with the outcome. The whole process from assessment to surgery to recovery was a great experience with Dr. Atkinson, and I only wish I had found him sooner. Top-notch Orthopedic Surgeon I had a shoulder procedure and a complex total hip replacement involving hardware removal. I could not be happier with both results. A family member had a total shoulder replacement, has no pain and total range of motion, is thrilled. His PT team was an absolute eye opener! Their office is right across from one of his exam rooms. The PT personnel really have in-depth knowledge and expertise. Do ask them questions; they know the answers. I asked a question during several sessions and learned something more each time to help my recovery as a result. Dr. Atkinson is a great surgeon. He fixed my left shoulder and I couldn't be happier with the outcome. Dr. Atkinson is soft spoken, kind with good bedside manners and he explains things so well. He even gets out the models to show the procedure and what it involves. I had been needing a knee placement for a few years. I had to quit complaining and get it over with. My PCP sent me to Dr. Atkinson. She always sends me to the best. I had my knee replacement almost a year ago. Dr. Atkinson did an amazing job! By 6 weeks, I no longer needed a cane and was back to my morning walks with my dog. Even my scar looks good. I go on hikes and I can cross my legs, something I couldn't do for years. The x-ray tech is a sweetheart and everyone in the office was excellent. Dr. Atkinson did surgery on my wife's shoulder in July 2018 so when I started having shoulder issues, I naturally made an appointment with his office. After determining that I needed a shoulder replacement, his office made all the arrangements. I had a badly torn rotator cuff in my left shoulder(I'm left handed) . Dr. Atkinson did a reverse shoulder replacement . surgery went very smoothly and I started physical therapy right away.
