This was my first--and sadly, likely my last--visit to this TJ Maxx location. While the store is bigger than the one in Rego Park, it's extremely disorganized. Clothing racks are a mess, with sizes all mixed up, making it frustrating to shop. To make matters worse, the bathroom was disgustingly dirty. I don't understand why there's a code on the door when the restroom isn't maintained at all. There was no hand soap, no paper towels or tissues, no working hand dryer, and the smell was awful. It clearly hasn't been cleaned in a while. One employee, a middle age Asian male staff member sorting packages in the middle of a busy aisle, was also very unprofessional. I mistakenly took his cart and was yelled at loudly in front of other customers, even after I apologized. I saw him later yelling at another woman for the same thing. That kind of behavior is unacceptable. They seem to get good business, but the store seriously needs work--especially in organization, cleanliness, and staff professionalism. I recommend shopping at the Rego Park location instead, where customers are treated with basic respect. read more

Popped into this TJ Maxx while I was in the area, mostly because I had nothing better to do. Walking into the store, it was clear this place had its priorities: quantity over tidiness. Clothes were falling off hangers like leaves in autumn, and you could usually spot one or two items on the floor in any direction. It's a typical TJ Maxx scene but a bit messier. This store boasts two floors: the first floor is a treasure trove of women's selections, while the second floor is dedicated to men's selections and household goods. You could say it's a bifurcated wonderland of bargains and chaos. I checked out their bag selection but wasn't too impressed. Marshalls still holds the crown for that in my book. After a good 10 minutes of browsing and not finding anything I needed, I decided it was time to make my exit. read more

This store isn't necessarily that big, which sounds crazy because it is on multiple floors. I think they have a good amount of items in the home section. I recently got a turkey pan for about 20 bucks and it was pretty amazing! The men's section has lots of toiletry bags, clippers and nail clippers. Not that long ago I got a beard clipper there for the car. The men's clothing section leaves a lot to be desired. However, it is always clean and neat. The bathrooms are clean. Anytime I've had to talk to the staff. They've been pretty helpful. I once found a clearance item in the men's section, waited on the line and learned to my horror that the item was full price and someone had put a sticker where it should not have been. I suspect that someone did it, got rejected and left it at the counter and it was just put back on the shelf without removing the sticker. Either way I would have much rather have had my 15 to 20 minutes back lol. Generally, I would say that if you were going there to browse you might be disappointed, but if you're going there for something specific that you know they will have, it might be a fruitful destination. read more

Today (2/17/26) I watched a truly horrific experience unfold at TJ Maxx of Astoria (22-06 21st Street). I arrived to the store around 10:40am, eager to check out the merchandise (as the store was not very crowded). Upon exiting from the escalator, I went over to browse the clothing section. After selecting a shirt, I walked over and got in the checkout line to make my purchase (and I was happy because there were only two customers ahead of me - the lines at this store are always ridiculously long). As I moved up in line and got closer to the registers I noticed that only two were open (I believe they were registers 5 and 8). The cashier at register 8 was a light skinned, thin woman with black rim glasses and the cashier at register 5 was a light skinned, medium build woman with blonde/light brown hair. I also noticed a customer (a Black man with dreadlocks, in his late twenties/early thirties) at register 8 who was having an issue making his purchase due to the incompetency of the cashier. He said out loud in a frustrated, yet calm voice "I keep asking you a question and you keep ignoring me. You're telling me what to do but you're not answering my question." Watching all of this unfold, it became clear that the man was simply asking for a price check on one of the items he wanted to purchase, as the price tag was not properly labeled. It was also evident that the cashier was being quite unhelpful as the man said to her "I might as well go over to this other register to checkout because you keep walking over to her (the other cashier) to ask her what to do because the store didn't training you correctly". At this point, it was clear that both cashiers were just doing racism/white supremacy (during Black History Month no less!) and trying to make the Black man look like a trouble-maker solely because he was Black and having real human emotions, instead of helping him. This behavior from the cashiers prompted the customers in front of me to begin to say something about "those types of customers" and as a white ally, I quickly and firmly shut them down and said that I've had my own experiences at this store with the incompetent cashiers and that they have clearly not been properly trained and that the man has every right to be upset. Eventually, a third employee came over and was able to give a price check on the item so that the man could finally make his purchase. After the man left, I was directed to make my purchase at register 8. While I was being rung up, my cashier picked up the phone and told the cashier at register 5 that she was going to call security. This was the most blatant act of racism/white supremacy ever - a Black man made you feel bad because he called out your incompetence so you have to retaliate by calling the cops! If you are a BIPOC please watch your back in this store because the employees would rather enact white supremacy and have you potentially locked up/killed by law enforcement than hold themselves accountable and do their jobs correctly. After all, capitalism goes hand-in-hand with white supremacy! read more

I enjoy popping by this location. It's convenient to the Ditmars stop on the NW. As is the TJ MAXX way, the prices are great and I have found some good deals. Is the store almost always in a state of disarray? YES. I frequent the rummage racks and it's easy to get overwhelmed with the lack of organization. The selection of personal beauty products is almost always great. I find that I tolerate the overall chaotic nature of the store because of the prices, usually good selection, and efficient check-out system. I've not known any staff to be particularly friendly or helpful but I kind of expect that! read more

There is just the right variety of items here when you are in need of something quick. I find this TJ Maxx to be more organized then others . The three sections I recommend are the beauty products section, jewelry and housewares. I haven't had too much luck with the shoes section but you can't have it all! I do not have the patience to shop in their clothing section but my friends and other customers do. I usually go straight for the hair section and they always have random finds that are worth a lot of money but for a really good deal. Even their curly hair section is good. I found the Briogeo brand for a good price. They have a good kitchen section too. I like this T j's because it isn't overwhelming to be in. This TJ Maxx is relatively small, but I've always been able to find something when I needed it. There's less selection and it's always crowded, but you can find some good pieces. The line seems to be a little better here than other TJ Maxx that are this crowded. The staff is always very friendly. read more

I love, love, love me some TJ Maxx. Designer clothes and shoes at discount prices. I buy clothes, shoes, socks and hosiery, housewares, linens/towels, cookware, specialty foods, pet beds and accessories including treats, baby and toddler clothing and gifts. They even have cosmetics and perfumes. Oh and luggage and travel accessories as well as dresses including formal dresses. The store on Wendover, Battleground and Eastchester in High Point are neat and clean. Well organized too. They also have convenient hours with plenty of parking. read more

If i may make a few suggestions. You're in a fairly trendy neighborhood, which could call for a small runway section. The selection was decent during grand opening. Who ever the regional manager is needs to visit more often! There is merchandise that sits for way too long, to the point of "how is this sellable"? Some may say the location is rather small, & there's heavy traffic, all understandable. Although not excusable. I have been to plenty seen it all. I normally have nothing against discount stores like TJ Maxx if they blend in with the neighborhood, but whoever built this giant monstrosity on 31st street should be fired. The store is taller and fatter than all the other stores surrounding it, out of proportion with the rest of the block and ruining the symmetry of what had been a pleasant retail strip running parallel to the subway tracks of the N train. It's a vulgar McMansion, only it's a retail store. Blocking out the sun like a bully, the gray metal shell of the store looks like a monument (or tombstone) to mindless American consumerism. Astoria used to have one-of-a-kind mom and pop shops. When I first moved here in 1994, I bought clothes from a mom and pop clothing store called Susan Terry, which I saw nowhere else. Now, 30 years later, with the closure of Pizza Palace and Mike's Diner, I cannot describe how depressing it is to see mall crap like this invading what had been a fun, quirky neighborhood. I suppose change was inevitable; the next stage after gentrification is complete and total blandness. The same block now has Popeye's and Taco Bell. Can the hundredth Target or Olive Garden be far behind? These cookie cutter chain stores tend to cluster together, like cancer cells - sad that Ditmars is on its way to being swallowed up until it becomes indistinguishable from Queens Mall and thousands of other neighborhoods filled with the same generic, mass produced junk. I feel sorry for younger people who never lived in this area when it was truly unique. read more

Yes, this place is smaller than more TJ Maxx but hey its in Queens. I like this place better than Target. Everything is just brand new and organized. The line on a Monday morning was pretty quick. About 7 registers were open. The beauty section was not all jacked up and messy like most other of their chains stores around. Nothing was miss placed or wrong items put in the clarence section. The bathroom is on the second floor. You have to ask customer service for the code to get in. Theres a women and mens bathroom, it isn't mixed used. I didn't use the bathroom becauae I didn't feel like bothering customer service. Do not let them persuade you into getting a credit card. I had to tell the man at the register 3x no I'm not interested. I didn't deduct a star for that because I think he had to be pushy becauase his manager was right next to him. read more

This TJ Maxx seems quiet compared to Marshalls on Northern Blvd. Perhaps, it's relatively new. This store takes up second and third floors. Its floor space is as big as one on 57th street in the city. I was in bedding section on the third floor and looked for a bed sheet set, but there weren't that many selections as I expected, plus the prices were not that cheap either, so I ended up buying nothing. read more

I was in dire need of new pair of home slippers. After a little negotiation with myself it was decided to go to tjmax. Again. Just relax and take a deep breath. After stumbling upon multiple things I found the right pair. Time to go to checkout. Sigh. Somehow no matter what time of the day or what day of the week is, there is always queue to wait on. I get my things, pay, leave, get home only to find out that they up charged me $42. There was 2 items never purchased by me on the check. In this nasty drizzle outside I'm taking myself back there. Getting my refund after negotiations, no apologies, no smile. Nothing. This tjmaxx is located in a very busy area but slowly and surely drowning. Such a shame that this place is a huge mess and workers are really rude and hostile. read more

TJ Maxx has a variety of things. First of all, it was the first time, I ever been to a TJ Maxx. There are people to ask for help. I also noticed there was a ton of clothes and affordable brand names. I even saw low prices of kid toys. I walked in because they had a ton of different styles. And also my friend recommended that I go. I like Marshall's and thrift shops, so I don't need to spend a ton on items as long as they are high quality and cute. I saw many different tops, jeans, and blouses. It has a ton of shoes! read more

This is a really nice store. In fact, I quite like it a lot. I normally don't do large stores like Macys, TJ Maxx, and DSW because the crowds are generally enormous, overwhelming, and turn shopping into a darn chore. This particular location is fantastic, as the train is located on the same block. It can't be anymore convenient. The store itself is 2 levels, has a decent footprint in square feet, and has a decent selection. Anyone can definitely find some odds and ends in here while slowly window shopping. They have 8 registers and all of them were going when i shopped here. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I had no issues at all. I found some bargains on some home furnishing items. So glad this store is here. Due to the pandemic, they limit the number of shoppers at a given time. There was a small line outside, but it moved rather quickly. Let me start on how they followed me around the store and made it known to keep an eye on me?? I love baking so I was in the isles where the pans and cooking essentials are and I wont lie I was there for a while. The one guy was in a gray shirt and seemed like a manager which was the one that told the lady working the dressing rooms to "keep your eyes open and watch". I then went to other isles and there he was AGAIN. The last part was when I was waiting for the elevator to go check out and he came along to fix a Christmas wreath that didn't even have to be fixed. And watched me enter the elevator. Mind you this whole time I was one out of 3 people on that floor and everyone else was on the other side of the store. The store itself.... It is a decent TJ Maxx, it could get a little dirty and sometimes they don't have a lot on the shelves but it is decent otherwise. The employees are usually nice but once you get up to the register there are a handful of workers that try to uncomfortably pressure you into signing up for a card no matter how many times you say no. When I worked at Marshall's, I always got told if your customer says no then don't make them feel uncomfortable and ask again. I have come to this location many many times and spent a load of my money here because it is the only one that is close to where I live and now I will never be going back there just because of the fact that this store makes their customers uncomfortable in a few ways. read more

Good items at good prices...that goes for TJMaxx in general. This location, however, gets 1 star for 1 reason and 1 reason only: the manager. Checkout girl was lovely, did her job just fine. Older woman who I assume is the manager proceeds to come over and pressure me well over 5 times to open an account. The second she started I said "no thanks" and she very uncomfortably proceeded to aggressively push it on me well over 5 times, asking me "why not" and "we'll do a credit run right now." Today I was there, I couldn't believe how disgusting one of the female, older, woman staff worker upstairs in the home section was acting towards the other male blonde young worker. She was yelling in front of everyone on how "disgusting the customers are" "leaving this all over the place" and ordering the poor guy to clean it up and giving him orders. Elaine working in the dressing room was wonderful, with a bright smile we briefly chatted about the rainstorm that just blew through and the weather for the upcoming weekend. So kind and helpful. I just went in there to look around and the customer service was horrible. Especially the woman working in the home section on the top floor. 1. She was not dressed appropriately for work: sneakers, sweatpants very frumpy looking. 2. She was huffing and puffing complaining about stocking the shelves and making them orderly. She was accusing customers of placing items on the wrong shelves asking them: "why is this here?!" She needs some customer service training. a fairly new 2 level tj maxx in astoria not far from the costco i usually shop at . its not as big compared to a few other maxxs i shop at but i bet you can find more then a few useful goods on level 2 and or level 3. the store is not messy and the aisles are easy to get around in with your shopping cart. with christmas days away i was able to find a bunch of gifts for family and friends and i treated myself to a robe and a few other neat trinkets. the checkout is one level 2 and only one person on line means i dont have to wait much .i wish i had a little more time cause i need more gifts but i gotta bounce and meet my crew for dinner . glad a tjmaxx opened in this area of astoria and i will be back after the holidays when less folks are roaming the aisle . read more
