Band was good, weather was still decent and the doors were open to the patio. outdoor games we available and people were playing and dancing. It was an enjoyable atmosphere. We ordered food and the food was decent. Three tacos, beans and rice for $13. My steak taco was generous on the meat portion. Ordering and getting our food was a bit disjointed. No wait staff, you order at the kiosk. The kitchen appeared to be run by a family. Food was brought out to our table but then we had to go to a salad bar station for salsa's and other toppings. Limes and lettuce were looking sad. Had to ask for (plastic) silverware and napkins. I'd return here, knowing to expect more of a bar experience than a restaurant experience. read more

We stopped in on a Sunday afternoon for some drinks and lunch, but unfortunately the experience fell short. Our drinks tasted burnt, and one person in our group was served the wrong drink. When we pointed it out, the server acted as though correcting her mistake was an inconvenience. We only ordered appetizers, yet they still took about 45 minutes to arrive. The food was just okay, but the service was the biggest disappointment. There were no apologies for the delays or the drink mix-up, and our server only checked on us once to see if we wanted another round. The location has a great atmosphere, and I really enjoyed the decor and music. Unfortunately, the poor service overshadowed those positives. Customer service has a direct impact on whether guests choose to return, and based on our visit, we won't be back. read more

I LOVE their day drinking vibes here, it's pretty laid back during the day but everyone is having a lot of fun. Bonus: on Saturday mornings they usually have live music. There's also a bunch of yard games here, like bags and giant Jenga. It's pretty family friendly in the early afternoon and many people bring their dogs as well. One drawback - don't expect attentive wait staff. It can be hit or miss, so you may just want to order your drinks at the bar to avoid a wait. read more

Stay aware unless you're "in the club." I've gone on multiple occasions and had to wait an inordinate amount of time to be greeted, let alone order while at a table. This last time was the tipping point, though. Our party of three watched as wait staff alternated between flirting and talking with friends, and cleaning up other tables. They ignored us as we tried to get their attention to order. We eventually went to the bar to order. The first waitress we stopped did explain to us that it is food truck style now instead of table service. But we had to stop her twice and she didn't understand us the first time when we asked about menus. When someone finally came around to ask us independently if we needed anything, she lied to our face when we said we had been here for 20 minutes without being served. (She told us she "just got here," however she walked right past us to go to a group outside when we entered the establishment, among the listed activities above.) She refused to serve us at first because we started a tab at the bar since no one came. If she thought she was sneaky, she wasn't as she immediately went and told the bartender about what we said as she pointed at us and talked to him before coming back to ask us about our refill again. Apparently the music is too loud for the wait staff to hear you speak? Not one of the staff could hear us even when using loud voices. Also, even though there's four staff behind the bar, only one can run the register to run credit cards. Literally the rest just stared at he ran it. I'm torn between giving this a one or two . While my friends who drink beer have informed me that the beer is cold, it is not poured properly. The liquor drinks are too costly for what you get. The food is ok, not that great.The wings are flavorful but not worth the hassle. read more

I had to compromise with the rating on the Tipsy Crow. For the physical attributes (location, design, tables, etc) I give it 5 stars. What a great location and space. Buuut...(you knew this was coming)...the service is spotty. We went once on a Saturday and literally couldn't catch a server for about 30 minutes. It was bottomless Bloody Mary and Mimosa day, so it was crowded. Chalked it up to understaffed and maybe more people than expected. However, went back another Saturday and it still took 15-20 minutes for a server to clear our table and take our drink order. Once she showed up, however, she was awesome and very timely/friendly. They bring you a plastic cup with ice and vodka, then you make your way to the Bloody Mary prep area. The Bloody Mary bar was sad...think 2 pickles floating around in a one gallon jar, some cheese cubes, and bacon crumbles... The ordered drinks are good, but really inconsistent. I drank traditional margaritas on the rocks with salt and I swear I got three totally different drinks... But they were all very good (one sour, one sweet, one perfectly mixed). It is LOUD, very loud. I guess this is a plus for some people (I am old now...haha), but you couldn't talk to anyone in your party. One time is was the bank CRANKING out music, the next time it was yells from a corn hole game. Not very conducive to socializing. But, like I said, I'm old. My drink was burned, my husband got the wrong beer, our appetizers too 45 min to arrive... separately... the onion rings had been sitting for a good 30 min. In town for a little getaway with my boyfriend, best friend and her boyfriend. We were on our way to a rooftop bar and looked across the street to see this amazing open and very inviting patio bar. Talk about seating, you can sit under the umbrellas, or you can choose to sit under other sun blocking coverage, plus they have a building a gorgeous open concept to make it feel like you are still sitting outside. This worked really well for us since we changed tables not one, not two, but three times. As a redhead I was feeling the sun a bit more then my comrades. Our wonderful server Ellie fallowed us to each of our tables, and giggled right along with us as we had to pick up our entire card game and transfer it to new tables. The drinks were amazing, I highly recommend the Son of Peach, and we only had a few tacos since we were saving room for a big dinner coming up later that night. We could see that this was a great place to take small, large or any size groups. The have three bars ready to help quench the thirst of their guests, and servers everywhere with smiles from ear to ear to help take care of you. I also find it hard for them to ever run out of seating, with six different areas to hang out with friends, and did I mention the little stage and bags that are out and ready for anyone to play. Where's the ladder ball? Later that same night after our dinner we had such a good time that we came back for after dinner drinks. Ellie was sadly gone for the night so we sat at the bar and got to know John. He was great, we got to talk shop and funny stories all the while humoring us and our requests. As the night wound down we had a chance to talk to the manager Chad to compliment him on all the amazing staff that we met, he was just as amazing as everyone else. This is a really fun new place in Des Moines, just a block south of Court Avenue. The place that held this location previously was a dump, but the Tipsy Crow makeover turned it into something else completely! The patio wraps around the old depot building, with a variety of seating at high-tops and also lounge-type outside furniture. With the lights strung overhead, the music stage, and the multiple bars, it feels fun and ready for action! We had friendly and prompt service, and the food was good. It's a pretty typical bar food menu -- if you're looking for high cuisine, there are better places to visit -- but the point here is the atmosphere. A great addition to the Court District. read more

Such a great place for dogs. Well one would think... I was there on s Saturday afternoon... all was great until a small dog got bit, thrown and tossed-around by a much larger dog... the owner of the small dog couldn't get her own dog out of his mouth... after a few minutes the smaller hog owner left because she was she was uncomfortable... Wow! New and huge hot spot for downtown DSM. It really is the largest patio bar in town with many areas to lounge and chill. I went on a Saturday night and it was shoulder to shoulder jam packed with people of all ages. With it being a brand new spot, service was a bit slow. Really good service and friendly staff. Great atmosphere, the only reason I'm giving a 4 instead of 5 stars is that all of the serving ware is disposable. Tried the nachos, white cheese sauce and lots of cilantro with flour tortilla chips. Delicious! Generous serving. Two of us only got 1/2 way they the plate. I was DD on Saturday night and witnessed a male bartender pour a full drink down a young woman's shirt because she accidentally spilled her shot on the bar. Poor girl left the bar in tears. Extremely mixed reviews on this place (seven trips mostly Saturday morning during farmer market) Great place in summer. Breakfast tacos can't be beat especially during farmers market. Service is where I deviate. During the week when they are not busy at lunch service is great. Weekends especially during farmers market they are extremely slow and mediocre at best. Tonight I stopped in for drinks with family. Place had five patrons plus our five walking in. The first impression the waitress initially gave was that it was beyond a burden to serve us. To her credit she recovered and was accommodating the rest of our experience. She then asked us to close out as she was being cut which I can appreciate. As we are only there 30 minutes at that point we decided to transfer to another waitress. One member of our group pulled her aside and made sure to tip for her sevice. She said she would move our tab to the on coming waitress. All was great and the new waitress continued to serve us. We closed out with her as well (and tipped her on the new drinks she served us). Our family's flight was continuing to be delayed so at that point we ordered from the bar and closed out each time as we weren't sure when we would need to leave. Towards the end the new waitress confronted us (after ordering drinks from the bar) and asked why she was only tipped five percent on our bill. Working in the food industry during high school I felt that was pretty bold. As we explained, her predecessor was also tipped on that same bill we were simply being fair on drinks she served us. She acknowledged and went back to the bar area. We were a bit taken back given how well we tipped both waitresses. This place has the opportunity to be great given its location and atmosphere but if the owner(s) doesn't train and give it's team the support it needs this place will not live up to its potential. Probably wouldn't continue to come back but the food is exceptional and worth the trip. read more

Was in from out of town and stopped in to check it out. Phenomenal customer service. We were there during an ISU basketball game and the place was pretty busy, the bartender took very good care of us and everyone else. One small snafu did happen with my card getting charged twice, after a single email to their company address, I was reached by both the owner and manager. Both were incredible in the politeness and understanding they provided. The issue was resolved very quickly. I would not hesitate to go back to this tavern every time I go to Des Moines. I've heard of several people that have recently been roofied (involuntarily drugged with an incapacitating date rape drug) at this bar. Imagine - suddenly you are having a drink and suddenly you feel it hit. Your brain and body stop working. You can barely move. It feels like you have 100lb weights on each limb. You can barely move your mouth to talk. Then you black out and collapse in the street trying to get away. Is it a coincidence that this is happening often at tipsy crow? If you're into the chill bar environment, this is definitely a good place to check out. Located right outside the Des Moines Science Center, the Tipsy Crow Tavern is in a good location with a parking garage next door. When first driving by it is a little hard to figure out if you're in the right spot, though, because of the lack of signage. Once inside, there are a couple pool tables and a good amount of seating. There is also a good amount of outdoor seating, but it was cleared out for the winter season. We didn't get there in time to get any food (the kitchen closed at 11). But the drink prices were fair and they had a variety of specialty drinks. The only problem was that the bartenders seemed to walk away from the bar a lot and would stand and chat at the back so it was hard to get their attention. There was a DJ playing some great, uplifting music which kept a fun vibe throughout. Lastly, my favorite part about Tipsy Crow, is the bathrooms. They have probably the best bathrooms of a bar of this type. They were modern, spacious, and super CLEAN! I definitely plan to be back to the Tipsy Crow to try out the food and for a good place to catch up with friends and make some new ones! read more

No longer serve food. Did have an outside food counter and don't get me wrong I love a good food truck but BBQ with three items? And no breakfast option.
