Tollers Bistro - Spinach and cheese. Curry rice bowl

You would think I'd give any place that would serve me a beer an automatic five during these COVID…read moretimes. Tollers Bistro's food is certainly worthy but since each of its previous five ratings are fives, I'll go against the grain with a four, as there is always room for improvement. Located in a small strip mall, it's a high ceiling open space that lends itself well to safe dining. Tables are nicely separated and booths have guards between them. However, there is no sanitizer available at the entrance and I noticed the waitress seating customers without masks, so a little more effort regarding patron's safety would be nice. The food is excellent. Great menu, lots of choice and really interesting. We did some sharing, fish tacos, sweet potato fries, and cauliflower bites. Fish was battered, not normally my favourite, but was light and really tasty. Maybe the best sweet potatoes ever and the cauliflower bites are a meal, lightly breaded and tasty, maybe too big to be shared with just two people, most of ours came home. Staff is friendly and attentive. Waitress didn't know the beer list and suggested I "go look", which is fine but there weren't that many to remember. She did, however, bring us a takeaway box without being asked as she noticed the cauliflower bites still lingering on the plate. I can agree with the previous fives, but there is always room for improvement, at Tollers it's just some attention to detail. Great spot!

The lemon glaze had just the perfect amount of tart! Was a difficult decision choosing a doughnut flavour. The iced coffee with English toffee was just perfect for this sunny Alberta morning. All the reviews are correct. It's a must stop coffee shoppe. Easily one of my favourites when I come 'home' to Lacombe.

Little Red Barn Cafe & Gift - Soup of the day: potato leek

Was super surprised to find this gem when Googling place to eat Red Deer for my day trip here…read more Easy to find IF you use Google Maps. Can see the barn from the road. Lots of parking. Lots of things for the kids to play on. Patio looks sparse and a little uncomfortable on those tiny chairs. So many cool trinkets to see here. Unique for sure. Staff were very friendly but not great with water refills. Not too busy at a Sunday at 12pm (50% full). Friend loved his Reuben but felt the soup was mostly broth. Another friend got the kettle chips and they literally looked like plain Ripple wavy potato chips. My salad was amazing, vinaigrette wasn't too sour which was perfect. Needed chicken for sure. Salad greens were fresh, but the beets seemed lackluster. Overall a wonderful place for a coffee date, couples date, Sunday brunch with your mom, or just to see the trinkets and have a light lunch.

Things have changed at this former hidden gem. Prices have gone up and service has gone down. Three times now I have been there with friends when this woman proceeds to bring out the vacuum- which you can hardly hear yourself talk above - then the mop and bucket with the obnoxious smelling cleaner all while you are trying to visit with friends and finish eating. There is nothing worse in a restaurant and no excuse for it. I don't care if we are the only customers left , you wait until you close before cleaning the floor, it is rude and shows no regard for people that have paid to be there. I hope this changes but I and my friends will not be back to find out.

July 15/2025: Dinner with Bea/Jorge & my Al…read more This was not bad at all. Our server Tanya had a great sense of humour & delivered good service. This was a totally casual restaurant & lots of seating. As for the food...I have the dill pickle chips ($9.00). They were actual pickle chips, battered & deep fried. Very tasty & a decent size portion. My main was the Chicken Parm ($24.00) with a side a veggies. The chicken itself was very tasty, fried to perfection & a decent size portion. The veggies were carrots & green beans. The veggies were just ok but still hot nonetheless. Where the star was lost was the Fettuccine Alfredo. It was dried out & virtually tasteless with a small portion. This was disappointing. The dessert was the cheesecake with a pressed graham cracker crust ($13.00). This was a whipped cheesecake/strawberries was good but not as good as an actual baked cheesecake.

The steak was suppose to be well done and it was rare even when it was sent back to the kitchen to re-cook. I wanted a baked potato which was on the menu and they were out so we settled for mashed potatoes which were tasteless. I poured my butter from my lobster on the potatoes so it would have some flavour. The best part about the meal was the garlic butter. After complaining about the steak being sent back twice being raw, they gave us $5.00 off my meal. I will never go there again!!!
