A bit small really, but very educational and informative, as well as putting a great emphesis on…read moreconservation. They also have some of the local marine life too, being that Southend is a coastal town, which really does touch home for me. Although not containing much of the magic as when I went here when I was young, I do still admire the place, as they always make sure it's clean and tidy, and that the animals are well kept, looked after, and maintained. The staff have some knowledge about the marine life kept, but there are place cards by the aquariums to tell you more. The aquarium also contains a fairly decent sized restaurant/eating area, but charging for a play area for the younger kids so you can look round the aquarium, or eat in peace is a bit of a low-blow, considering you've already paid to get in and possibly for on-site parking too. Saying that, it's definatly a great family time out, and the kids will love getting up-close to the animals, (sometimes being able to touch them too, but best ask for permission first).

Unfortunately I don't agree with the other comment for this site maybe I caught them on an off day…read more It was £6.50 each and you can walk round and see everything within about 30mins. And that really is taking it slow. The inside was damn and condensation was everywhere. There was a talk on the Star Fish which left a lot to be desired, it was over exagerated and a lot of contradictions were made by the man. On the up hand for kids it has a play den but compared to other aquariums this was over full and not in good condition.

I only took my kids to kids kingdom a few times, i personally dont like it there but the kids seem…read moreto love it. The staff are all very young, and the times i have been i have seen the staff on top of jelly mountain literally throwing children down, which in my opinion although it is a soft play area is still dangerous. You find especially with those that take older children there that the children are often left to be supervised by the staff while the parents sit in the 'dining area' though i am using that term losely. The older kids like to indulge in a fair amount of rough play and the last time i went i actually saw two children get that badly injured that the staff had to call an ambulance. The older kids also tend to go into the toddlers section making it dangerous for the toddlers that are playing in there even if they are being supervised by parents. The whole place could do with a bloody good clean and some new equipment as it is all quite outdated and broken. The food in their cafe is expensive even the drinks ~ which obviously is vital for children that are running around, i would suggest if you are going to go then you take your own drinks with you. Entry for children as i recall is quite expensive also, and if you dont live near it, it is actually quite difficult to get to being set where it is.

This soft play area is a bit dated and needs a good clean…read more There is a section for younger children with climing steps, slides, a ball pit and blocks, as well as jelly mountain for older kids, which is a mountain surrounded by a ball pit. My kids always have a good time here, but they are quite young and I often find that older kids come into the toddler's section. The older kids can be really boisterous, which is fine as this is the sort of place for them to let off some steam, but not when there are small tots wandering around. I haven't been for a few months because last time we were there I found that a lot of the equipment needed updating - the building blocks were coming apart at the seams and the foam stuffing was hanging out in a number of places. It also needed a really good clean. There are much better soft play venues a short drive from Southend.

It's got everything you would expect of a soft play area - huge slides, a rope swing, climbing wall, ball pit all on different levels. The equipment, seating areas and snack bar are exceedingly clean and well maintained. They have a lot of seating for parents - I particularly like the comfy sofas! - and a snack bar selling chocolate bars, drinks, etc but they also do really nice lunches at reasonable prices - home-made soups, pies, and a selection of sandwiches and salads. This is an equally great venue for a few hours to let the kids run around like crazy things or a birthday party.

In my opinion this is the best soft play / adventure play place in the area. The main play area is…read morechallenging enough for children to want to run about in for several hours, but accessible to 3 yr olds during the school week. The under 4s area is the best I have seen - again providing challenge along with fun activities e.g. ball pool, little tikes cars, baby walkers. Monkey Bizzness is well designed so that parents can sit at tables and watch their children. Although the table area is crowded it means there is always somewhere to sit, even at busy times. There is an extensive menu offered which had healthy and tasty food for adults and children as well as the usual fishfingers and chips etc. It is also very reasonably priced. At peak times sessions are limited to 2 hours but this tends to be on rainy bank holidays rather than a general rule.
