When I write my reviews, i rate my experience with customer service and the quality of the food. That being said, no reason to give this place a bad review because it's "cash only" or because they took forever to take your order. That's ridiculous. Now if you ordered your ice cream and they took 40 minutes to make it for you that's a different story. Anyways. My customer service experience was good. Very professional staff and very clean. I showed up at 2pm with my family and ordered my ice cream. Food quality: I ordered the CINNAMON and COOKIE DOUGH ice cream. It was Amazing!! The cinnamon favor made my taste buds go crazy and it complimented my Cookie Dough. The Cookie Dough was soft and chew like the way i like. TJ's has amazing ice cream. This is my family's favorite place to stop in OC. We have a house a few blocks away and this place has been our go-to for YEARS. The lines can get very long at night and the employees can be less friendly at times. It can be frustrating to wait and then be helped by someone who doesn't seem as if they want to be there. However, I have also had great experiences during less busy hours with very kind and friendly employees. If you do not have a vehicle and cant get somewhere else, TJ's might be acceptable, but if you have any other option, find another ice cream location. The ice cream is good, but they are never staffed properly. It's almost like they don't expect anyone to show up every night. My husband and I waited outside for several minutes while the employee inside was getting trained, they saw us but didn't acknowledge us at all. It started raining so we went inside to order. I didn't know sloths could scoop ice cream. There were maybe 30 people in line and it took 1 hour TO GET ICE-CREAM. I think I could ride space mountains five times in the amount of time it took to get ice cream. The worst part was the ice cream was average at best. Cookies and Cream was extremely freezer burned. It's hard to believe but the owner is the slowest person working there. Over 15 minutes to prepare ice cream for 4 people. By the time she was done with the last so I could pay and leave the window, mine was completely melted into soup. People we were there with said they saw her doing other things while she was supposed to be making our order - including replacing empty tubs of ice cream for flavors she didn't need for us. The product is average at best, but it's convenient for us. If I ever see the owner at the window again I will just leave. $22 for 3 ice creams and 1 melted ice cream soup is way too much money. read more

I looked in and there were 3 people working, well talking. Customer service was non existent, and there was NO supervision at all! After another 10 minutes nobody else went in. My wife said let's go. Friendly staff and an outdoor window along with gray ice cream make this a favorite. We can walk the dogs up and sit outside and order and eat. The ice cream is delicious and they have a huge selection. Plus usually a dog water bowl outside and a special treat for the dogs is nice. I would give it one star but the ice cream was good. I went this evening for ice cream around 8:30 (a prime time for ice cream). We waited over 30 minutes for only two scoops of ice cream. This ice cream joint has 3 teenagers working with no system. When we finally got to order the young man who took our order had a bit of an attitude and took my order and then slowly gave me my simple order. Then they took my brother's order which happened to be the same order as me. Then he decided to take off his gloves and work the register and have us pay. He then put his gloves back on and gave us our ice cream. Their system was non existent. Worst ice cream experience ever. They didn't close for another hour and a half and yet one employee was counting the money?? Waited an hour standing in line. Looked like the employees could care less that there was a line wrapping around the block. At one point they just stopped serving out one side window. Extremely disrespectful service and manager. One time I was going to pick up an ice cream cup for my friend and on the way out of the store I dropped it. I went back in explaining that I did not have enough money to buy another and the employees said they could not refund me or give me another. The manager came out and was EXTREMELY rude. I was so surprised that there wasn't a review for TJ's that I called to confirm they were still in business (I visited last season). The good news is: Yes, they are still in the business of making awesome ice cream. While on vacation in Ocean City we capped off every dinner by walking over to TJ's for a cone. The ice cream is hand-made and this is TJ's competitive advantage. The hand-made bliss is clear from the first lick/bite. Creamy, tasty ice cream delight. Skyrockets in flight. Many flavors to choose from. Highly recommended. The establishment is family owned and operated, and they are engaging and nice. They are also open late (10:00) so you can head over for a dairy nightcap (or candy if you desire, they have a decent selection of sugar products). The only downside is they do not take credit card (really? in 2011?) or at least did not as of last season. read more

Ordered vanilla malt, top 2/3 was good, but the bottom third revealed giant chunks of rock-hard lumps of malt. I guess that's what you get from having 15-year-olds mix your malt. Granted it's prolly hard to keep malt from getting all lumpy in the high humidity, but that's why they make glass jars with rubber seals. OR you can smash the malt before you dump it in the mixing container. Either way, no excuse for serving crappy shake if that's basically all your selling. Not much quality control. read more

We ordered an ice cream cake for my mom's birthday while we were down for the week. The woman who took the order over the phone was extremely accommodating and helped us make decisions for the type of ice cream cake that we wanted. Their website was very helpful with providing us information in advance so we already knew what types of ice cream were available. The cake was made with vanilla m&m ice cream and I do agree with other reviewers that there could be more fillings in the ice cream. However- when a kiddie size and a double scoop cone are the same size- somethings not right. I ordered a waffle sundae which took at least 15 minutes. The order was incomplete so I had to ask the girl to add the hot fudge. No big deal but after waiting for 15 minutes and you're family is already done eating- you just want it done right.
