This is a stretch of road you gotta go see if you're in the Yosemite or Lee Vining area on the eastern side of the Sierras. From the bottom is 12 miles to the top, and you'll see some of the most spectacular mountain scenery you'll ever see anywhere. Stop and take pics! There are plenty of pull outs to stop at. I was here near the end of June to see the record snowfall! The road was only cleared and open to the Yosemite Park boundary gate, so we had to turn around at the top ... but hey ... no $20 entrance fee! Wow what an amazing place! I started my drive from the eastern side, and if you have a choice, I'd recommend going in that direction. The climb up to the summit and gateway entrance to Yosemite is the money bit of the road. There are other places that are equally spectacular along the route, but the first 15 miles of Route 120 going west are simply jaw dropping. Having said that, I was on a ROAD TRIP. No hiking planned, however that are tons of opportunities along the route. I did make a point to stop and walk out to Olmsted Point. A mere half mile round trip, but definitely not to be missed.
