It's was a STRESSFUL,…read moreTIME CONSUMING, and DISAPPOINTING process that could have been avoided had I not been made to wait in the store for over 1.5 hours while the store manager focused on store displays and assisting others. The wait was only made worse as my valuable stuff sat on the floor in front of the counter for anyone to steal. * To management: If you're going to promote walk-ins, you should also let people know they can't leave their consignment bags and give a more accurate wait time. Also, an itemized seller receipt at the time of drop off or a smoother intake process would help. From a selection standpoint, this store has a TON of jewelry and women's clothing. There is a small men's, women's athletic, shoe, and hand bag section compared to some of the other GS stores. Prices are reasonable for consignment, but nothing wowed me. It's clean and organized.

Some items were approved at one visit and then rejected at the next, sometimes by the same person! I've been a long-time consignor but this was the worst experience. Also, their stock is low and not high-end, so it makes no sense that brand new designer items were rejected. I watched 2 other people go through the same thing while I was there.

But I was appalled with how I was treated by one of the employees there. I had been chatting with one of the owners, I think- Ariel? She was sweet as could be and shared my enthusiasm over an amazing eggplant wool dress and coat from the fifties. She told me the price and after admiring it I decided to try it on. By this time, Ariel had stepped out and another female employee stepped in. I remarked to her that it was so beautiful and I'd like to try it on, to which she sneered, very obviously looked me up and down, and said, "well, it only really fits a size 2...". Not that it makes any difference what size I am, but I'm between a 4 and 6 and was appalled at her rudeness. I asked the waist measurement (it was definitely larger than a 2) and she didn't know. When I said I'd like to give it a try, she scoffed and said, "well, it's $250, so don't force it". Excuse me?! How dare she say something like that! I'm not a child who is unaware of the delicacy of vintage clothing, and am not disillusioned about my size- I did try it on and it all fit except for the bust, because the waist was very high up on the dress and I have a long torso. The girl asked if it fit, and I told her the bodice was too short, and she replied that the original owner was very short and petite. That's what she should've told me about the size-I'm tall, around 5'9", and it would be very obvious it wouldn't fit if it was tailored for a short woman. Instead she made it about weight with her tone and comments. She then tried to get me to try on the original clothing line, saying it goes well with an "hourglass" shape, but I was so furious and embarrassed that I left. No one should be commenting on anyone's size, no matter how veiled, and to assume I would damage the garment? Uncalled for, unacceptable, and just plain mean. It was not said out of concern for the dress- it was malicious and very ill intended. I also felt like she was insinuating I couldn't afford it, anyway. I'll not return to be treated to poorly, and that's a shame, because this shop has potential.

However the most exciting bit is the original Earl Salko lines of clothes by Ariel, who is always there at the sewing machine and helping people find something. I bought a dress here after admiring the simple lines and unfussy design of a dress in the window. I didn't have time to try it on, and when it didn't look just right (too shiny for daytime wear) I brought it back and Ariel exchanged it for a more work-appropriate dress, no problem. Everyone who works here is super sweet and goes out of their way to help you in a non-intrusive manner. Joyously recommended to fans of vintage and super-simple, locally made clothes.

Just updating from the previous review. As of June 2024,…read morethese are the businesses down at Pier 70: Home Depot Walmart McDonald's Chipotle AT&T Planet Fitness T.J. Maxx HomeGoods Lane Bryant Bath and Body Works Ulta Beauty Michaels Old Navy America's Best Famous Footwear A good reason to come down to this area is because you're needing that item that a Center City store is out of or doesn't carry. Case in point, I found the fisherman style sandals that I wanted at Pier 70's Old Navy, not at the Chestnut St. location. This strip mall location had more in the way of sandals & shoes compared to the other store. And on sale for less than what I saw online was a welcome surprise. Customer service was pleasant. Finally, I checked out the Michaels to see how it held up to the now gone-but-not-forgotten A.C. Moore. Less selection is what strikes me the most. Naturally, there's way less fine art/painting supplies here than craft/seasonal stuff.(I'd still go to Blick or Artist & Craftsman for more in depth painting materials.) A.C. Moore just always seemed better stocked quantity-wise, with their own brand & others that you come across in other art supply stores. If you have to come down to Pier 70, I'd say come if you're needing something specific that you know will be offered at these kinds of chains. Usually, more everyday kind of purchases. The route 7 bus got me down & back pretty easily.

There used to be an Acme which was also a draw, but it has since closed and remains vacant, unfortunately. I really hope they put something great there. This shopping center could use a boost. A visit to this Walmart is the stuff nightmares are made of and with Target right around the corner why would anyone come here? Well, obviously the prices are cheaper and for me personally it's for crafting supplies and such. They actually drop bus loads of people off here! Ugh! The worst! This Home Depot isn't my favorite. It's dark and people aren't helpful. Lowes is just down the street and my preferred store for home improvement needs. The Old Navy is huge and I do find some great kids clothes there. There are always online coupons. This store is messy at times and lacking in sales staff. Always a line, but it beats heading to a mall. The AC Moore is ok. It's large and usually has what I'm looking for. The only craft store in the city so there's that. Don't forget your 50% off one item coupon from their site or upon check-in on Yelp. The Bath & Body Works is small, but is very clean and organized and always has what I'm looking for. Valerie, an energetic, knowledgable, friendly sales girl is amazing!! She'll help you with everything!! Great Bath & Body and a nice alternative to parking Liberty Place for those of us who drive. Coming here first thing in the morning or around dinner time or later is best and when it's least crowded. It should be avoided completely on the weekends if possible. You can catch amazing sunsets here!! And there once was a fox in the parking lot which for me is waaaaay cool. There are always, without fail, homeless people at both the entrance and exits. I do not normally give these people cash. I used to live nearby and would see many (not all) of them later on doing drug deals on the back streets. I do however always give water bottles on a hot day or granola bars so maybe have them ready if you're a giver.
