This was not the best dining experience ... but because we were looking for a hot dog we discovered the Krate -- an amazing venue where they are located. We came inside the small restaurant and perused the menu on the wall. There's only a small counter inside so plan to find a table and eat outside. I ordered their New York dog as a foot long and left off the onion sauce. So basically a longer steamed hot dog with mustard and sauerkraut. Unfortunately, the hot dog was not hot (temperature wise) enough. As I was already seated outside and had returned the french fries -- they were lukewarm-- to be cooked more and to be heated, I wasn't about to go back a third time. I didn't care for their fries as they are the coated type -- not my favorite -- but at least they were hot and fresher the second time around. My husband had their Chicago dog -- which only comes in a regular size (6") version. It had all the toppings on it, but he thought it was just okay, as well. With so much competition in the area, they will need to step up their game. The positives are that the prices were reasonable and that they give a military discount to veterans. read more

Before arriving at the Krate we had singled out TJ's for a Hot dog dinner. Nestled in amongst all types and cuisines of this food village, we found TJ's. My wife ordered a foot long New Yorker and I had a Chicago dog. The dogs are steamed and are served up pretty fast. We also ate an order of fries which are coated. We were splitting a burger from the place next door and my husband wanted to split a corn dog too. I ordered a Corndog and they said there was a special including chips and a drink. While I watched other customers getting monster hot dogs, I received two, flaccid, microwaved corn dogs. Clearly their specialty is hot dogs, so a heads up that I was getting the equivalent of a store bought kids meal would have been VERY much appreciated. They brought the corn dogs out to me but never offered the chips or drink. I simply walked out. I'll give this business another chance, especially as it is a veteran owned business, and next time I'll order a specialty hot dog. The corn dogs could be a great addition to the menu if they are on par with the other menu items AND served crispy. These were just awful and ended up in the trash after one bite. read more

The place was cute. My husband and I wanted to really like this place. Unfortunately, the kids working at the register and making the hotdogs were a little lost. I felt bad for them because they were so young, but they could not answer basic questions. We asked if the onions for a certain hotdog were grilled or raw and they didn't know what that meant. God bless them. I was hesitant to move on with my order. The ingredients are sitting in crockpots, put on the hotdog and then microwaved. I don't think the kids could handle anything else. I saw that every step they were doing was something I could have done easily at home. Well I bought a funnel cake and it turned out to be a frozen funnel cake out of a bag that they re-fried.... Now I'm not judgemental... I did try it. A simple Krate with simply good hot dogs. They're cheap, fast, and delicious. We'll definitely be back to try more, but for now we've tried the foot long, all beef big cheese hot dog that's smothered in Mac and cheese. Boy, the hotdogs themselves are good, but make it sauce-y and you have cheesy messy goodness. Next we will try the atomic hot dog...lol read more

I really wanted to like this place... I got a military discount also. I got the Chicago dog and the New York dog. The Chicago dog was overwhelmed by the pickel... (If you want a good Chicago dog go to Portillo's.) The bun was poppy seed but seem like it wasn't toasted or warmed up at all. It just seemed like it came out of a bag. The hot dog itself didn't have any flavor to it and seem like a cheap hot dog. Nothing like a Nathan's. The New York dog again had a flavorless dog and an un toasted bun. The chili was cold and seemed like it just came out of a can of Hormel chili Atmosphere was fine the food was just not very good The wife got a regular dog with just ketchup. Checked out Krate today and stumbled into this great hotdog place. They had tons of stuff on the menu as well as all beef hotdogs. The staff was super friendly, they noticed they overcharged me and fixed it right away. The prices were great! Most importantly the hot dog was amazing, I regret not getting the foot long! Best priced meal of the krates. Splurged a little and went for a signature foot long though. The $5 meal on their menu is definitely the best priced meal of the krates. We ordered the slightly more expensive foot long beef dog with Mac and cheese. It was good. Next time have to spice it up and try their hot hotdogs. read more

Visited the Krate at Wesley Chapel in search of a good hot dog . Wandered into TJ's Hot Dogs . Wow did they have options !!! Plenty of dogs dressed up to your likings , from chili, coleslaw, pulled pork, cheese, relish to your plain Jane hotdog with ketchup and mustard . We ordered the New Yorker, the Carolina slaw dog and the smokehouse . Each came in a steamed bun accompanied with your choice of chip and drink . Fresh ingredients, our dogs had mounds of fixings ~ as they were very generous with the portions . We washed these puppies down with two cold corona beers . Kinda felt like we were at the ball park . This was such a disappointment I finally got there to try it out after coming there 2x before and it was closed well still haven't gotten to try and not going back again.We went on a Saturday 1st mistake they only had 3 young kids working the line was out the door but I waited patiently for a half hour finally got up to order to find out the prices on sign was wrong a coney island hot dog was 6 bucks instead of the 4.00 on the sign.I decided that 6 bucks for 1 hot bog was ridiculous so I did order the 2 corn dog special that came with a soda and chips.Well I was told it would be a five minute wait so I went next door to bacon boss and came back it still wasn't done so I sent my hubby back 15 minutes later he comes back takes one bite and they were cold inside.He went back they just gave him 5 bucks it was a disaster and we went with another couple so we never got to enjoy our dinner out with our friends and wasted almost an hour on lines.Honestly this place needs help it was a great idea but run by kids understaffed and yes I know it was a weekend but come on they should know better then to sell uncooked food from now on I will go back to bebos cheesesteaks fast good food and clean. read more

My family and I visited Krates for dinner on a busy Saturday. The three workers present were so kind and efficient, especially with keeping the queue moving. We only got the Coney Island dog because wanted to try the other businesses but it is definitely worth going back for! read more

Been eating TJS hot dogs since he first opened his stand. My dad and I always loved seeing him out on the side walk at the grove! He always offers a great deal, friendly convos, and great food & condiments! So happy for him to open a place in the krates and expand his menu! If you love a good hot dog you won't be disappointed! This place deserves 0 stars!! My wife and I got the Memphis, coney, and smokehouse dogs. The slaw tasted spoiled, the pork was disgusting, and the hotdogs didn't even taste as if they had been cooked. We threw them away after taking one bite. Stopped in here yesterday(7/24/22) for 2 reasons, I love hot dogs, and my name is also TJ. It was meant to be. The staff was awesome, very nice and engaging. very big selection of dogs with lots of awesome toppings. I had the Colombian. They loaded this thing up, lots of flavor. The dog itself was a little under whelming, but its made up for with the toppings and atmosphere, and the excellent service.
