Sometimes I don't feel like becoming an expert…read more For two years running now, I've used the services of Gates Travel to find and purchase train tickets for travel throughout the United Kingdom. Not only are they prompt to respond via email but they know the ins and outs of train travel in a way that I don't and that I don't care to learn. One year ago I needed to get from a town in the North Cotswolds to a town in Wales and was growing uneasy with the process and baffled by my options. Gates Travel to the rescue. Not only could they tell me exactly which trains ran when but they could also tell me which were the best deals. They even went further when they realized that I was traveling in a party of two: they did the math and determined that the "two together" card was a worthwhile investment for my trips. I doubt I'd even know of the "two together" pass and benefits without it having been recommended by Gates Travel. All of my train tickets and the "two together" card have been secured and paid for online and Gates Travel sends me the physical documents via email and/or the postal service. With the help of Gates Travel I don't have to become an expert. I'm uncertain what other travel services Gates Travel provides as I've only used them to secure train tickets and advice. But based on this, I feel comfortable that they could help with any of your United Kingdom travel needs.

They have the concession for selling train tickets, and will try their hardest to find a convenient route at the right price. They also do all the other things from Cruises to Coach trips, via package holidays. I find the atmosphere there relaxing and also noticed a coffee machine in use for another customer. I highly recommend the staff, and shop.

First class service from Thomson on this visit. Myself and…read moreAdam Y had spent a couple of weeks deciding where we should go on holiday this August and couldn't come up with any ideas within budget so we wandered around Bolton one day and picked up some brochures from various travel agents. Eventually we resorted back to the internet and just doing any old search with the main search being 'Adult only hotel' - we hate children. We found a 5* hotel within (almost) price budget on the Thomson website, but decided to go in-store to see if they could better it. Of we popped down to the late opening Thomson shop on the Fort shopping park on a Wednesday evening and we were warmly greeted by a young chap who happened to be the manager. He asked us to sit down and explain what we wanted. He searched and unfortunately the price his system was giving him was £250 more than the website. Not to worry he said, he would price match for us and even waiver the admin fee because he could. How nice! However, he was going away in two days so if we wanted it we would need to book with him before Friday to get this deal. We couldn't decide there and then so had a wander around the car park and came to the conclusion that we would only spend the next two days looking on the internet more and only coming back here. So we walked back in and booked it. The young man was very friendly and gave us advise on the resort and travel tips without being patronising as some travel agents can be. I would definitely recommend using Thomson, this one in particular.

STA Travel is an especially popular place for students wishing to book a short trip,…read moreindividual/group holiday or flight as staff will provide excellent advice and tips for your trip such as the important things to be aware of. After all, staffs that work there have been through it all themselves and have had previous experience when it comes to travelling abroad. Booking your vacation or flight is simple and easy when done through this agency so there is no need to be afraid as when you leave, everything will be sorted hassle free. It is not only holidays they sell but language courses and volunteering projects abroad are also popular among students (even if you wish to travel off the beaten track). Choices are wide; more often than not, there will be a tour or a course that usually takes your fancy at affordable prices.

Still that…read morecrucial vowel is not in place, we have an 'A' instead and we should probably all be happy about this because STA offer great, once-in-a-lifetime getaways to the under-26s at student overdraft friendly prices. There are a number of tours offered in their brochures (I have come very close on a number of occasions to booking the Greek Island Hopper - reasonable at £775 for 10 days of mediterranean fun) but equally a few enquiries with one of the friendly staffers here can see you jetting off on your own tailor-made break. If you're after genuine seat-of-your-pants adventure it might be best to organise the whole thing yourself (an eccentric university friend of mine said that he found he was constricted a little by some of the scheduling on the tours - comparing his tour of Turkey with a SAGA coach trip with more booze) but if you're after having someone guide you through your options and work to get you the holiday with a difference then I have many more friends who very much recommend the services here.

The crummy old station was the kind of place that nostalgia is made of, in that you look back on it with fondness but if it were still around today you'd be hard pressed to find much redeemable about it. The slick new place will never be like that. Once you're there you want to get away as soon as possible and I don't care what anybody else says, you always feel like you're stood outside. Still, I suppose this aching desire to vacate means that vandals are unlikely to hang around too so it should be around for a long time.

The buses that run through here mainly serve the south of the city, but there are also a few services which go over the water and to the north of the city. The services which run from here are clearly displayed on noticeboards at each stop and it is easy to find out which bus to get from which stop, and if you have to go to another bus interchange to get the right bus. Each bus stop is clearly numbered and has a TV screen showing when the next bus is expected. There are usually attendants on duty who are happy to help you, but also ensure that kids do not hang around the bus station for the sake of it. There is also a travel centre open during the day where you can buy tickets, pick up timetables and get any information you need. The bus station is something of a wind tunnel, running down onto the waterfront. But each stop has an enclosed area where you can sit down and shelter from the cold.
