Review for the Woodland Park Cottages…read more PROS: - Beautiful scenery! - All kinds of wildlife in the area - Very quiet place to stay. Makes you feel like you're not in CA. - Pet friendly! - Close to downtown Idyllwild. - Cabins are comfortable and nestled in the woods. - Our cabin had a nice little patio deck with a table and chairs. - Cable television that also includes the Dodgers channel! - Full kitchen and bath. - The cabin also has air conditioning(not the best though). - This location has a pool, picnic area, BBQs, and even a ping pong table. - The cabin also felt pretty clean... for the most part. - The rates and prices are great! CONS: - The A/C unit (not central air) was kind of weak during the day when it got really hot. - The lounge chairs inside the cabin were kind of grody, especially the arm rests... - WIFI onsite, but it's really slow. PRO-TIP: - Just FYI, the kitchen sink DOES NOT have a garbage disposal. - Also, expect random thunderstorms during the summer. It was actually pretty cool to see and experience out in the mountains. - If you have VERIZON, the signal in certain parts of the complex is almost non existent.

The cabins are in the middle of beautiful, tall trees, a mini park, and pathways with wild flowers (summer). There's a flurry of activity from squirrels, chipmunks, bluejays, and woodpeckers. The family that owns it (Collin, Denise and Matt), is very friendly and accommodating. Downtown Idyllwild is walking distance from the cabins - slightly over a mile. If you like alpine settings, this is the right place. The cabins are duplexes with a large side and a smaller side. I take the large side as I prefer the large deck to enjoy a cup of coffee, read a book, take photos, watch the wildlife, or just enjoy the scenery. This setting renews my soul.

This is a really cute dog-friendly spot for a weekend getaway in the mountains. It is old and…read morerustic and walking distance to the town center. Located on South Circle Drive, there is no sidewalk or side pavement, and the road is curvy as you enter Highway 243 to go into town. Managed by Vacasa Rentals, we received several confirmation emails after booking the cottage, including one closer to the trip date that listed items available for our use in the cottage. I also really appreciated that while standard check-in time was 4pm, we received an email 24 hours prior to our trip date that notified us we could check in early at 11am. That made a huge difference to us in terms of planning and being able to get a head start on traffic. It's easy to miss on South Circle Drive, but the property has a horseshoe shaped driveway. With a dark green exterior, they allow access via a key in a lockbox. We liked this because it saves time from having to check in with management or a person who at other places, may or may not be present when you drive in. They provided linens, towels, basic kitchen tools and supplies, including tiny dishwashing liquid bottles. The interior is really cute with old lantern decor, and it has a fireplace, though we obviously did not need one in September. There is one bed and a couch, and it has a nice deck with a hot tub, which is really nice to use after a long hike at the nearby Humber Park. The cottage is a lower level ceiling so if you are over six feet like my dude, you will want to take care in some parts of the kitchen and especially the bathroom. The reason why I give it 3 Stars is that the shower area is not efficient, very small, and the shower head kept falling off, hitting me in the head more than once while I was shampooing my hair. It is very disconcerting to be wet, eyes closed due to shampoo rinse, and then being hit with an object on your head that swings around and flies water everywhere. I texted me friend during my vacation to tell her that the shower is better than some parts of Africa that I have traveled to, but not by much :) Also we were excited to use the old school coffee maker, but there were issues with the filter and water leakage. My dude tried to use it three times, and then we gave up and got coffees to go at the Mile High Cafe down the street (over-priced and sub par for $5 each cup), while the second time we made it to Higher Grounds Coffee in town center where for $17-$18, they give you a box of coffee and provide cream and sugar with cups to go. Overall, I think it is a nice and decent place to stay for a short term rental, but I would not want to be in the cabin for a week, due to it being pretty old and lacking in certain amenities. The back of the house opens up to a wooded area, and it is a great spot for the dogs to take care of their business in the morning and parts of the day. While using the hot tub on the second day, we noticed that there was still blue floating chlorine object in the water. My dude called the Vacasa agency because we were not sure if it was during a cleaning cycle and if we could use it. Thankfully someone answered and said it was part of an automatic 12 hour self-cleaning feature but okay to use. There is a grill out front with a Propane Tank, and it was awesome to grill food for both nights, in addition to walking to town and trying the local wineries and brew pub. My dude was in charge of the grill and said the heat was weak, so it affected cooking times and should probably be replaced with a more modern one, especially if the owners want to compete with surrounding properties. I recommend also bringing your own cooking oil and spices as they won't have that available to help save you a trip from running to the store, especially if you live within a 1-2 hour distance and can drive up with some of your own food and goods. Rather than one big fridge, it has two mini fridges. The skillets and pans have seen better days, so if you are picky about those things, bring a large skillet from home if you are motivated to make a morning scramble. We were happy to see people visiting the area after the recent fire, and it is important to revitalize the local economy.

Unfortunately, it ultimately ends with you having dispute charges with your credit card company even after you have followed all the rules New Spirt Vacation Homes sets outside of the Vrbo platform. Here it is - all spelled out chronologically and can be backed by 40+ messages back and forth with BOTH Niki and Monica, who appear to be the same person, at least in the way they message customers 8/28/2025 $653.35 paid in full for reservation for 3.23.26 - 3.26.26 12/11/2025 New Spirt Vacation Homes removed listing from Vrbo and directed me to view all details on their own website, not via Vrbo which made me very uneasy, so I canceled my reservation per Vrbo's timely allowances. Same day I am messaged by Nikki telling me to fill out an additional refund form outside of Vrbo and that they will take no less than 30 days to complete the refund request per their right with the CA SB 644 (California Senate Bill 644 )which legally allows them to do so. 12/19/2025 The additional email form not received via email from this company. I messaged to inquire and was basically scolded by Nikki and asked why I 'did not advise them earlier that they did not send the form?' Well, because it was not my responsibility to send it! 1/23/2026 More than 30 days past, still no refund. I messaged New Spirit Vacation homes to inquire. I was told by Nikki that "half our accounting dept. is out sick, and I will personally process the refund today." 1/24/2026 Nikki messages me now stating that "Our merchant services account does not allow us to process a refund with charges that are ran over 180 days prior to request so now we need to mail you a check." Keep in mind that the date of purchase was 8/28/2025 and the date I requested a refund was 12/11/2025. Simple math shows this is a lie, as 180 days after purchase date would have been 2/24/2026! 1/24/2026 Messaged a second time by Monica stating that she is "forwarding this request for a check refund to be issued by the CEO and mailed to you today." 1/30/2026 No check received. I message again, Niki this time lies to me stating that "I work night shift, but the check was cut and mailed out yesterday so it should arrive shortly." 2/4/2026 No check received, asked status, no response 2/5/2026 Messaged them a second time, said I will be starting a dispute with my credit card company. 2/6/2026 Next day Niki responded, "I personally tried to run your card (last lie was she mailed refund SAME DAY on 1/30/2026) and it would not allow, I will need to reach out to see what is going on." ******************* THAT WAS THE LAST MESSAGE FROM NEW SPIRT VACATION HOMES, AFTER THAT I INITIATED A DISPUTE WITH MY CREDIT CARD COMPANY THAT WAS NOT RESOLVED UNTIL THE END OF MARCH 2026 ************* So why am I siting here wasting my 30-minute lunch break typing a novel? Well, remember that neat little California Senate Bill 644 (SB 644) mentioned earlier by Nikki as the reason for not refunding anyone before 30 days; basically 'because they can'? Guess what, it protects us too as consumers from unethical companies like New Spirt Vacation homes that regularly practice cash grabbing, lies, unnecessary delays and harassment with their refund process in hopes you give up and do not fight. I am not the one who gives up easily, so I have officially filled a consumer complaint with the State of California Department of Justice Consumer Complaint Office of the Attorney General I HIGHLY recommend you do so as well if they are taking longer than 30 days to issue your refund which is in a direct violation of the CA SB 644 and punishable with up to $10,000.00 fine. We went with my girlfriend, her sisters, and a couple of friends, expecting a relaxing stay. Instead, we were kicked out the very next day over alleged noise complaints that didn't reflect what was actually happening we were being respectful and not causing any issues. What really crossed the line was that someone entered the property without even knocking first. That felt like a complete invasion of privacy and made us very uncomfortable. On top of that, the way everything was handled was extremely unprofessional. The staff/host came off as rude and dismissive, with no effort to communicate or resolve things properly. Overall, this experience ruined our trip. I would not recommend staying with them if you expect basic respect, privacy, and professionalism.
