DO NOT GO TO THIS UNORGANIZED CLUB.. 0/0…read more We bought tickets ahead of time for Egg London's Halloween night and were so excited to go, but the whole experience was horrible. We waited almost two hours in the rain, barely moving in line, and I really needed to use the bathroom but kept holding it because we were finally close to the front. My girlfriend handed me my ID, and when I followed her under the line divider to get back in our spot, the security guard saw her give me my ID and still shoved me out of the line with no warning at all. I wasn't trying to cut or cause any issues -- we'd already been waiting the whole time. When my girlfriend tried to ask what was going on, he shoved her too, again without saying a word. It was completely uncalled for and honestly really upsetting. To make things worse, two of our friends went inside and paid extra without even telling us, after we had all waited together. The whole situation was chaotic, unprofessional, and handled terribly. Between the lack of communication, poor organization, and aggressive security, this was one of the worst nights out I've had in London. I have never gotten kicked out of a night club or shoved! WOW

Now Barden's is a 'lounge' with big leather sofas and heavy wooden tables, above the underground club that was once it's home. Bit of a change... So The Nest is sweet. A sound system that is perfect for DJs and bands, they have actually dug out the floor and laid in a lower smooth one making the whole place seem a lot less oppressive. The bar now has a sexy computer till and there is a good chance that when you sit on the sofas you wont stand up with chewing gum stuck to your dress. They charge to get in, £5, which considering that the Alibi down the road is free, might cause them a little issue. Also the Alibi has a feeling of grungy cool that The Nest lacks. Saying that though, I went here for a club night, which was super fun. Check out their listing on the website to see who playing. It's an Old Street style venue in Dalston. A lot of money has gone in here and it's nice because they have done it well.

(pointing in horror at friend's stereo), Friend, "House music? Yes" I really enjoyed myself. Very white crowd totally unable to dance even to the most simple straightforward beats, but everyone was having a good time nonetheless. I found an excellent bartender who was extremely efficient and also managed to make friends with some nice guys who had a bucket with a bottle of vodka in it, so that was good. Only criticism I would have is that it was horribly overcrowded - it's a bit of a buzz kill to have it cross your mind that you would almost certainly be crushed if there were a fire. Also, my feet (wearing sandals) were completely black by the end of the night! I think I ended up washing them in my friend's sink, which might be why he was a bit short with me the next day....sorry man.

Ben and I had chosen coloured contacts (me in black, him in white) as our added weapons. Slimelight is a big, members only goth club. If you're a non-member, there are two ways to get in: know a member, or look the part. We looked the part. As well as many dance rooms (with varieties of music: Ben and I liked the ravey room best), the club also serves food (they had a barbecue!), has pool tables, many bars, and runs occasional events: we were privy to goth bingo, and participated in karaoke! Brilliant. Mainly, I loved dancing in the electronic style room because the UV lighting made my outfit look AWESOME. As far as karaoke goes, I went for a nerve-wracking rendition of Love Cats, and later on, my friend Sas and I teamed up for a blinding performance of 99 Red Balloons. Both were REALLY well received Great fun. Thanks to the chaps at Slimelight you're a lovely lot

Super friendly people, many with elaborate Goth outfits. Crowd includes all ages from 60 year old veterans to 20 year olds, and everyone is having fun with quality Gothic rock, ebm and industrial music. I hope I get to keep on coming here for many more years. Since someone asked, I'll clarify that the Slimelight is on every Saturday from 2300 til very late. Sometimes there are also pre club shows from artists in the Gothic and Industrial scene, in which case a ticket for the show will also get you into the club. Other nights of the week the venue operates under different names for different purposes.

Especially if you have just twigged (albeit too late dahhling) that the 'cool kids' all hang out in Dalston and London field these days; the heady days of the archetypal Shoreditch Twat and Nathan Barley are over. Come East, my friends! Anyway back to Visions and why, incidentally I think it's fan-effing tastic: Reason one - no 'door aggro' from overzealously frisky doormen. They're friendly. They smile at you without being lecherous. They even remember your name! Reason Two - the bar costs next to nothing, not that I was drinking anyway that night but still good for everyone else to know. NB: if you're on a booze free night; the orange juice is doable but not great boo Reason three - and this is one helluva reason - CLUB JOLENE. It's a CRACKER. I should mention that at this point if you are not a lesbian, the below may have relatively little interest to you, although I am assured that they do a load of other indie and eclectic music nights for my heterosexual brethren too; so worry not. What I love most about Club Jolene, which was the night on which I went to Visions, was the fact that it respresented the reason that I had started going to straight bars in Hackney (for the music, man), so now I can listen to electro, alt rock, indie, and random Dolly Parton inspires classics until I fall asleep in a corner somwehere and hang out with 'the girls' at the same time. Ace. Also, it appears to so far have missed being infected by the dreaded 'cool club curse' whereby the moment a club gets seen as a 'go to' location, everyone starts acting like snooty tryhards (a la George & Dragon, circa 2005), destroying any enjoyment you could have reaped from going out there in the first place. Furthermore, Dalston seems to have a web-like network of house parties, meaning when you go out to a club like Visions, the fun needn't stop at 3. Oh yes.

A slight air of fear, and a lot of good dancing, and style. Its often luck whether this place is open or not and what night it turns out to be. In my case it was a grime night. The drinks list (mid-range brandy, champagne, and whiskey) was scribbled ona piece of white A4 paper in chunky black marker, which was pretty funny. Its designer or vintage only and no-one is over 26. Definitley coming back.
