Rydawell Builds - Before plumbing fix - WTF?

Rydawell Builds

Fremont, Ballard

The man knows his way around a slab of wood. Perhaps he was a beaver or a woodpecker in a past…read morelife. We approached Ryan to make a walnut trestle table for our dining room, and it is freaking gorgeous. He was professional, collaborative with regards to design, and was able to stick to a reasonable schedule despite the madness of a global pandemic. I can't wait to watch our daughter slowly destroy it over the next 20 years. All hail the Prince of Planing! The sultan of Sanding! The Justiciar or Joinery!

Not only did the build out take forever (7 months), but since picking up my van on my first/second use, I have had roof leaks because they didn't install the "C" gaskets right for the AC unit, I experienced multiple leaks in the pressurized plumbing system (see pictures below) which caused wood damage to the cabinetry due to poor PEX seals, I still have no relief from the misbehaving (and Rydawell recommended) Ecoflow electrical system, I discovered they failed to insulate the sliding door, they actually plumbed the gray water lines into the BOTTOM of the gray water tank using the same penetration point as the drain (this caused water to back up into the shower pan when using the sinks (not to mention it would fail completely in freezing weather) and I discovered that the Rixen heating system was installed against manufacturer recommendations (to name just some of the issues). This has caused me thousands of dollars to get repaired (so far) at another (competent) van builder. While his hourly rate may seem cheaper, it takes him much longer to accomplish work items. As an example, his quote to install a 2nd battery (which he was supposed to have left room for) was twice as long as I was able to get it done elsewhere by professional van builders.

Scott fixed a damaged, wooden bed frame for us. He is a joy to work with -- responsive,…read moreprofessional, thoughtful and accommodating. Not only did Scott patiently reply to all of my questions and emails, but he came to the house himself to inspect the damage -- and disassemble/reassemble the bed. He was communicative through the entire process, which was quick, and delivered high quality work. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Scott's services to anyone (everyone!) and will surely work with him again. Thank you!

Scott Malatesta may be a competent woodworker, but he is not a trustworthy or responsible…read morebusinessman. I inherited a beautiful mid-century modern dining set with table, chairs, and buffet. He refinished the table and chairs a few years ago, and this year (2022) I asked him to refinish the buffet. I'm the third generation to enjoy this set, and I was hoping to leave it to my heirs--but it's not a set anymore! The buffet is MUCH darker than the table, and Scott has not taken responsibility. He has blamed the wood (they are made from the same wood) and bleaching from the sun (the table isn't in the sun), and his constant refrain is "I used the same stain." He should have noticed as he was working that the results were much darker than the original or at least that the exterior was much darker than the interior. Scott eventually said that he would have to strip it back down and redo it. I agreed and offered to send a table leaf for reference, but now he's not even responding to email. I'm afraid my next step is small claims court.
