I am incredibly grateful for the exceptional care provided by Dr. Atkinson. His gentle and understanding nature immediately put me at ease, alleviating all my concerns and anxieties related to rotator and bicep surgery. He listened attentively as I shared my aspirations of regaining strength and rejoining my beloved athletic activities, demonstrating genuine empathy and support for my goals. Dr. Atkinson was remarkably clear and transparent about all my treatment options. After non-orthopedic treatments proved ineffective, he clearly explained that if I desired to return to my previous level of athleticism, surgery was the only viable path to achieve the necessary physical strength. This clarity empowered me to make informed decisions about my health and future. Beyond Dr. Atkinson's individual excellence, I was also profoundly impressed by the seamless coordination of physical therapy associated with his office. The entire process, from initial consultation to post-operative rehabilitation, felt incredibly streamlined and efficient. My experience with all the staff members, including the office personnel and the physical therapy team at Advanced Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, has been nothing short of exceptional. Their professionalism, kindness, and dedication to patient well-being truly made a challenging situation feel manageable and positive. read more

In 2022 Dr. Atkinson replaced my right shoulder, the procedure went perfect, I followed his advice what to do and what not to do and had a very early recovery. The incision is darn near invisible and today I have complete and total movement and no loss of strength. Hurricane Ian delayed the replacement of my left shoulder to this year. Of course I went back to Dr. Atkinson, I have learned from people I know who had replacements that all don't go as well as mine and how they were treated by their doctors and staff makes me realize how fortunate I was to use Advanced Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. The office visits are not the usual doctor visits, very little wait time and you are greeted with a smile, yes even the surgeon with an extended hand to greet me and never seems to be rushed. Last April my left shoulder was replaced by Dr. Atkinson and so far its like dejavu, I am living life without any shoulder pain and complete movement. This November its on to my knees and of course there is only one surgeon for me, Dr. Todd Atkinson at Advanced Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. read more

I cannot begin to adequately express how happy I am with Advance Orthopedics & Sports Medicine! Dr. Atkinson, his nurse Angie, his office and professional staff, and Ed along with the rest of the Physical Therapy Dept. are all amazing!! I have had two shoulder surgeries performed by Dr. Atkinson within the last six years and I would never, ever consider seeing another orthopedic surgeon. The office staff are friendly and polite, there are no wait times more than a few minutes and appointments are run very efficiently. Dr. Atkinson is experienced, informative, patient, and he took the time to answer all my questions. I never felt rushed or ignored while at their office. Following unsuccessful conservative treatment, both surgeries proceeded without a hitch. Ed and the group in PT were extremely helpful and effective in my post-op treatment, and I am now very happy and virtually pain free. I would highly recommend that anyone needing to see an ortho use this office and no other. read more

Dealing with a lingering shoulder injury, I researched the Cape Coral/Ft. Myer's area for expert MD in shoulder surgery. When I found Dr. Todd Atkinson, I immediately scheduled an appointment based on his experience. His staff is extremely professional and thorough while his finance team was looking out for me (had new insurance and they counseled me to avoid any billing/coverage issues after procedure). Dr. Atkinson provided me with complete evaluation and then recommended MRI. He found bone spurs, rotator damage and tendon tear. He was able to go in and repair everything as planned. His passion and patient focus is unmatched and he really does put his "heart and soul" into your procedure. I would highly recommend he and his staff for any orthopedic work, especially shoulders. I am back with full movement within 6 months of surgery and cannot be more grateful to Dr. Atkinson and his staff. He is a true professional that cares deeply for his patients. Dr. Atkinson performed my total knee replacement on 11/22/19. I have had two previous knee surgeries on my left knee from sport injuries and while I tried to put off the total knee as long as possible because I'm 50, but it was time. I researched a lot of Drs. before choosing Dr. Atkinson after he performed my father-in-law's hip surgery. Why Dr. Atkinson? He truly cares. He takes as much time as you and your family needs to answer questions and go over concerns. He looks you in the eye when he's speaking to you and he listens. He doesn't push you into anything but he is right there ready when you make your decision to move forward. PLUS his team and staff are excellent. AND the home health provider and in-home PT team he works with are excellent as well. As for his credentials, if I wasn't already sold on him, when I looked up his bio I was really impressed. Southwest Florida is SO LUCKY to have this Dr. in our area. No need to go to a big city for a major surgery. Call Dr. A! read more

I went to Dr. Atkinson at a recommendation of a friend, who also happens to be a doctor of PT. I was experiencing shoulder pain after activity, so I wanted to had it checked. Dr. Atkinson first advised I try PT, which I did for 8 weeks without any improvement. After Dr. Atkinson ordered an MRI, we sat down and discussed my options. 1. Do nothing and live with the pain. 2. Have rotator cuff surgery and go through 12 weeks of rehab. 3. Have full shoulder replacement. We discussed this as a team, which I appreciated very much. I chose option 2, having been through rotator cuff surgery in the past. I am now on the road to recovery and have begun playing tennis and golf. I feel the Dr. Atkinson is very caring and is willing to sit down with you and discuss the care required. I believe he is the best shoulder surgeon in SW FL, or perhaps all of FL. I would highly recommend him for any shoulder issues you might have. read more

I went to Dr. Atkinson for a second opinion after a different orthopedic told me I needed a total shoulder replacement. I knew I needed to find a shoulder specialist who does many replacements a year. After extensive research I found Dr. Atkinson and decided he might be the one. Oh boy, I got this one right! I had an anatomical total shoulder replacement February 2025, five months ago, and I couldn't be happier with the outcome. The whole process from assessment to surgery to recovery was a great experience with Dr. Atkinson, and I only wish I had found him sooner. His office staff dealt with my prior-authorization, FMLA and STD paperwork effortlessly and his physical therapist Chris is amazing! Dr. Atkinson and his staff made me feel like family and did an excellent job on my shoulder. I would highly recommend him to anyone needing shoulder surgery. read more

Top-notch Orthopedic Surgeon I had a shoulder procedure and a complex total hip replacement involving hardware removal. I could not be happier with both results. A family member had a total shoulder replacement, has no pain and total range of motion, is thrilled. His PT team was an absolute eye opener! Their office is right across from one of his exam rooms. The PT personnel really have in-depth knowledge and expertise. Do ask them questions; they know the answers. I asked a question during several sessions and learned something more each time to help my recovery as a result. Going to Dr. Atkinson was a top-of-the-line experience in all respects all the way through, front office, everything. We are lucky to have such a top surgeon in Cape Coral and Ft. Myers (his 2 offices). read more

Dr. Atkinson is a great surgeon. He fixed my left shoulder and I couldn't be happier with the outcome. Dr. Atkinson is soft spoken, kind with good bedside manners and he explains things so well. He even gets out the models to show the procedure and what it involves. He was very concerned when I said I would have no one waiting during the surgery but I convinced him that I would be ok and my husband would be there as soon as he could. Dr. A met with my husband and told him all the things he did to repair my issues. He is so professional and on time. He cares about his patients and even recalls specific details about his patiences personal lives. I highly recommend him! read more

I was amazed after 3 days I was off my pain meds, little discomfort. I'm in my 60's and had complete tears in both rotators and split both bi-ceps from my 30's. I wanted a better quality of life. It's been 4 1/2 months and I have almost all my movement ahead of schedule. I work hard 5-6 days a week 1-2 hours a day on the shoulder. Dr. Atkinson did his part excellent, now my turn to do my part. I researched whom I chose and his credentials and Love for what he does sold me. He's not just confident, he's competent. In a couple months he'll do my right shoulder. Thanks Dr. Atkinson for your skills and care. Blessings read more

I had been needing a knee placement for a few years. I had to quit complaining and get it over with. My PCP sent me to Dr. Atkinson. She always sends me to the best. I had my knee replacement almost a year ago. Dr. Atkinson did an amazing job! By 6 weeks, I no longer needed a cane and was back to my morning walks with my dog. Even my scar looks good.
