Approaching we nearly turned around. Slightly out of the main shopping area this place looked like a dodgy local boozer with hanging baskets. Getting closer I spotted the dazzling lights of a disco ball and I knew we were in the right place. This place is awesome. Pool table, check. Clean, check. Good selection of booze, including a non-alcoholic beer for the Mrs, check. Cheesey tunes, check. Fabulous and friendly staff, check. Lesbians, check. I have to especially say to the guy behind the bar when we went who was an utter delight. Letting us know the places to go an be seen. Even remembering my order. Toto, we're not in London anymore.

One day I was strolling through Richmond and spotted him walking down the alley way towards this pub, so I thought I might follow him to see where he went. ( IT WASN'T STALKING!! ). He went into this pub with its rainbow flag proudly flying. (Clue *2) Has anyone guessed yet that this is a gay pub? "How could you not have realised that this was a gay pub?" Asked my friend. "The flowers are so well tended to out the front - when do you see that with a straight pub?". That is true. This pub has one of the nicest flower displays that I have ever seen. it also has an extremely friendly crowd. I would say that it is more gay than mixed. They also hold cabaret nights as well as other entertainment. It is tucked away from Richmond high street, and obviously has a completely different vibe from the loud, crazy bars that are so near it. Somehow it seems like an oasis of tranquility. I just wish that I had discovered it in more pleasant circumstances!

Now I'm too young to ever have experienced the more underground gay bars of yesteryear - but this place felt reminiscent of those times. For 11pm on a Friday there was no way the bar needed to be that HOT. I mean, difficult to breathe kind of HOT. And yet remarkably everyone still had their shirts on! The bar itself is small and crammed, but the staff were nice and friendly and the booze reasonably priced. The whole place is very dark, with a small cabaret stage area with the compulsory silver backdrop. It all felt a bit dated, terrible (and not ironically camp) music, sauna type hot with a keep your clothes on rule and just BLEH. No I'm not the lesbian spoil sport - I love a good sausage bar with a good atmosphere, but I'm afraid the only Glory in this bar may be in the holes in the bathroom.

Some cow skin little stools, leather sofas big wooden armchairs and tall wooden bar stools situated around the table bars in the window sills. Drinks are reasonably priced. However the bar staff can be quite slow so send your friends to find a table saves everyone waiting! It gets very busy on a Friday and Saturday evening. Now from a cafe poit of view this place fails, the kitchen staff couldn't deal with more that 5 covers at once and told a friend of mine that they weren't taking orders for half an hour. When I ordered my food it came and was lovely but it did take 45 minutes to fry an egg, literally! So DS, I will be back, I will try you again, I just won't have such high expectations. My only negative is the toilets and the stairs up/downstairs - beware the stairs, they're really rather steep and slippy with alcohol. I have a cracking bruise after a stumble so watch your step. Also, the toilets are unisex, rather messy and constantly busy which was slightly frustrating. To note - this is a gay bar so if you're not into eccentricities I wouldn't recommend this venue. In our case, whenever we go abroad, we have to check out the local Irish bar - because the Mrs is Irish and no matter where you go - there's an Irish bar. Whenever we go somewhere we know there's a gay bar - we have to go and check it out. So as you can imagine, we've been to a fair few not so pleasant gay bars in our time. Well done Bromley - you win our least favourite gay bar in the world competition so far. It's dark - so dark I couldn't work out what money I had in my hand to give over the bar. It's expensive - Over £6 for a spirit and mixer - I am not in a poesy soho bar. It's not a poesy soho bar - this of course would normally be a positive point, however it's so dated, dirty, falling apart that I begrudge paying so much for a simple drink. It also ponged - B.O. It's unfriendly - in a 'you're not from round here' kind of way. I'm sure if we had gone there at night it might have had a different atmosphere and wouldn't have been so awful. I so wanted this to be a new regular for me since moving further south, but I think I'll keep Bromley for shopping rather than drinking.

It has an ambiguous reputation, meaning my imagination ran wild with the all kinds of grott and depravity it could be. This place blew my expectations. I imagined some tacky bar with large dancefloor and disco-balls galore. Some attempt to rival the Soho scene. Oh No. It's a pub. A really big pub. Traditional pub sign hanging high outside proudly coloured in rainbow. Inside, aside from the purple-pink neon bar it's your local. Good selection behind the bar and really reasonable prices. The staff are unpretentious and friendly. There's a real feeling of community here, everyone knowing everyone, instead of everyone sleeping with everyone. We went on a Friday, the evening started early with great entertainment. A wonderful gentleman playing you show tune classics on the stunning grand piano in one section of the bar. We moved from the dance classics to join him. He took requests and invited us up to sing. It was a wonderful atmosphere for friends catching up. Moving on from civilised sing song and chat we take up our space on the dancefloor and get ready for the head-liner. A fantastic caliber of drag act entertained us. Far from your dodgy man in a dress was this wonderful entertainer that warmed us up for an energetic night on the dancefloor. This pub is great for groups. Pool table, seating, different spaces for different crowds and a good atmosphere. It's not always very busy, even on this particular Friday it was no where near full, and it was quite clear they were mainly audience for the headline act. Don't get me wrong, it's still all kinds of camp, disco balls included and the ladies leave a lot to be desired but it's got a lot of soul. Bingo nights, karaoke nights, quiz nights, DJ's, drag shows, a massive garden, a piano lounge, big dance floor, comfy sofas, yeah, everything you could wish for when you want a night out! Another reason for this being my favorite place is that the people who go there seems more relaxed than in central London. Less artificial and pretentious. There is also a big mix between girls and boys, women and men, straights and gays, in all ages! If you want a good and fun night out, or just somewhere to chill, this is your place!

On the approach; our negative suspicions were proved right as we saw the well worn exterior of the pub. Taking a deep breath we ventured in. On first impressions it actually looked quite nice. Deep purple painted walls and trendy wall paper. A light and airy look. The Problems started when we ordered a drink at the bar. Drinks weren't cheap and I got what I believe to be the dirtiest pint ever had the displeasure of drinking. It just tasted foul, like the lines hadn't been cleaned, ever. Everywhere on the bar and tables seemed to already be wet. Even for 8pm on a Friday night the atmosphere was lifeless with just a scattering of lone men sitting around the place. As a bar, it's not hip nor stylish but offers a welcome home to a variety of local community events embracing all aspects of queer and allied trade identities including regular socials for trans people, cross dressers and their admirers - if you're no comfortable with this then prepare to see your horses frightened! If you are then enjoy one of the warmest spaces in town. The hotel (perhaps more B&B) is clean but dated, with reasonable facilities and a can do attitude. They have a lovely little roof terrace and while hardly boutique, it does a great breakfast fry up and a proper cup of tea - a rare find in that big London these days.

We waited almost two hours in the rain, barely moving in line, and I really needed to use the bathroom but kept holding it because we were finally close to the front. My girlfriend handed me my ID, and when I followed her under the line divider to get back in our spot, the security guard saw her give me my ID and still shoved me out of the line with no warning at all. I wasn't trying to cut or cause any issues -- we'd already been waiting the whole time. When my girlfriend tried to ask what was going on, he shoved her too, again without saying a word. It was completely uncalled for and honestly really upsetting. To make things worse, two of our friends went inside and paid extra without even telling us, after we had all waited together. The whole situation was chaotic, unprofessional, and handled terribly. Between the lack of communication, poor organization, and aggressive security, this was one of the worst nights out I've had in London. I have never gotten kicked out of a night club or shoved! WOW
