Spoke to a few nice girls who said I just missed the jeweler--I think he only works until 2 or 3 most days. I said I'd swing back a few days later. Came again three days later and he left early that day, so he wasn't there again. I left my watch and asked for a quote on replacing a fallen chrono hand. I also asked if they wouldn't mind getting me some size 11 claddagh rings to try. They were very nice and said they'd help. Didn't hear anything for four days, so I called back to get the quote. They said they called me (no missed calls on my mobile) and did the repair. I didn't mind since it was $25, but I asked for a quote--not the repair. I swung by two days later. The watch looked great--he did a solid job. But the rings weren't there. The girl behind the counter called the jeweler who informed me that it would be a special order and cost a little over $100. Obviously, the woman who said they'd get a few rings in for me to try was wrong, and probably never even asked him about getting some in to sample. I'm going to chalk this up to just a random comedy of errors. The work was good and the people seem nice.

That was Hamilton Jewelers, and to my surprise it was a Ms. Cassandra McBride who was their Rolex liaison, located in their main Store in Princeton, New Jersey. I followed up with a phone call to her , at the Princeton NJ location It was a very delightful and informative experience . Ms. McBride reviewed my information and explained to me , all the great details about the watch and it's current market availability , but assured that my interest in the watch would be noted and would keep me informed. I told her I frequently visit New Jersey several times a year. On, one trip I went to the store and personally introduced myself to her, had a very nice informative and friendly conversation with her, a very nice customer service experience . I would during the 18 months, text her to reaffirm my interest, and she would always reply quickly , reassuring me, and expressing hope for good news in the future. On December 3,2025, she texted me. And asked if I was still interested in the SS Submariner Date, ironically I was in New Jersey for a social event. I called her back , and reaffirmed my interest, and we laughed that I was in New Jersey. She said she hoped to have good news in the upcoming year. The next day she called and to my surprise said the watch was available. I was ecstatic, we made plans for me to come to their Hamilton Jewelers store in Princeton on the 5th of December. At that time she made me a wonderful presentation of the watch, explaining all the details. It was like Christmas with an old friend. My dealings with Ms. McBride and the Staff at Hamilton Jewelers, was a wonderful experience. The Extraordinary Customer Service, I experienced with Ms. McBride and Hamilton Jewelers, is very rare these days, and I will not forget it.

I recognize that demand exceeds supply, but using vague spending thresholds instead of a clear, equitable allocation process creates a poor customer experience. A family business. Real people. The hours are short, Friday through Sunday only, but maybe that is good. Maybe it keeps the place human. I brought in my mother's watch. Not a treasure by market standards, but worth more than Fort Knox to her because a friend gave it to her when she retired. Steve met me at the counter. He held the watch the way a priest holds a chalice and treated it as though it were a Patek Philippe. In five minutes he replaced the battery, polished away years of tarnish, and handed it back to me. It looked reborn. The bill was six dollars. Less than a cheeseburger. Meanwhile, I looked in the cases. Not just the cookie cutter trinkets that line the malls, but old pieces with personality, antiques, oddities, jewelry with ghosts in them. This is a store where people still know your name, and you know theirs. That used to be normal in America. Now it feels like a miracle. Support it. Places like this are how civilization hangs on.

Marlene took what was once a blah piece of jewelry and turned it into the most extraordinary ring I've ever owned. I was pleasantly surprised with the price and blown away with the quality of work. I was looking for a gift for a friend and I told her I don't want to spend more than $50. She showed me several pieces that were exactly $50 and a few that were $60 to $65. That's exactly what she should have done! That's what you would do too, right, as you know these self-imposed price caps are somewhat arbitrary? I bought a nifty bracelet with an adjustable chain thingy for just over $60. She wrapped it beautifully in a box with a fancy bow. Marlene of Marlowe's is cool, she's old school and no nonsense and her look is unique and it's so un-Princeton, where everyone looks perfect and constrained and conformist. It took over 3 weeks to complete and when I picked it up you could easily see the lines from the piece he inserted. He took no time to weld it properly. Less than 6 months later the piece from the re-sizing just fell out! I took it back and they refused to refund me. The owner SCREAMED at me and slammed his hands on the counter saying it happens and he doesn't know what I expect and when I asked when he could have it fixed by he loudly screamed "whenever I get to it". Needless to say I left! They do not care about their customers and they only care about making a dollar. Do not waste your money!!! They shouldn't be in business!
