My visit was in 2020, in the middle of the pandemic, and as foreign traveling surfers most locals were uneasy around us to say the least, some places were completely forbidden to us, it was not the usual, hospitable Oaxaca we all know. However, when we got to the restaurant, we were greeted and warmly welcomed in and told to have a seat while we waited, he was finishing up our order. Turns out the owner was from Texas, very friendly and welcoming, kind person. Look forward to returning for more carnitas in April! The restaurant is small, with maybe 5 tables but is exceptionally clean and well maintained. Appears to be a family run business. Everything was prepared to order with the freshest of ingredients. The molotes were the best I have ever tasted, the corn meal contained finely diced potato spiced to perfection with a meat sauce. The quesadillas were on the same level as were the short ribs. If you like sweet moles, the enchiladas are served in a Coloradito sauce which my friends enjoyed. We didn't need a reservation (we were the only diners) and the service was superb (son of the owners?) They serve softdrinks, beer and mezcal, sell a local brand of mezcal and have a tasting room in a nicely finished basement. Bathrooms exceptionally clean. Started with the Querida - Gin, Campari, Grapefruit and citrus. Perfect for a hot day and the gin gets you ready for all the food you're about to ingest. I followed that with the Jugó de Carne which is an amazing broth served with some dices onions and chilies and a bit on bone borrow. If you're hungover this will bring you back to life! It's way too much food, so my wife and I split the French toast and ordered entrees. She ordered divorced eggs (yup a real thing) and I got the omelette. We will definitely come back.
