I would never write a complaint that I didn't deem necessary, but I was sincerely alarmed by the way my therapist, Dr. Tina Goodin, handled a missed session (due to personal issues). Basically, there are two things at play: 1. A deceiving cancellation policy and 2. negligent, abusive behavior. Firstly, I was never notified that I would be billed any amount ($150) for a missed session of therapy from the merchant, nor was any amount specified in her cancellation policy. My BCBS insurance pays for the majority of our sessions, with my co-pay being $15. She also never would give me a weekly time slot, making her schedule (and mine as a first-time new mother struggling with postpartum depression and anxiety) very hard to remember. As seen in her cancellation policy attached, she does not disclose a numerical amount for her fee and is required by the psychologist's Code of Ethics to discuss such policies with patients to avoid exploitation and misunderstandings. Fees are also encouraged to be discussed as early as possible. Secondly, not only was the amount never addressed, she never even followed up to make sure I was okay (it was a missed session, not a formal cancellation). She also never gave me a weekly time slot and with mental distress, home displacement, a pandemic, and a new baby, I mixed up the days and missed the session. She not only billed me without taking the time to explain her policy, she did not even reach out to reschedule or confirm my safety, which is extremely negligent on her end. She even gaslit me, taking my shortcomings that I had shared with her and used them against me (telling me I have anger issues, am looking for a fight, etc.) when that was far from the truth of the matter. I have reached out and tried to settle this with the merchant, but she has ignored my calls and texts. Furthermore, she never offered a termination session, a referral, or follow-up and was exploitative and antagonistic when I tried to communicate this with her. She also only gave phone call sessions and would repeatedly do dishes or clean while in session. I also would have to recap what we talked about in the previous session, as she seemingly had no notes to support our discussions. I am worried that if she would leave me so distressed, she would easily do this to others. Please see the enclosed photos of her cancellation policy and thank you for your time. Again, this is less about the money and more about the distress she caused me (and left me in) emotionally. Do NOT trust this woman with your time, emotions, or money. read more
