I just gave them $2000 for a dental implant and didn't get a receipt, which I need to submit a claim to my insurance. Otherwise, they appeared to have the knowledge to help me, and their technical equipment is extraordinary. After giving them $2400, I sure hope I get the medical device they promised. I saw Dr. Timothy Mickiewicz for TMJ treatment last year, and unfortunately, my experience was very negative. I spent about $4,500 in less than a month on Botox and a device that, in my case, did not help. I consistently felt rushed, not listened to, and there was very little empathy or follow-through. I was eventually dismissed as a patient without relief, support, or a clear path forward. I was even told to try a CBD dispensary because they could not offer pain medication, which felt completely inadequate given the severity of my jaw pain. TMJ care is expensive and emotionally taxing, and this experience left me feeling worse. I would recommend seeing another specialist who offers more compassion, clarity, and effective support. read more

I was referred to this office by my doctor at Sutter to treat an injury. It was extremely hard to get an appointment and they're booked months out. I thought once I received care I'd be seen sooner, but every appointment was at least 3 months apart. Once I had my first appointment I was told to get a splint, which was fully out of pocket and nearly $1,000. For the visit itself, I was told that there would be a fee for the visit out of pocket, which was strange because with my insurance care is covered if I'm referred. I asked them for paperwork to send to my insurance detailing the treatment and they refused, giving me a generic paper receipt instead with only the total cost. I was never reimbursed by my insurance. This office referred me to a local business for a scan of my jaw which was also out of pocket. I was told to visit a surgeon back at Sutter for a procedure, so I called this office several times for records to present to my Sutter care team, and nothing was sent over. My referral was denied because of this and I was not able to get treatment. Dr. Mickiewicz is a great doctor and very knowledgeable about tmj issues, but you're not able to be seen in a timely manner and there is definitely something wrong with the way they handle payment and appointments. I visited this office as a patient for a year and a half, and never made it to the second phase of my treatment. I was told to just wear the splint and with time I would be able to start treatment (which included a small surgery and braces). After being given the run around, I demanded the next steps and finally they agreed, but my referral was understandably denied without any paperwork or records from this office for my insurance or primary care doctor. Dr.Mick is a an excellent sleep apnea provider but it's expensive. My health coverage does not cover since he does not take Medicare. When I first went to him last year, his website said he accepted Medicare and insurance. (I was referred by Sutter Health). When I went to the office they said they only billed Medicare directly and do not bill any other insurance, but would provide a claim form. I had to pay everything up front - now about $5000 I was not planning on. (Staff screwed up the claim form and had to send me a modified one later). Now many months later of filing claim forms that were denied I find out he does not take Medicare (not "Medicare certified"). They also don't take Delta Dental, because they are a medical provider. I recently went to see Dr. Timothy Mickiewicz . I have jaw pain and sinus issues that are chronic. I've had lifelong sinus issues and no doctor could figure out what was going on. I did give up at one point with my sinuses, but Dr Mickiewicz's office did not give up on me. I got a scan done and it showed what was going on. I'm glad for the diagnosis I can finally get the proper treatment from another specialist. The staff and manager are very nice and accommodating. They did not take my insurance but the out of pocket expenses were worth it for me personally . I have been a patient of Dr. Mickiewicz for a while now. And I have nothing but good things to say. I get seen for my TMJ and occasional Botox to help with the pain. Dr. Mickiewicz always makes sure that my concerns are addressed. He is a very kind person and I don't ever feel like he is in a rush to send me off. Most doctors, especially those who are specialists rush and don't really take care of the patient, but he definitely cares ! As far as it goes for the staff, they are all very friendly. I recently had an encounter with one of the newer front desk faces whose name was Sadia I believe. Sorry if I did mispell her name. She went above and beyond to make sure I was able to get my receipts for my insurance and was very welcoming as soon as I walked in. Seeing smiling faces such as hers always uplift the moods of people like me who are in so much pain. Despite the long wait time occasionally, I always have a great experience. What magic does a person have to have to make an appointment with this provider? I had a referral here to get an oral appliance for sleep apnea treatment. First, they didn't answer the phone when I called so I left messages three times. Never got a call back. I also tried contacting them through their website. No response. Finally I asked the referring doctor to call them and no one answered their call or returned their message. In the end I got a referral to a different office where I got an appointment immediately. This is a new experience for me as I have never had a health provider be as unavailable as this. read more

This review is long overdue. I first saw Dr. Mickiewicz in 2020 for TMJ. I stumbled upon a YouTube video where he was giving a lecture to other dental professionals and seemed very knowledgeable so I decided to see him. The cost for the consultation and treatment was very expensive but considering his expertise, I was willing to pay. First, when I arrived the front staff was unorganized and had no idea what they were doing. After a very long wait and confusion about my appointment someone finally managed to get me into a room. Before I met the doctor I was met with the dental assistant. The dental assistant didn't explain much and it seemed like this was routine for her. Which it probably was. She just looked at me as another poor case of TMJ and she was just tired of explaining the same thing to patients over and over again. I was hoping for some information and reassurance. But didn't get that. I was hopeful that Dr. Mick would be the one to provide a more positive experience once he showed up. But he was not any better. He seemed like he was in a rush and I was just another boring case of TMJ. He offered hardly any kind of information. I was very confused about what was happening to my jaw and what the treatments would be. I had to go out of my way to ask a lot of questions for him to give me any kind of answers. The interaction was very awkward and uncomfortable. When he finally did provide some information after prying it out of him, he did make a lot of sense and seemed very knowledgeable. Just like I witnessed in the YouTube videos. But just because he's knowledgeable and knows a lot about TMJ, doesn't mean the patient's coming in to see him do. He is very short and wants to just rush out of there. And he deflects by being a comedian, like the entire thing is a joke. When you come in with TMJ pain, you're not looking for comedy. You're looking for a competent doctor who provides relevant information and reassurance. This place wants you in and out. Even though I was very disappointed with my consultation, I was desperate for help so I ended up going back and I purchased a mouth orthotic for $1600. The orthotic helped but I was nowhere near being cured. And that was expected. After that, there was no communication about what would happen next. Nobody explained what the plan would be and nobody contacted me. I had to call them back numerous times to finally get an answer on what the next step would be. It was like I had to stalk them. At that point, I lost my faith in this place and decided to venture out elsewhere. I just most recently contacted them again in 2024 to see if they can make some adjustments to the mouth orthotic that I purchased from them because some of my teeth have changed and once again nobody has contacted me. I called them, I emailed them, left voicemails and nobody has returned my call. So, I assume not much has changed in 4 years. The doctor may be competent & knowledgeable about TMJ but the entire organization, including the doctor is unprofessional and unorganized. Even though the consultation and treatments were expensive, if the doctor and his facility was more organized and he treated his patients better, I would have no issues paying the high fees. But based on my experience, it is not worth it. There's no way that any patient deserves to be treated like they are nobody. Especially when they are already coming in depressed and maybe at their lowest point. The fact that there are very few professionals in the area that are knowledgeable about TMJ is probably what keeps Dr. Mick in business. And why desperate people like me even give this place a second chance. And maybe he takes advantage of that. This review is for potential patients because you all deserve to know. read more

We love Dr. Mickiewicz, but his front office staff are running a SCAM. The office will not bill insurance - everything is out of pocket. They charge more than $800 for an oral appliance. I think it was $1,200 for the first one. When my daughter's appliance broke in the front (with PROPER usage) in less than 12 WEEKS, the front office responded... "Great, that will be another $800." They don't return phone calls. They will not look at the appliance. It is assumed my daughter is abusing it. And if she is not abusing, well - sometimes breaks happen. There is NO warranty (even though we were told there was) and just pay again. Apparently, we are supposed to pay $800 every one to three months for a new appliance for her to receive treatment. I, myself, have an appliance from another doctor. Mine cost $300 and it has lasted three (3) years so far. We have already paid thousands of dollars to get to my daughter's diagnosis. It is incomprehensible that the office is charging so much money for DISPOSABLE solutions. They are rude, read from a script, and have an "oh well" attitude. When I asked to speak to the doctor - no, he is on medical leave, he has no coverage, and we don't know when he will be back. Dr. Mickiewicz is a talented, caring, and knowledgeable doctor. But be prepared to be treated poorly by the staff and to pay thousands of dollars with no end in sight for treatment to continue. read more

I have used Dr. Mick in the past (2013, in the previous Folsom Blvd. office) for an older sleep apnea appliance and due to that being a good overall experience, I wanted to revisit his newer practice, now on Alhambra Blvd. Because he is one of the best in the Western United states at what he does, he is in high demand, and making an initial appointment meant I would be investing my time for what turned out to be a 4 month wait. Upon arrival, some paperwork, which is to be expected - no big deal. Once I was called back to the consult/exam room, the staff immediately dove into the 3d scan of my teeth to ensure proper fitment. That process was completed in under 15 minutes great, we're on a roll. From there, I was left sitting in the chair for a solid hour before I saw the Dr. I took off of work to make this appointment and to waste 60 minutes of time, idle in the chair, for no reason is infuriating. Closing out my appointment, I was told to expect my mouth guard in approximately 6-8 weeks, as they are manufactured out of state. I called for a status update at 9 weeks, and was told there is no update available from the manufacturer. I find that, in this day and age of computers and automated scheduling, to have no timeline available from a contracted service provider to be unacceptable. There is a clear disconnect with, or lack of respect for patients' time. This second visit to the practice has been far less impressive than the first go-round back in 2013. read more

Dr. Mick is not only the best dentist I have ever seen but the best doctor as well! I have extremely bad TMJ that was caused by another dentist, and he was nothing but kind and empathetic to me. He gave me a frenectomy which instantly helped my posture by a lot. I honestly was skeptical when he told me that, but it was a night and day difference for me; a ton of other people noticed too. Also, botox and the splint have definitely helped a lot, though I have a very severe case so I still have a little ways to go. He has really gone the extra mile for me and is always incredibly helpful whenever I have questions. Dr. Mick even wrote me a very heartfelt email once telling me that I was going to get through this, which I honestly can't imagine any other doctor doing, ever. I have been a patient of Dr. Mickiewicz's for over 12 years. Dr. Mickiewicz is a brilliant doctor! I came to him with severe TMJ issues and he has helped me over the years with various treatment plans to help make my life of TMJ pain more bearable. However, his staff leave a lot to be desired! I tried all last year to get the medical documentation I needed to satisfy my HSA company that I use to pay my out of pocket medical expenses and never got the issue resolved. This resulted in my losing thousands of my own money I had put aside from my paycheck to cover such expenses, as those funds were not able to rollover and my medical spending card was frozen as a result of the documentation needed and not received. Now his staff tell me I cannot be seen and they just pass me off to another staff members voicemail never to have my calls returned so I can clear my outstanding bill. Meanwhile I suffer in pain unable to sleep and unable to function at work or even at home. My quality of life has diminished drastically would be an understatement. My first visit to Dr. Mickiewicz's office yesterday was eye-opening. The Office Manager/Receptionist Linda, is very welcoming and extremely efficient. She makes a person feel relaxed and is very adept with all facets of office policy. The office and exam rooms are very stylishly decorated and the infrastructure is beautifully designed. The Lead Medical Assistant, Julia, is the quintessential professional. From x-ray, to analysis, to explaining her detailed exam notes, she answered my many questions very patiently. Julia is very pleasant and very concerned with a patient's dental issues. Dr. Mickiewicz is not only an advocate for dental reform but because of his dual experience as a dentist and a TMD specialist, he affords the patient with the best of both worlds. He took all the time with me that I needed to understand his many findings as his exam was exceedingly thorough. His experience is evident and he is amazingly personable. read more

Had a Frenectomy through this doctor after going in for tinnitus issues and some jaw related pain. Of course, a cure for tinnitus isn't possible yet so I understand him wanting to try this technique that he thought might work, but in hindsight was just a way for him to get some more of his patients money. He suggested this procedure and said it would change my life almost instantly with an improved posture, no more sleep apnea, and that my tinnitus "might lessen". 3 weeks after the surgery and I've not noticed a single thing. It genuinely feels like I went to a snake oil salesmen and then he tried to get me to invest in a mouth guard that I've heard him suggest to every patient of his I've talked to at the small cost of $1,500 as another catch all type of measure. Not worth the hassle at all. If he recommends this I'd seriously consider getting another evaluation from someone else before even thinking of giving them your money. This is all on top of a $400 consultation fee just to get looked at with his fancy technology. read more

I received a referral from my primary care physician following trauma to my right lower molar which resulted in the removal of the tooth and treatment for aggressive grinding, constant clenching, and TMJ. I was promptly assessed, fitted with a dental appliance, and provided professional treatment with follow-up monitoring. I am always provided with courteous customer service, a detailed explanation of treatment costs, and specific information regarding diagnosis and aftercare. I signed up for Yelp just to leave this review. I want to thank your receptionist Giana? for saving our family $2,500. After almost 18-years of being a patient, they have lost our business. I get times are tough and good employees are hard to find, but their outright lies and allegations toward my daughter and husband today crossed a line. They claimed they "just walked out without paying." When I asked some questions about what we owed and if insurance would kick in they replied, "we already told "the dad" it didn't." When I replied, "well now you're talking to "the mom." They told me they didn't appreciate my attitude. I told then I was so tired of your office's unprofessionalism and I was so over no one ever answering the phone or getting back to patients and the constant canceling last minute. So you should thank Giana for losing you $2,500 and the future money our family would've spent with you guys. When I asked my husband how he just "walked out without paying" he said he had met with another (more professional) employee who told him they would create a pricing sheet and email us. That they did not have to pay today and they did not know yet if insurance would pay, that's why she would email a plan. The professional employee prepared him that at the most it would be $2,500. That's not anywhere near what Giana claimed. Clearly your front office and back office need some better communication. Not that I would want to talk to Giana every day either. Either way, within five minutes I had talked to a real receptionist (they actually answer the phone here) at another dentist and have been welcomed with open arms. I have been seeing Dr Mickiewicz for over two years and am very satisfied with his services. I have a sleep apnea problem and rarely was getting any good nights rest. My medical doctor suggested I wear a large breathing machine-forgot the name of it-so I went ahead and got one and tried it out and and nothing but problems trying to sleep with this large breathing machine strapped to my head. Then I saw Dr Mickiewicz and he has found the simplest and most affordable solution with my custom made mouthpiece that reshapes my jaw position just while I sleep! After I posted my negative review of Dr. Mickiewicz, he created a Yelp account, and contacted me through the website. First, he reviewed himself with a five start review. Then, he wrote me a message in which he purported his great skill in treating TMD, saying that he never has patients cry and: "i never insult anyone. please have the guts to respond or remove this slanderous post, tm" The message itself was not terrible, but coupled with the "compliment" that he gave me via the website, I found it to be a little creepy: "I know you must have a lot of other commitments and social activities that take away time from your Yelp reviews but I can't take it anymore...you have to write another review. It's like coffee in the morning and I've started getting headaches from your absence so please think of the little guys and prioritize!" Either I interpret that as multiple personalities, or it feels like a pretty sarcastic insult. I am sorry that you received a bad review, but following that up with unprofessional behavior is not something that will help your case. Try starting with treating your patients symptoms, and being nice to them. Listening, is an excellent quality to cultivate, and more useful than retaliation after the fact. read more

Dr. Mickiewicz and staff are great. The front office staff is very nice and helpful. the dental assistants/ hygienists are quick and efficient. I have TMJ issues thats seem to be near constant and many other MD's and dentist were unable to help relieve any of the pain. Dr. Mickiewicz was able to give me lidocaine injections and within minutes the pain was gone and stayed away all day. I was able to stretch the jaw muscles and help the pain stay away longer. The turedenta program he has is great it is like intensive physical therapy for TMJ issues. Very helpful mix of stretching and massage as well as cold laser and ultrasound. There are very few dentist that have a good understanding of TMJ disorders. I feel the Dr. Mickiewicz has a vast understanding of TMJ disorders and treatments, he was able to help me a lot. Unlike other reviewers, I have never had any issues with the front office . If they are unable to pick up the phone they call back within minutes.The office itself is nice and clean and not super bright and full of fluorescent lighting. You don't hear drills or other dental equipment while in the waiting room. I major pet peeve I have with other dental offices. read more

When I went to see Dr. Mickiewicz my jaw was locking up on me because my TMJ was so bad and my doctor didn't really know what to do for me. This man changed my life. I couldn't tolerate the C-PAP machine and have been seeing him under my medical insurance for a dental appliance to help me breathe at night.
